2021 Jaguar E-PACE | Is This Your Pace or Should You 'F' It?

  • Did you know that you can buy a brand new Jaguar SUV for as little as $42,000? I bet you didn’t. It’s this one here…the E-PACE. Based on its miniscule sales it’s been largely ignored with shoppers choosing the bigger and much more expensive F-PACE at a ratio of nearly 4 to 1. But it’s been refreshed this year and looks especially sharp as this Caldera Red E-PACE 300 Sport.

Jag never markets this at all but it really is a great alternative to an X3 (but not the X3M). I was going to pick one of these up for my daughter when she turns 16 but due to the pandemic the prices of the 2018s have gone from about $30K to around $40K. That is almost as much as a new one!! The "E" in "E-Pace" is meant to link this to the Jaguar E-Type; this is meant to be an SUV "sports car" (if there can be such a thing). Mostly marketing but the reality is this handles as well as an X3 or Stelvio; and better than anything in its class from the US or Asia. These are hidden gems, imho.

I believe many of these automakers are making a big, short-sighted mistake in focusing solely on EV technology. They will lose their retail butts by going in this direction.

Jag will be committing corporate suicide by going all electric. But this car is so overpriced for what it is.

It's nice enough but if I had the $ for a Jag I'd have to go with the F-Type S , with 575 hp supercharged V8, awd, in desire deep red. Oh yeah!

no way you just compared the highest end jag to the lowest end jag. but I would have to agree, obviously

You the F-Type R (latest variants).
      The S comes with a V6 engine

This review is a bit misleading. I had an E-Pace loaner recently (just the regular, non-300 Sport) and the ride and handling balance was excellent. Even the straight line performance wasn't bad. The reviewer did not mention that part of the stiff ride in this one is undoubtedly due to the optional (and ugly black) 21" wheels with the ultra-low profile tires. Too much wheel for this size SUV, IMO.
This one is also a bit weirdly optioned - for example, adaptive dynamics (expensive unnecessary overkill) but no panoramic sunroof (which many people want). So this tester had expensive options that have as much negative impact as positive, and which run the price up unduly. You can configure one for much less money and have everything most people would want, thus addressing some of the reviewer's price objections and even some negatives mentioned.

Well, wait a minute. You start off with the fact that yours wasn't a 300 Sport. The 21s are part of that equation. Wheels look great, BTW.

    Savagegeese LOVES the E-Pace.
Personally I think it looks better than the larger F-Pace.

I think another issue is that Jaguar’s electric EV is named the I-PACE, not E-PACE.

Pretty sure you won't find one in stock at the base model price.

    For $60k+, I’d go GV70 3.5t all day long

    That's not one of them.

Yes. I also believe Mazda has the most beautiful red out there, but that is only my personal opinion

Dear God, help me! I can’t explain this anymore 🤦🏼‍♂️. WE DON’T PRONOUNCE IT THAT WAY. THE JAGUAR USA MEDIA RELATIONS TEAM DOESN’T EVEN PRONOUNCE IT THAT WAY.

It doesn't say Jaguar and it's just not compelling. I expect it to be dropped soon. Jaguar is just in shambles, dead weight around the neck of Land Rover now. Their supposed 2025 rebirth can't come soon enough.

      @Starbucksguitar That’s too bad. A Jaguar that isn’t luxurious.
