    I was in Atlanta back in the 80's for about a year and a half. Have a lot of memories, some good some bad. It was 12 years after MLK's death and I had the pleasure of marching with Mrs King and a whole crowd of my beautiful brothers and sisters singing, "We shall Overcome"! Ironic how that song still resonate across the world!

    Im from Los Angeles and visited atl 4x this year so far. 1st thing driving around i realized it has alot black culture and history. Murals of black people on the walls of buildings, black colleges around downtown. There isnt much diversity in people which reflect the resturants. Traffic is bad, alot of forest n open space. Has a small town feel, not as big as people portray it on tv. Its very humid during the summer. However, the people are friendly and welcoming. Has a community feeling where one is willing to help the next. I love it

    Atlanta is a city in flux. New young money is coming in from the outside and changing neighborhoods. I suspect that within the next 10 years, a lot of these old hoods will transform into something unrecognizable. Best part of Atlanta is the low crime rate. You'll never hear about mass shootouts in the ATL. Great town with nice people. Very diverse.

    Y'know Ol' boy is right. Being from the hood, you don't know you in the hood. Coming from being raise in Goulding "on the West Side of Pensacola" ever since i was a youngen, i always thought seeing all the negativity in the area was a normal part of life. But i didnt realize the harsh reality behind all that i've seen and done was nothing but a short entrance to the grave. Dang, life sure has its ways.

    Just came across this video, Checking the content of threads pertaining to Atlanta. Breif but good video, most of Atlanta has been watered down, with the population growth exploding since, 1996, After then Mayor Bill Campbell declared Atlanta an " International City", During the time the Olympics were on the way. The hoods were being torn down to make way for financially stable people to "improve" the look of the city, with that, Atlanta started slowly loosing that authentic grit it once had. People truly from their knows it, The Mayor basically gentrified the metro area, Catering to a more desirable people to fill in what wasn't desired. I'm from the westside, My Grandmother lived next door to Wayne Williams, He went High School with one of my uncles. I was told he did not commit those heinous crimes, It was all set up. That situation goes real deep. You are correct, During that time, People in the neighborhood watched out for one another, their were watch signs in the areas that posed a lot of crime, which seem to be everywhere on the west side. But Atlanta now, is not a true Atlanta, An authentic Atlanta, Because of the growth, it brought more crime in, & less caring people. But if you are truly from Atlanta, you can tell whose from the eastside, westside, north & south side. Most of the soul of Atlanta has either left, died out or sold out. I miss the old school restaurants, like the one that was family owned across the street from hightower station😋., Only an old school head would know what I'm talking about, But it's always good to see videos like this, Oh yeah, The Underground isn't the same either, The reputation it had after it was done over, is basically ran down, or it's just me. Anyways, This is a some what a quick " hood recap ", ( I mean that in a good way).

      We as black people absolutely have to take a stand and stop letting white people invade our neighborhoods and take over and white wash out the culture. Atlanta is one of the few cities where Educated Black people with money, and Black entrepreneurs can stop the invasions, unlike other cities where white people basically gentrify an area, and the Blacks are too poor to do anything about it. Atlanta is starting to feel really watered down, but it's not too late to stop it. Right now it's kind re-adjusting to the changes.

    • @TheDaddynate
      @TheDaddynate 6 лет назад

      Our money doesn't match that of white folks even at the top. Best thing to do when you know your area is going to be gentrified is to hold onto your property until it booms and generate new wealth from it to pass to your kids and that's the way to really catch up.

    you can't mention Atlanta and not mention SUMMERHILL bankhead maybe more popular do to the fact most of the rappers come from that area and who not from Atlanta that's all they know so when people visit if they are a hood dweller 1st place they ask about is bankhead or the Lenox but all real atliens know the heart of Atlanta is that southern downtown wrap around from 4th ward Thomasville SUMMERHILL MECHANICSVILLE WEST END to THE BLUFF Outside of that next you got The WESTSIDE THE BLUFF to bankhead or The SWAT WEST END to CAMPBELTON RD then it's EAST SIDE Moreland ave to BOULDERCREST. Yeah. Anywhere in Atlanta. I don't know if you're from there or even from the south, Some people perceive Atlanta as a " Country Town", compared to larger cities, But , There's country everywhere, Good & bad everywhere, As far as " Bankhead", The street itself isn't all Bankhead, That's going into the Bluff, which is " Bankhead", You don't know what kind of situation you can find yourself in, You don't have to have heat, but it's safer & smarter to do so, Legally.

    Glad I did not grow up in the slums, "Hood", Shit Hole, etc. Thanks to my parents and what they taught us to make us WHO WE ARE, my kids avoided growing up in a shyt environment like this also.No excuses, do your job, raise those kids they way they should be raised which will reduce the disgrace that is being presented in this video.

    So instead of being proud of being from the hood...go in that hood and change it. Channge the crime, fix it up, teach your men to stop destroying their neighborhoods, stay with their spouses and raise their children. Make an honest living and stop hiding behind the race card. -- a strong, black woman.

      Wow, you must really hate the northern cities. What does it do for you to live under more billionaires there as opposed to any other city? Do they share the microsoft money with the greater population? Or do they just raise property values to crazy highs and make it to where a family making 100k per year is considered poverty?

    But it's so dangerous. You guys brag about how the killings are cool and how it made you a better person. White people are scared of the blacks because of the culture. Look how insanely dangerous it is and you guys like it. Whites want no part of any one thing you have to offer. Way to easy to get killed.
