I've been skating on and off for nearly 13 years now but I'm hoping these lessons help. I may be a Ducks fan but I loved Ehrhoff's work for the Sharks

Thanks for this video, it helped me. The one thing that I realized when stopping is to keep the knee bent, get your hips rotated, and to absorb the stop in your hip and upper leg muscles. Getting into a position where you can feel your upper laces on your shin so you know you're ready, and then absorbing is where it's at.

I've been practicing for 3 weeks straight, I can stride well, cross over, and pizza.. but for the life of me, I can't hockey stop or skate backwards.

I feel this comment. I have been doing it a little longer than you and still can’t hockey stop either, I kind of can turning right but not left.

    Nice video.
I felt comfortable with my left foot's outside edge, but my right food's inside edge was always stuck on the ice. I tried to shave the ice with inside edge while standing. This works perfectly. However when I turn left while moving and tried to stop, my inside edge was stuck. How can I overcome this? TY.

often times balance and weight distribution plays a signifcant role when stopping. The weight on each skate should be evenly distributed, as the objective after you stop is to start again where you will need to push off with your legs.
Obviously practising getting your skate blades on the correct edges takes time and confidence, especially when working on your weaker side. Ideally wear your full equipment or at a minimum a helmet, elbow and shin pads as well as gloves to break the fall somewhat.

      @@owayocustomsports Big thanks again!
Finally, I stopped with two feet yesterday! But I probably put 70% weight to right foot inside edge and 30% to left foot outside edge, not so evenly like 50:50. Still need practice.
I noticed while you stop, you lift your left foot up, then put down to shave the ice. But I directly rotate it from sliding to shaving. Am I correct? Is lifting gives the stop more power?

He's tips were very informative. i always tell others when stopping you have to try and bring a good majority of your weight up into your core right as you come into turning the skates to stop. Take as much weight off your skates but still be in control and anticipating what comes next.

@@owayocustomsports well you're skipping the part where they need to feel the edges scraping before going into the stop otherwise they'll fall alot - this from someone who took awhile to learn
