I love getting experience and being welcomed into these amazing traditions!!! I’m truly blessed to have such amazing friends and family!!! Thank you for watching!!! Help me share these traditions!!! I appreciate you!!!
Last day in Hilo doing some souvenir shopping and stumbled on a mom and daughter combo with a small roadside stand. Two cardboard signs that read “pork lau lau “ just the name lau lau peeked my interest and I let my curiosity take over. We left there with 6. Between my brother and I, two made it back to the hotel room lol. The flavor was mild earthy and a tad but sweet and the pork.. my mouth is watering as I type this. Let’s just say you didn’t need teeth to enjoy that meat.
@rubenjaramillo2666 ...If you can't find ti leaves on the mainland, some cooks substitute pandan leaves. Think it imparts more smoky flavor to the meat. And, if you have big enough Asian market in the area, ask for elephant ears or dasheen leaves, if you don't see luau leaf on the continent

Ironically, some of the most well known "Haawaiian foods" are not from Hawaii. Lau Lau often contains salmon, which is from the West Coast, as is Lomi Lomi Salmon. Pipikaula is smoked beef, also non-native to HI. Haupia is coconut gel, also non native. Chicken Long Rice is Asian Glass Noodles. A typical plate is served with rice, from the far east!
Your info is all wrong. laulau never has salmon (butterfish) and is definitely a Polynesian dish…this style is Hawaiian that he made. Other Polynesians make palusami or lupulu. Research the rest of the stuff you wrote too.

Black belt tip.. add 4-5 pennies to the water and it’ll rattle as long as it’s boiling. Last thing you want is to run out of water!
@@hawaiianboy2003 Nice!!! Thanks for sharing!!! That’s a great tip!!!
you can substitute chicken in as well. Or go samoan with some onion, canned or whole pieces of cornbeef and some coconut milk this is called palusami
Awesome thank you for sharing!!! I appreciate you!!!
I believe it’s Tongan fish called Lupulu. Remove the corned beef and it a Samoandish call Palusami.
