👍😁 hi from southern New Zealand 👋😃 great replacement deck.
The spacers were the exact right choice. It's the same reason attaching the rim joist of a deck directly to a house is no longer considered best practice in North America. Well done, sir.
Great work! It looks really nice and I can tell it will be more durable and last longer. I hope the client appreciates all the extra effort you guys put into ensuring a quality job. Looking forward to seeing more videos!
It is nice you have started to put in English subtitles loved watching you before but it was frustrating not being able to translate into English. Now can start watching you both again. 👍😀😀😀
Awesome.. You dont leave the rotten wood as it is.. You've done a great job. With that makita tools its a great work you've done.. Thanks to your tools and your skills.. Greetings from philippines.. I love your work.. 安全を保つ
The wood you used for the trim pieces is gorgeous. Even the wood used for the support beams looks great. Is that typical construction grade or is it a special order?
Greetings from the USA ! I am a carpenter and you did a very professional job given all the budget constraints you had to work with. I would have done it the same way except we use a product called G-Tape on top of the ledger boards which keeps them waterproof? However you simply had a tight budget & could not do that. I really like that wood !
Thank you! The client has been a regular, so while we had our own ideas, it's important to consider their lifestyle as well. As carpenters, we often have to balance what we want to do with what's best for the client, and that can be a bit of a conflict at times.
Hi! It looks like you are a good carpenter with many respect for your job and I have a question for You. Why are you still using the Phillips screw head instead for hex drive for wood ? I am not professional wood worker I am a tool maker but I did a lot of renovations in my own house and I think that hex drive head screws are much easier to use and handle.Thank You for a good video 😊.
You're absolutely right. Hex and square drive deck screws are definitely better than Phillips bits. While I prefer using those in Japan as well, for this particular project, I used stainless screws that I had in stock.
before mounting first support beam i think additional isolation band (maybe bitumen better then acryl based) should be glued to cover gap between construction and metal ebb
well done Kazu. I have a question, the previous deck was made from wood, and it was rotten hence they wanted to replace it (the quick fix :D) but you replace it with wood material (again). will it need to be replaced again later (how many year it will last before it going to be replaced?) I am from a rainy country, so we have wood plastic composite (WPC) here to avoid termite and rotten because of rain. so maybe is there a thing as "WPC" in Japan? or any such material that can stand termite and rains
We are using thick Hinoki wood because the deck is covered by a roof, and I believe with proper painting, it will last for about 15 years. In Japan, we do use resin-based artificial wood, but it's quite expensive, and it gets too hot to walk on when exposed to direct sunlight. For decking, we also sometimes use expensive woods like Ipe or Ulin.
i went to a 100 year old cabin on bainbridge island to replace a rotted sill plate . Two months later and over $40,000 in materials and labor we finished . once the sill was pulled we discovered that the entire building had been eaten by ants . 😱
I'm bothered by the gap between the rail and the balcony. It appears that the balcony has pulled away from rail. This would seem to indicate the balcony is on a path to failure. I hope someone addresses that problem.
You've observed it well. I believe the railing is also at its limit. We were asked to repair it, but due to budget constraints, we couldn't proceed with the full fix. Actually, it briefly appears at the end of the video, but we have applied waterproofing treatment to the gap since rainwater was entering. It’s not a complete solution, though.
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 you made it all look so simple but could see it was far from easy .... so jealous of the quality of wood in Japan 👍😊

bravo
Great job. What part of Japan are you in
Hello from Canada! I use only makita cordless tools and they're all blue or black. Is your yellow impact driver a special edition?
wood in contact with metal outdoor always get wet, it must be impregnated or partly covered with bitumen like material between wood an metal

@@KazuHouseRenovation I see,
thanks for answering Kazu,
A good video! It can also be a good idea to put water proof tape on top of the Joists!
As a carpenter I would have thought you would be better using reassure treated timber instead of just rolling on some preservative.

Это перезалив видео? Оно же уже было.
It's a reupload for English speaking audience. The Japanese version was uploaded many months ago on his other RUclips channel.
Looks bad scary
Ich bin kein Fan von holzalternativen. Aber da wird man mit dem Naturbaustoff holz nicht glücklich!👎🇩🇪
a lot of trust in the hovering hand rail. greatings from belgium. use special tapes work good to keep the wood dry
