Sorry...but, in 1990, Mitch was getting friendly with Janie Hendrix, who was ab out to sponsor him as being a part of a caravan of musicians, paying tribute to Jimi. He needed the work..so, he definitely was being coy, and not telling the full story about Jimi's drug use and sex life...Since 1990, many books, some very good, have provided more info on Jimi, and even on Mitch. Mitchell, by the way, was a heroin addict for much of the later 70s and into the 80s. Mitch was always a bit of a prig, when it came answering questions.

A One very good reason for a 'lackluster' performance at Isle of Wight was, as the host remembered, "it was cold", add dampness on top of that and it makes for a difficult playing experience on a stringed instrument, I've played outdoors, in summer, and my left hand would stick to the back of the neck, luckily it was a private party and I asked for some cornstarch to apply to my hand periodically during the gig.

We love you Mitch! Happy that you won the 'coin toss'! Little story. After Woodstock, my buddy worked at the next 'festival' type of event, in Byron, GA. My friend happened to be awake when, at 4 am, Hendrix got up on the little stage my buddy had helped build, and played an unamplified guitar to a very small smattering of people who were awake. He said that it was a magical hour or more. Thank you Jimi, Noel Redding and Mitch for being true to their talent and leaving us with the joy of their creativity..

Mitch and Jimi were professional friends...but Hendrix himself was frequently remote, and Mitch was a little stand-offish as an individual..They were not very close, but clearly respected each other's talents. A little rushed, to say the least - but let's not forget that Jimi's profile (and those of Mitch and Noel) were far lower at the time, than today.
Yes, they've all gone up to the great gig in the sky but I'd suggest that the average level of knowledge of the average listener to the records, is far higher nowadays. People have more facts to hand.
I'd like to think that Mitch and Noel got an inkling of that happening but if they didn't - a pity. It certainly would've led to a more 'let's ask the only person who might actually know' - type questions.

Chas Chandler, however, in a radio interview that’s also available on RUclips, says that too much LSD and alcohol were having a detrimental effect on Hendrix.
And if I heard Mitch Mitchell correctly he said that the original recording of “Hey Joe” included some female background vocals.

Here is a dose of reality about Mitch...in the late 1990s, Mitch showed up as a paid guest drummer for a bunch of prospective, very good student musicians...the event was held in Port Townsend, Washington State. One of my sons's friends was a talented sax player, who actually jammed with Mitch onstage at this gathering!..Typically for a young punk, the kid eventually told me that he had "jammed with some old, frizzy-haired dude, who had been paid to be a special guest...but he did not sound very special on drums...oh, guess what? The guy was named Mitch Mitchell...I know you are a very big Hendrix fan...but almost none of my fellow young musicians thought this guy was much good on drums!" I guess around this time, Mitch must have been just going wherever the money was offered?!

Jimi needed a player like mitch because rock drumming is just to basic and really couldn't fill the massive sound that Jimi created. Mitch was sophisticated enough to make the drums more vocal than the basic back beat. I believe he was responsible for rock fusion music. Mitch branched out and had expanded it because of his freedom he had. He was overall better than John Bottom IMO. so underated. RIP Mitch.
