  • Ricko talks about clutch springs and shows us how to change the spring on your primary while the clutch is still on the snowmobile. If you are nearly as passionate about snowmobile tuning as we are, we'd really appreciate a thumbs up or a subscription to the channel. Also, we're out here making these videos for the greater good of being part of a supportive sledding community. We like to engage with folks that have the same passion as us.
Remember, these are purely opinions and you should always check with your manufacturer before trying this at home.

Use a C clamp to hold the clutch cover on for your 3rd hand if you’re at the shop and working alone. Saves the end of the bolt holes from getting things cross threaded or stripped during removal and installation

This helped alot. Didn't know it was so easy to change the spring. I picked up a Sno Pro 500 for a good deal. They threw a lot of upgrades at the sled and she started to have a bogging issue, they sold it instead of working on it. I've narrowed it down to the primary Spring. It's completely shot. Found a good after market replacement, going to order it soon and give it a try with a buddy nearby. I'm new to working on machines in general and people like u make it easier to learn about things like this, I highly appreciate you taking your time to upload! If I remember I'll make an update on it!

@@DIGIT9 Finally got around to doing it! It was extremely simple to do. My buddy popped in to help slap it together. Took about 30 minutes total. My old spring was in 2 prices, like I thought. Hopefully it's all I'll need to play into the upcoming season!

Update!! The Sno Pro 500 is working like a charm! I've found out there's a crutch kit along with some vforce 3 reeds, It's easy to send the skis dangling and it's honestly got my arms sore! I absolutely love this thing! Pretty cool how a vid I watched last year got me up and running this season! Thanks for the knowledge!!!

Thanks for this video , going to put a new spring in a 99 xc 700 today , it was broken when I got it and I'm just finishing up rebuilding the top end from the water pump belt being broken- b4 I got it ! It should be ready to run in within next day or 2 !!!! Ohhh yaaaaahhhh gettin ready 2 send it don't yah know aaaaaaaa. Update : got the new spring in after a full clean up and just new lock washers for peace of mind . Spring was a tight squeeze there, but i lubed the main clutch bolt and pushed in and turned after a few tries just brought the outer pressure plate in 80% of the way then cleaned and antiseazed bolts and drew it in no problem ! Even have the X lined up !!! Haaa haaaaaaaaa, tomorrow is the big first start after a few more touchups !

Thanks for the video brother! My 1st snowmobile at 44yrs old. Having a blast with it when she is co-operating. 04 Yamy 700-triple.
I recently burned out a belt in heavy wet snow. New OEM belt now engages at like 5k rpms, previously it was 4k
With it like this I'm doing 40 tops at 8-9k rpms. I need to adjust my primary correct? Definitely probably needs a new spring. I'll probably start there.

I bought my first sled in the spring, its low miles at 1,500 miles but its a 1990 AC Jag Deluxe. So based on age alone, i should probably replace the spring, right? I have secondary off and waiting on clutch puller to arrive to pull and clean the primary, but i didn't think to ask this based on years instead of miles on other videos. Yeah it's mint and clean, but i doubt the old guy ever cleaned the clutch let alone disassembled them and let the spring relax. I wonder the same mileage vs years sitting about the shock as well.

I appreciate your channel.. Can I get some advice on a 2009 Artic Cat CFR800 primary clutch with 5000 miles on her.. The clutch seems to hang up when coming down from 5000 rpm to idle. Would the common failure mode be that the weighted cam bushings are allowing the cams to rub? What do you think? Can I change the cam bushings without pulling the spider off (total disassembly)??
