Good luck with your search, Aaron. Those old chisels look awesome. Thanks for passing on the info about tools and how they affect our hands. It should help me handle some arthritis issues also. I am amazed with how you are handling your health challenges. Hoping for best outcomes.

Thanks for sharing your ongoing experience with this. It's somehow comforting to others of us who are struggling with health issues that impede our livelihood/passions.
Always wishing you the best in your journey!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and am a 66-year-old sheet metal worker. My hands are gradually deteriorating. The one thing that allows me to keep doing my job is experience. I am able to think of different ways of doing things to ease the impact on my hands. For example, I bought a small electric wood splitter which I used to make kindling - no impact on hands at all. I guess a little bit of that older but wiser thing is starting to kick in. Good luck in your journey. Thanks for sharing......i use grippy thin gloves to increase my grip strength, or cushion my joints a bit. 👍

Thanks for sharing Aaron, joint pain is a challenge that some never experience. The difficulty can be the fact that if you were in pain and a rash developed across your face, everyone would know something was wrong. But unfortunately that isn’t the case with joint pain. Your attitude, workmanship, determination to overcome the challenges and more importantly, your family support is inspiring. Take care, love your appreciation of Sheffield steel. Have a great week.

As a boatbuilder I can fully relate to the wear and tear on your hands. I've had to be careful about that throughout my career. I'm also a fan of those British brands. Marples, Robert Sorby, Henry-Taylor. Great Sheffield steel. Take a great edge and holds it long enough, and more importantly, isn't a bear to resharpen like A2 steels and such are. My go-to are pattern makers paring chisels for most of my finer boat and luthier work. The ones Sorby still makes are lovely to use and have boxwood handles that are right up your alley.

Thanks for updating us on your situation.
I just picked up a 1.25" firmer chisel recently, but I have not had a chance to use it yet. The handle feels a bit large for me, even though I wear a tight large/loose extra large glove. I can see how it would be more comfortable.
A friend of mine was put on Gabapentin recently and I mentioned how you had said it was helping you with some of your pain. I've been dealing with a lot of knee pain lately and have seriously considered trying it myself. I'm going to attempt a change in my diet to see if that helps with pain first. I know that's not your cause, but it might be mine.
I'm looking forward to your future updates on your progress.

I feel your pain. I'bve been dealing with the damn bone spurs for all of my adult life after the age of 25yrs old. It is definitely a limiting ailment. And the pains and aches are not understood by just about anyone. Good luck and God Speed as we make the best we can of a very bad situation in life.

Hi Aaron, Here in the UK I had both thumb joints removed and tendons placed in the gap, it's called LRTI, don't remember what it stands for 😊 but it takes away the pain and still have usable thumbs . 👍🏻
