- Derby (/ˈdɑːrbi/ (listen) DAR-bee) is a city and unitary authority area in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, which is in the East Midlands Region. It was traditionally the county town of Derbyshire. Derby gained city status in 1977, the population size has increased by 5.1%, from around 248,800 in 2011 to 261,400 in 2021.
Derby was settled by Romans, who established the town of Derventio, later captured by the Anglo-Saxons, and later still by the Vikings, who made their town of Djúra-bý one of the Five Boroughs of the Danelaw. Initially a market town, Derby grew rapidly in the industrial era. Home to Lombe's Mill, an early British factory, Derby has a claim to be one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution.[citation needed] It contains the southern part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. With the arrival of the railways in the 19th century, Derby became a centre of the British rail industry.
Derby is a centre for advanced transport manufacturing, being home to the world's second largest aero-engine manufacturer: Rolls-Royce. Bombardier Transportation has a production facility at the Derby Litchurch Lane Works while Toyota Manufacturing UK's automobile headquarters is located southwest of the city at Burnaston.

I was born in Derby, a little house in Bridge Street in 1948, where I lived with my parents and family until I was 10, then we were moved to a Council House on Cowsley Road, near the Chaddesden Estate, where I lived until I was married. Then I moved out of Derby and I didn't go back for many, many years. I paid a fleeting visit a couple of years ago to see my aging aunt and what little I saw of it I didn't recognise the place. I didn't recognise any of the places in your video either save in the distance a glimpse of the tower in the market place. Derby isn't the place I once knew. The changes are probably for the better no doubt, but It was also a little sad that Derby is now not the place I once knew'
I love living here so much history and beauty to be seen the old buildings etc ❤
you need to see the world mate.

Before Roman times it was an a small settlement called Northworthy.
Not bad for a city with almost 2000 years of history 👍 SUPER DERBY 💪
Visit Stamford. Same age but has respected its past instead of concreting it.
So little greenery downtown. Come on Derby, plant some trees. Ya need plants to absorb the emissions from vehicles.
Come see my road The first thing you will see are trees
Did you get fined for driving along Morledge during the restricted hours?
Actually looks quite nice. I thought it was supposed to be rough ?

@@lowlightRN Poor, rundown and crime ridden.
It is a terrible place to live and work, you cant really see on the roads, walk down the streets that are pedestrianised and you will be shocked.@@002lisamarie
