I own one in Costa Rica. I've put it to the test. I get 45 on the highway with high octane fuel on auto mode, then in sport mode its sufficiently peppy and fun to drive on these winding mountain roads. This car is super light and in lock 4x4, it's very well at climbing up slippery muddy roads. Even in inclines. It's not real torquey nor does it have the clearance for safari type mudriding but if you want a car very capable of getting you through sandy beaches, muddy roads and up slippery inclines but still handles like a top and gets you amazing gas mileage this is the all around choice. I also have an awd crv that doesn't even come close to capabilities. The honda CRV gets only 34 compared to 45 and isn't offroad capable in the least bit. The vitara is far more fun to drive but sure it has somewhat of a cheaper interior but the price makes up fo it. Plus I find it much easier to wash. I don't care so much about whether some of the plastic in the car is "Soft touch" or not. The Crv does have quite s bit of space but for my wife, my toddler and me I find the vitara just as suitable space wise. The seats go down very nicely and there's plenty of space to haul things. I would close the vitara over the Honda for functionality, drivability, gas economy and it's offroad capability anyday.

Hi, we live in New Zealand and have owned our Vitara 2015 1.6 Allgrip since new and it's now done just over 125000Km and have had no problems just one brake light got replaced last year and that's it. Due to us going a lot off rd The best thing we did with ours was to get rid of those stupid road tires and replaced them with proper AT tires - Falcon 215/60R17 - this gave the vehicle lots more grip / traction and are more suited for this type of vehicle as it is advertised as an on/off road vehicle (not 4X4). The falcons also makes the vehicle look more aggressive and by going to a larger size tire we also gained a little more ground clearance. other than that its a great vehicle made by Suzuki. Cheers Glenn v from NZ
I bought one of these new, 3 years ago and after owning a Jeep, i would say the only thing holding back this car off road, would primarily be poor ground clearance. I could add the lack of low range too, but i find this isn't used much anyway! But, its surprising the sort of very steep rutted bush tracks this car will take me.

Hi Roy, thanks for your comment, but for reference, I do not own a PS5. The path was more than slightly 'muddy' and the car did not belong to me, so I did not want to damage it. If you understood how difficult it is to build trusting relationships to get access to test cars you'd understand why I would be concerned about handing a car back damaged.
I disagree. Yes, some parts can be done in any car, but other parts are rutty, uneven and would require adequate ground clearance. By all means feel free to take a sportscar down there and see how you get on.
Hello Dingo en Ruta, thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. Yes, I can see where you're coming from, but as I admitted myself, I am not the most experienced off-road driver, I'll be the first to make that clear. Try the Dacia Duster 4x4 on this road :D
Hello Darius, I will do if I get the chance - thanks for watching 👍
That would be a really good comparison to have actually! I guess making the videos on different days the conditions would be different so can't read too much into it, but still would be interesting to see where it struggles / succeeds compared to the Vitara.
that's not off road because you are still on a road a trail ,something hard are below you're tires ,that s a road without tarmac
Well I'd like to see a Ford Fiesta do it without getting stuck 🤣
Where is this track?
Coldharbour, Surrey. Thanks for watching.
Sorry to say that but you'd better play with your PS5 instead of panicking on slight "muddy" roads. Anyway, thanks for the video.
@@CarObsession 😉👌
This is not off-road just muddy tracks. You can drive this in any car.
I disagree. Yes, some parts can be done in any car, but other parts are rutty, uneven and would require adequate ground clearance. By all means feel free to take a sportscar down there and see how you get on.
For example, around the middle section of the video would have been quite the struggle for Ford Fiesta 🤷♂️.
@@CarObsession i do not speak about a sportscar just a normal one. I dive a lot off-road in normal cars, its no rocket science.
2 WD with good tires would pass this road with ease.
On some bits, yes, on other bits I disagree. Thanks for watching.
Maybe the road in this video but not this muddy path through the woods. Or are you talking about your mountain bike? ;)
Which country
UK, thanks for watching.
@@CarObsession which place of UK?

Testing off-road capability not knowing a bit how to drive off-road
Hello Dingo en Ruta, thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. Yes, I can see where you're coming from, but as I admitted myself, I am not the most experienced off-road driver, I'll be the first to make that clear. However, one could argue that this makes me the ideal person to test the car because if an idiot like me can drive the car off-road with no real issues, then it highlights how capable the car is. Having said that, I have done more off-roading since, therefore my experience is growing slowly but surely 👍
@@CarObsession defusing skill: +10
Its not about a ride, its about a driver :) Man could drive this track whit Swift if has balls
Hmm, I'm not sure a Swift would get down there pal. For starters, I don't think it'd have enough ground clearance. Thanks for watching 👍🏽.
should have let the girl drive it sounds like at least she had some idea of what to do. you could tell he was afraid of hurting the car.
Hi David, thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. Yes, you're correct; I was wary of damaging the car as it wasn't mine and it was on loan from Suzuki.
I thought you were goin to apologize for the lady talking..
Hello Looch 1ner, thanks for watching - why would I need to apologise for my wife talking?
I really like the dynamic between you two and having her definetely made the video more "fun" :)
This has been the most beneficial off road video i've seen so far 👍
@@0prissac0 Thanks for the positive feedback 👍🏽
I drive off road everyday
Esp off in mud mode.... that's why its spinning and you got stuck
What makes you say the Esp is turned off? It was on as far as I can remember. Thanks for watching.
@@CarObsession I meant. Turn it off and itll grip more in mud mode. Transferring the power to all wheels Instead of one. Also downhill decent will only work with lock activated :)
who taught how to steer, you are so stiff move your hands man.
Hi Phil, thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback.
Cmon man... my hatchback has seen steeper slopes 🤣 (stones on stones)
Hi there, yes, I get what you mean, but there were some parts of the course a hatchback definitely could not do. Thanks for watching.
Not realy 4x4 country ...
Well I'd like to see a supermini do the same course 😅
@@CarObsession LOL
This off road was ridiculous. And u almost stuck 👎👎👎
Hello Snowpeak74, sorry the video wasn't too your liking, thanks for watching anyway.
Stop saying 'Without further ado'. It makes you sound boring.
Well that's quite a subjective (and in my opinion, picky) thing to say Gerben, but thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback.
