Great video. Mario Party means a lot to me, so a video series dedicated to it is right up my alley. I remember watching Scott The Woz's video about the game only to be disappointed that most of it was a sketch of him and his (admittedly funny) friends playing a mock board game. So it's nice to watch someone who's actually interested in analyzing everything about the game. As someone who grew up in the Gamecube and Wii era, going back to playing this one is a tough pill to swallow. I can see why some would enjoy just how overly chaotic and random this one is compared to later entries, but to me, this one goes way too far with your overall lack of control and in my eyes is the weakest entry from the Hudson Soft era. I do like its unique ideas though like the selectable items and the bizarre characters and world, and I definitely agree with Yoshi's Tropical Island being the best board. As for my favorite minigame, I've always been fond of Shy Guy Says. It's such a simple concept presented in such a charming way, although I prefer the Mario Party 2 version where losing gets you shot out of the sky instead of being stranded at sea. I also respect seeing a fellow Yoshi main, and let me tell you, as the only person I know who genuinely liked math, the opinionated math system has me thrilled to say the least. You've got something strong going for you, man. I've been watching since the Super Monkey Ball video, and your quality is so high that I'm shocked you don't have at least 1,000 subscribers by now, let alone 100.
Thanks so much for watching! I really love Mario Party and I’ve always wanted to talk more in depth about each game, so i’m really looking forward to continuing this series. Yeah, Mario Party 1 is just so chaotic and punishing, it’s definitely one of the games that i play the least with friends. Thanks for the comment!! I’m looking forward to continuing this series soon and I hope that you enjoy it!
been rewatching all of the retrospective videos again, thanks for making such a cool video series, i really love mario party and learning tons more about it is rlly fun too! super excited for the mario party ds video, loved that game
the whack part bout mario party 1's stick rotating minigames is that Cast-aways is really easy when rotating the stick w/o the palm and the timing's really simple for it. the other 3 minigames, 2 of which're 1v3 (Tug-o-war+Paddle Battle) and one being single-player (Pedal Power), are just really bad the strangest thing is of these 3 stick rotating minigames, Paddle Battle is the only one that is actually easily winnable when you don't use your palm for it. sure it may be the longest of the 3 but I can confirm the palm method was never needed for that minigame, granted I'm somewhat certain this could depend on cpu's difficulty. so these 2 specific minigames, Cast-aways and Paddle Battle(may depend on cpu difficulty) really aren't that bad since you never needed the palm method for those at all. Tug-o-war is deff one of the worst minigames in the series(it doesn't help they brought it back twice), as you seem to literally require the palm method to beat it. doing it w/o palm method is literally impossible. tug-o-war's one of those minigames where its literally best to just give up or reset da turn than to play it out, as its one of the 2 impossible to win minigames. even on easy difficulty, yes, on easy, the cpus will always win this one, which's so incredibly weird cuz you think they wouldn't be so good but they somehow are when on easy. Pedal Power's the 2nd worst one as its the 2nd and last impossible minigame. weirdly no palm method does work, but you still always get caught no matter what, so like Tug-o-War, but for diff reasons, its effectively impossible to beat w/o palm method, so its better to give up or reset the turn. w/these in mind, its actually really sad but interesting, how MP1's minigame island, while deff possible to beat, is also technically completely impossible all specifically because of Tug-o-war and Pedal Power 🤔
The start of a fun and chaotic series that can still get chaotic to this day if you're lucky enough. Also, I feel like I should quote Wario's voice line when he loses, but I won't do that because I don't wanna annoy anyone... But I will quote his Japanese voice line because it's so dang good just like his America version of the voice line, which is: "OH MY GOD!"
Happy I stumbled across this can't wait to watch 'em all. As someone whos spend nearly his entire life being way to good at Mario Party, my only disagrees are that Pirahna Pursuit is RIDICULOUSLY easy to win as the 1. I don't think I've ever seen someone lose unless it was on purpose. And Cast Aways I find it very easy to go where you want. I don't quite understand the arguement of finicky controls.
I guess shy guy says, slot car derby, and mushroom mix-up. Honorable mention to all the games that would be great if they didn't end way too soon, like hot rope jump.
I want to comment something before watching the video: your StarFox vid got recommended by the almighty algorithm and it was very enjoyable, and now this was recommended. From a quick glance to your channel, I can see you have lots of unique video topics I want to check out. Basically, what I want to say is that your content looks and sounds great, I'll be subscribing after I watch some more videos for sure 👍🏻 your channel has the potential to blow up in numbers so it hopefully does
thanks a bunch for stopping by and leaving a comment! I’m happy to hear that you’ve been enjoying the videos, there’s definitely more to come for sure!!
@@marksrecroom Let me give you some feedback for this video in particular, I enjoyed watching the minigames section but I didn't notice the score in the bottom right corner until the end, oops. For some reason in mobile, sometimes the profile picture appears in the bottom right corner which can hide some information. I also wasn't paying too much attention to the visual video but still haha just thought of letting you know. Excited to hear you talk about the best Mario Parties aka 2 and 6
@@fernando98322 that’s a good point! I just realized that watermark might be blocking that info. Thank you! Also the Mario Party 2 video is coming real soon 👀
Yeah, Peach's Birthday Cake is one of my favourite boards and I was so happy it got remade in Superstars. I think he just do not like linear boards. Wario's Battle Canyon is in my opinion okay. At least it has a unique and interesting theme with the bob omb war. All in all I really like that each board in MP1 has a story to tell.
Ironically I think the harsh and unforgiving nature of MP1 is what makes it stand out as opposed to other entries.
