Great video, I flew the National Guard thermal equipped OH-58 in support of law enforcement as part of the federal drug interdiction program. We were much less sophisticated as far as the equipment, and I fully agree with the Sheriff's description of the difficulty of the mission. In 20 years + in National Guard aviation I have to say it was the most challenging and fun flying I did as a guard pilot.
Nice. Cheers from Brazil. I live next to a local police department that operates the as350. Fun fact about their selection/requirements: to become a cop First you need a law degree then serve at least 2 years as patrol officer to apply for a pilot position
Just want to say a big thank you for creating such useful content, it is by far the best on RUclips and the fact you make it accessible to everyone is fantastic!
Excellent video, with excellent image quality! Thanks also to the pilot for the detailed explanations. I had always hoped for such long videos, you can never learn enough! Also good to see that your hands no longer need bandages.
Thanks for the praise. This was my last trip before I hurt my hands it just took a long time for the Sheriff’s office to approve the final edit. There are many more pilot interviews in the playlist if you have not seen them yet! ruclips.net/p/PLBR4d9-4bXFzSlMDhQ4C6-laQvf3ZnOBJ
Nice one Rick! lot of good info don't think I've seen another YT video doing such a detailed look into a LEP. Also you wouldn't want to set down close to any tree stumps noticed a fair chunk of that ship cost is tied up in the wescam mx10 system ($400k+)
DO IIIIIIITTTTTT! and to make it even easier be sure to sign up for my money saving course over at pilotteacher.com It was design purposely to hep people like yourself get flying!!
I wonder if a sheriff's office does not have a aviation option. Let's say I have a md500 wondering if they would hire my Helo and myself whether hourly or salary. Take over maintenance and things of that nature if that would be a possibility. What are your thoughts on that? Even as myself having almost 3,000 hours including in the sea dragon, seahawk and various other naval helos.
Hey Josh, I just spoke with Officer Kisling from that video, and he says your best bet is to personally visit the aviation unit and speak with the Chief Pilot. Don't call or email, this needs the personal touch. Let them know your intentions and interest and take it from there. If you are lucky, you may eventually get the Lottery Win of a fully paid flight school and join the department's flight line! Hope this helps!
@@PilotTeacher I have to get the license on my own dime. I work in Georgia and the only school I know of is in Eastman. Which is a very long drive. I can only hope I can get some kind of scholarship and take the classes on my own time. Thank you for talking to Deputy Kisling, that was super awesome of you.

Thats great to hear. Flying any machine at night chasing people is always going to test the flying skills!

Thats some serious requirements! I know many police departments require the pilots to be cops first in the US. Not so in Canada and the UK.

Thanks for your kind comments Bryan! I figured if I like this stuff others would too!
Really enjoyed that one Rick, you asked some great questions and the detailed responses were excellent. Many thanks 😉
Glad you enjoyed it!!

You’re welcome!
Excellent video! Thank you for your information.
Thanks Mark! It was a fun visit to the hanger.
Fantastic video. Thank you gentlemen. New sub. Very informative. God bless you!
Glad you liked it Gregg!!
What kind of cameras do you have in your chopper?
Sorry i didn't watch this but only half an hour. Your job is interesting and precious.
Can you interview a CH53 Pilot? The US Military largest Helicopter.
I don’t know one who flies them, sorry.
@@PilotTeacher You have enough viewers so someone should know someone who Pilots a CH53. They are truly the Blue Whales of Helicopters.
On the Airspeed Indicator, there are two lines . I would think the white line at 140 is the "Never to Exceed" speed. What is the red line at 120 mean?
The white line is just indicating 140kts. Its just the same as all the number markers. The red line is the Vne at 120.

This is what I want to do I'm already a veteran law enforcement officer. I would love to fly for my department.

@@PilotTeacher it’s not in the budget.
I know too many pilots that have severe neck injuries from those headsets They can't fly anymore😢

Can you get us a VIP corporate helicopter pilot
Fantástic 👍
I thought an oh58 was 4 bladed and based on thr 407?
The latest models are. The earlier versions based on the JetRanger were also called the OH-58.
@@PilotTeacher Thank you. Pretty good upgrade too. I keep forgetting how long they were around

You need to spend 20 years as a street cop before touching a copter.
