- We had NO idea what to expect but boy did we walk away smiling, happy, and ready to keep it going!!
This was our first time celebrating the infamous Bacolod City MASSKARA FESTIVAL 2022!! For those of you who are not familiar with this amazing festival the festival first began in the 1980’s after two major tragedies hit Negros. The prices of sugar cane, the primary agricultural crop of the island, hit an all time causing a terrible famine. That same year a inter-island vessel carrying many Negrenses collided with a tanker and sank which resulted in 18 lives lost and over 100 persons missing.
In the midst of all these events the festival came to life as a way to bring smiles to the faces of the people, lift spirits, and also celebrate the resilience of the people!!!
Over the years it's grown and grown into what it is today! People from all over the country (and the world) come to celebrate this bright, colorful, energetic, and incredible event!!
And as you can see we were right there along for the ride to keep the smiles going!!!

God definitely has his way of showing up in the best way possible ✨🙌🏾 Ever since we stepped foot onto the island of negros, we’ve been greeted with open arms and big smiles. It has been no different here in Bacolod as the people took over the streets and celebrated with pride during the festivities. We see why it’s world famous and OMG the chicken is to DIE FOR 👏🏾✨🙌🏾💯

OMG Will and Jose! Can't believe you guys made it to Bacolod!! I'm not sure if you're still there, but I do hope you get to try all the delicious food there. They're different from other parts of the Philippines. I would suggest having some Cansi (also spelled Kansi) at Sharyn's or Eron's, Chicken Inasal (which Bacolod is famous for since it all started there) at Nena's Beth in Manokan Country, and KBL (short for kadyos, baboy, and langka which are pigeon peas, pork, and jack fruit). And for sweets, you have to find some piaya and napoleones, and also ensaymada and sans rival at Felicia's.
OMG CAN WE JUST TELL YOU HOW MUCH WE NEEDED THIS COMMENT Just Me. Hehehe sorry for the CAPS lock, it just so happened that we are planning to hit up all the food spots tomorrow to film a vlog and you pretty much gave us all the places to go! Expect a shoutout for all the food recommendations 😋😋😋

It's been forever since I've been in Bacolod, but I forgot to say for KBL I read that it's good at Sandok Comfort Food. But cansi and inasal should be your priority over KBL if you have too much to try in one day. lol And for piaya and napoleones, maybe try Merzci or BongBong's.

Western Visayas has clean cities, great food, and wonderful culture. It's also progressing fast. I'm sure that tourists will be even more in the coming years. I wish all the Philippines would become developed.

Haha, we did finally Shash 😍😍. When we had our trip planned to Negros a few months ago it fell through with timing of other events but, as always, timing worked out better to come during this time and we're so glad we did!! The excitement and energy was literally contagious and you could just feel people excited to start getting this festival back on the map after 2 years of not being able to!!! Honestly Erin, you are spot on with what you said: The Filipino people make us happy as well and they truly do just embrace life as it is and live it to the fullest regardless of obstacles. Yes, we had filmed a clip of us talking about the festival however the background sound was more powerful than our voices so we didn't include it so we made sure we did in written for context! My Lacson Strip Experienced was so amazing my friends wanted to get some drinks , and guess we got a free drink around the street lot of free taste of alcohol drinks and we exit tipsy . 😂

The snake is 10 years older. I had my photo with that snake 10 years ago. 2012 Masskara Festival. And this is my first Masskara after 10 years.

It's a python so they don't typically bite but if they do they don't have deadly venom and most don't have strong enough jaws to truly impact as bad as other snakes but can constrict you if they feel threatened but that's not often. The owners know tell-tell signs so they felt comfortable.
