The competition started out on the streets and as much as we wanted to be apart of that moment as well Jade, we were told to get to the arena early 😅😅 don’t worry, when we return in the years to come, we are going to be shouting from the top of our lungs 🫁 like proud parents in the streets hahahahaha we had dinner last night with the head of PR and she was sharing with us on how this years Masskara was the biggest. Before they only had two locations in the city where people would celebrate and this year they had 7 locations (7 stages) all across the city. It was a huge success and we were so happy for everyone 🥹🥹🥹 you could just see the excitement and joy in the people’s faces and don’t get us started with the performers. It was bone chilling and made us tear up almost immediately 🥹🥹🥹 we do hope to experience more festivals and share with you and the rest of our RUclips family the amazing artistry of the people 💗💗💗

Tahum . Amazing and spectacular. Missing Masskara Festival for almost 10 yrs now after moving to CA. There will be a number of festivals coming back on January too. Cebu Sinulog Festival, Dinagyang of Iloilo City, Sinulog of Kabankalan City, Dinagsa of Cadiz City, Ati-Atihan of Aklan, etc. Most of these festivals are in Visayas Region. Hope u could visit them. It would be so much fun.

The colors were immaculate and we loved how every barangay had their own unique take to the masks 🎭 they wore to the extravagant head pieces 🤩 our jaws were to the ground every single time they did their big reveals and don’t get us started with their props. Overall it was a major success!!

We literally told ourselves the same thing hahahahaha like how was it possible for us to see them back to back without any form of security protocol. That would have never been the case back in the states. The grand prize was awesome and well worth all the time and energy that went into their performances. The great thing is that 7 other cash prizes were awarded to the 2nd-8th place finishers! We joked about how amazing it would be if we could partake in the festivities next year. We have designs and choreography in mind, all we need is a solid team, what do you say Miggy and Jim, want to join our dance team hahahahaha.

At first we were on the same boat as you Sabastian, we didn’t have any knowledge of the festival up until we arrived to negros. Luckily the stars were aligned and we knew it was meant to be as we made our way around the island and towards Bacolod. It was such a fun experience! From the nights of walking down Lacson street, to the two days of watching the performances. It was all electrifying ⚡️ thank you for watching from the comfort of your home and especially from the Bay Area! A part of California we never made it to 🥹😖 we lived in San Diego for a year 🙃

They truly came in handy during the festivities 🥳 anytime people saw the big camera they asked if we were vloggers and we immediately handed them our card 📇. Festivals on each6 region gets more amazing each year before pandemic. In fact thete is ALIWAN FIESTA held in Manila every summer . It is a competition of champions among champions from diffetent regions . Every year it gets tougher and tougher competirion . I miss those from Luzon , Visayas & Mindanao. Hopefully it gets back next year.

The costumes this year, from all the barangays, I feel they really amped it up and how fitting. The celebration of "Balik Yuhum" Way to go Bacolod. The craftsmanship in creating ALL the components of the costumes and the details. I'm looking at them through my screen but the details aren't missing. So intricately beautiful. And also by the recent earthquake again in the north. I really hope these would be the last ones, at least for this year. 🙏 Anyway, glad you were able to get good weather on your recent travels. :)
I think the positive side is that inspite of PH experiencing all these calamities on a reg. basis (being in the typhoon belt and the Pacific Ring of Fire), we remain one of the happiest and friendliest people on the planet. Perhaps that is what hardships and difficulties do - they help make you appreciate more the blessings :)

This video brought back a long-forgotten memory that I have. I once joined in this competition in an elementary school category when I was only 12yrs old. You may find it difficult to believe, but the masskaras and costumes that the participants wear are no laughing matter. The masskara alone weighs about 1-2kg, and I recall suffering from neck pain for nearly 5 days after the festival. Not to mention that these masskaras literally scrape the skin off your face because of the friction. We ended up putting foam on the inside and wear lots of bandaids on our faces😂.We danced with everything we got for the main competition at Paglaum Stadium, then we danced our way to the public plaza (1.1km distance) in scorching heat while wearing those heavy masskara and itchy/uncomfy costumes. It might be draining especially to a 12yrs old girl, (some of my friends even collapsed due to fatigue) but nonetheless it's a wonderful experience something I can be proud of. Now I'm in college and I didn't even get to enjoy the festival this year because I was stuck at home working my tail off for the never-ending schoolwork and preparing for the prelim exams. The good ol' days🥲🥲. This is a wonderful video Will and Jose thank you for sharing your experience and I am truly glad that you enjoyed your visit here in Bacolod💞💞
Wow your story painted such a vivid picture in our heads Jes 🖼️ we couldn’t agree anymore with you, the weight of the masks and costumes takes a huge toll of the dancer. We can’t imagine the pain and impact as you’re performing through the parade with short little rest periods. We didn’t see the street dancing but from the arena competition, we can assure you that many dancers were dropping like flys after the performances due to fatigue and dehydration🥵Our hats are off to you all who dedicate your time, energy and body to put on an amazing show for everyone 🎭 it’s such a pleasure to have seen every one of them put their heart and soul on the dance floor and it’s a big reason why Masskara is one of the BEST FESTIVALS of the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭

The competition started out on the streets and as much as we wanted to be apart of that moment as well Jade, we were told to get to the arena early 😅😅 don’t worry, when we return in the years to come, we are going to be shouting from the top of our lungs 🫁 like proud parents in the streets hahahahaha we had dinner last night with the head of PR and she was sharing with us on how this years Masskara was the biggest. Before they only had two locations in the city where people would celebrate and this year they had 7 locations (7 stages) all across the city. It was a huge success and we were so happy for everyone 🥹🥹🥹 you could just see the excitement and joy in the people’s faces and don’t get us started with the performers. It was bone chilling and made us tear up almost immediately 🥹🥹🥹 we do hope to experience more festivals and share with you and the rest of our RUclips family the amazing artistry of the people 💗💗💗

Tahum . Amazing and spectacular. Missing Masskara Festival for almost 10 yrs now after moving to CA. There will be a number of festivals coming back on January too. Cebu Sinulog Festival, Dinagyang of Iloilo City, Sinulog of Kabankalan City, Dinagsa of Cadiz City, Ati-Atihan of Aklan, etc. Most of these festivals are in Visayas Region. Hope u could visit them. It would be so much fun.

Cebu Sinulog is an amazing and grandiose festival just like Masskara Festival. It is also one of the biggest festival in the Phils and just like Masskara Festival, the city spends a lot in this festival. I believe the festivals I’ve mentioned are all being celebrated every January and sometimes on the same date as well. So hope you guys can catch up with all of these festivals. The colors were immaculate and we loved how every barangay had their own unique take to the masks 🎭 they wore to the extravagant head pieces 🤩 our jaws were to the ground every single time they did their big reveals and don’t get us started with their props. Overall it was a major success!!

We literally told ourselves the same thing hahahahaha like how was it possible for us to see them back to back without any form of security protocol. That would have never been the case back in the states. The grand prize was awesome and well worth all the time and energy that went into their performances. The great thing is that 7 other cash prizes were awarded to the 2nd-8th place finishers! We joked about how amazing it would be if we could partake in the festivities next year. We have designs and choreography in mind, all we need is a solid team, what do you say Miggy and Jim, want to join our dance team hahahahaha.

At first we were on the same boat as you Sabastian, we didn’t have any knowledge of the festival up until we arrived to negros. Luckily the stars were aligned and we knew it was meant to be as we made our way around the island and towards Bacolod. It was such a fun experience! From the nights of walking down Lacson street, to the two days of watching the performances. It was all electrifying ⚡️ thank you for watching from the comfort of your home and especially from the Bay Area! A part of California we never made it to 🥹😖 we lived in San Diego for a year 🙃

Hehehehe it’s like you read our minds. Before arriving to Bacolod we stayed in the city of Kabankalan and got some business cards made. They truly came in handy during the festivities 🥳 anytime people saw the big camera they asked if we were vloggers and we immediately handed them our card 📇. We also agree with you, it’s been a slow crawl with our number of subscribers but slowly and surely we will all get to 10k. When we do, we all need to go out and Karaoke the night away!!!! Even till this day Jeric, we get the goosebumps from watching the video clips of the performances. The energy in the arena was on a whole other level ✨⚡️ you can feel the excitement of the crowd and the beating of the dancers footsteps on the arena. Festivals on each6 region gets more amazing each year before pandemic. In fact thete is ALIWAN FIESTA held in Manila every summer . It is a competition of champions among champions from diffetent regions . Every year it gets tougher and tougher competirion . I miss those from Luzon , Visayas & Mindanao. Hopefully it gets back next year.

Those costume’s definitely took months to create 🤯 Every single piece was uniquely designed and made to perfection. No outfit was the same and every mask was crafted so beautifully 💗💗💗💗 while watching the arena competition, we joked about coming back next year with our own team, what are your thoughts Viv? FYI, the choreographers of the street dancers were members of the LGBTQ that includes the costume designs and everything.

I legit got emotional beacuse I am so so so damn proud of my hometown. The literal blood, sweat, tears and stress for all these barangays....WOW! They did not disappoint! The costumes this year, from all the barangays, I feel they really amped it up and how fitting. The celebration of "Balik Yuhum" Way to go Bacolod. The craftsmanship in creating ALL the components of the costumes and the details. I'm looking at them through my screen but the details aren't missing. So intricately beautiful. I can feel the pure joy and fun through your videos and seeing you both experience this is just even better. Cannot say it enough how happy I am for you both. I think the positive side is that inspite of PH experiencing all these calamities on a reg. basis (being in the typhoon belt and the Pacific Ring of Fire), we remain one of the happiest and friendliest people on the planet. This video brought back a long-forgotten memory that I have. I once joined in this competition in an elementary school category when I was only 12yrs old. You may find it difficult to believe, but the masskaras and costumes that the participants wear are no laughing matter. The masskara alone weighs about 1-2kg, and I recall suffering from neck pain for nearly 5 days after the festival. Not to mention that these masskaras literally scrape the skin off your face because of the friction. We ended up putting foam on the inside and wear lots of bandaids on our faces😂.We danced with everything we got for the main competition at Paglaum Stadium, then we danced our way to the public plaza (1.1km distance) in scorching heat while wearing those heavy masskara and itchy/uncomfy costumes. It might be draining especially to a 12yrs old girl, (some of my friends even collapsed due to fatigue) but nonetheless it's a wonderful experience something I can be proud of. Now I'm in college and I didn't even get to enjoy the festival this year because I was stuck at home working my tail off for the never-ending schoolwork and preparing for the prelim exams. Wow your story painted such a vivid picture in our heads Jes 🖼️ we couldn’t agree anymore with you, the weight of the masks and costumes takes a huge toll of the dancer. We can’t imagine the pain and impact as you’re performing through the parade with short little rest periods. We didn’t see the street dancing but from the arena competition, we can assure you that many dancers were dropping like flys after the performances due to fatigue and dehydration🥵Our hats are off to you all who dedicate your time, energy and body to put on an amazing show for everyone 🎭 it’s such a pleasure to have seen every one of them put their heart and soul on the dance floor and it’s a big reason why Masskara is one of the BEST FESTIVALS of the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭
