WOW. Thanks. This is so helpful for us med students!
Really enjoyed this comparison. Thank you!
One big difference, you can start doing USMLE while you're in med school. Also salary and opportunities are much better in USA. The amount of money and time you invest in USMLE tests is definitely paying off really quickly.
That is true :) Yeah, I thought that long term wise, US might indeed be a better option. But it also depends on what kind of life you aim for for your future.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Very well said. But i believe the first thing that needs to be decided is where do you want to live. If you feel that US is your place the you should strive for that. I personally always wanted to work in the UK that why I did the PLAB exam
@@Drzeezy should we have to put more effort like usmle
Yes but just because US option offers more money doesn’t mean it is the better choice. You should choose where you feel you are happier. I personally don’t like US and don’t have much family. I prefer europe. Nicer healthier lifestyle for me.
Great content. Love the enthusiasm
Thank you for this!
Thank youuu so much! Ur vids are really helpful 💓 Hope you continue to share your journey. Good luck 💪
Thank you for your kind words! :)
Thanks a lot... Ur vedio is really too informative.... 👍👍👍
Most welcome 😊
Hello, I recently took the Nov 2020 PLE and am planning to take the PLAB next year. They say that the 1700 MCQs might not be really of big help as the exams have change. Have you tried taking PLAB 1? And what other high-yield study materials could you recommend?
hi can you share the work life balance in each of specialities in uk ? or maybe the major ones in collab with your friends who are currently pursuing those specialities ? i am really confused as to which speciality would choose 😢
Doc is the acceptance rate for filipino imgs better in us or uk?
Already subscribed and also sharing your videos to my batchmates planning to take PLAB and USMLE :) I also msged on fb, I hope you wont find that intrusive hehe
Haha thank you doc for all your support! :) I appreciate it a lot! And yes I'll get back to you on your questions.
Thank you po for this insight doc! I hope you’ll also vlog on how to apply residency in UK. 😺
Hi Mozammel! Glad you found it helpful. You can check this video out for a brief overview :) ruclips.net/video/JIJrU2qWJYU/видео.html
If i am an img and i take step 1 and step 2 ck instead of plab for the uk residency
Is that acceptable for the GMC ???
How about post graduation do the college provide by own after passing PLAB
Just curious. Since in this video it says that PLAB is easier than USMLE, does this mean that US doctors are better than UK doctors? Just genuinely curious. No hate. :)
Hi Sarang, I read about something called “attending bottleneck” meaning that its much harder to find an attending job after your specialty training in the UK so many people are stuck at training level jobs. Is this true/what do you think about this?
Ohhh. I switched my direction back to USMLE, so I am not aware of this. Where did you find that information?
There is some truth to this but this ‘attending (consultant) bottleneck’ you’re referring to typically applies only for select hyper competitive specialties such as Neurosurgery and Cardiothroacic Surgery which are fields in which there are many many more applicants and trainees than number of available attending positions and there is also a lack of current attending doctors in these specialties wanting to retire.
Because there is typically a lower demand for services in heart and brain surgery the government doesn’t have an incentive to fund new training or consultant positions hence there is a bottleneck there.
Most other specialties are not like this at all, and you’ll likely be able to obtain a consultant post after completing your training years and applying for a CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training).
@@Zer0r2 Thank you for this insightful response! :)
@@SarangChoiMD congrats
Hello doc. Is it better to take Step1 while you are still on 2nd year?
Only if you are ready and confident you'll pass and get a good score. Never take it if there are chances you'll fail. It doesn't reflect well for matching in the future.
Mam will I get a job immediately after completing the plab in UK ??
Do you get salary while having residency as img or just pure training?
You get paid once you are hired and start working in any of the NHS hospitals :)
You definitely do get a salary :)
where r you staying in Manila? Currently in Manila, can I call you personally to get advise and get motivated.
Hello did you passed IELTS or oet?
HELLO
I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING PLE
if your a graduate already do you need to pass your PLE before applying for PLAB
No you don't need to pass the PLE to apply for PLAB
Unni so kyotttttttttt hehe
Hehe gomawo :))
do you get paid while doing a residency in the US?
Yes you do! :)
0:15 sold. Don't say more
haha
Alam moba kung magkano Ang residency salary ng medical doctor?
I see in your recent videos now you are preparing for the Usmle.
Yes :) Here's the video to why I switched to USMLE: ruclips.net/video/2qh6uOzgE10/видео.html
(I also just thought that long term wise, US might be a better option for me)
But you have to pay college fees right ?? For uk?
If you go there as an IMG, you are applying for a job after the exams, so you'll be paid while working
Funny you say that. I’m a student in the UK and I’m looking to move to the US 😂
Why is that?
@@DocTraderPH faster training progression, better salary, lower taxes, focuses teaching sessions during your career as you progress and more direct training routes plus the ability to expand yourself as a clinician due to the medical field being private.
@@HassanPoyo Sounds promising, however regarding the salary an FY2 doctor told me this
"Sorry to say but this is very misleading in terms of uk salary. You haven't done your homework clearly. 28000 pounds is BASIC salary for 1st year intern, this is only for a 8hrs/day 5 days a week. Nobody does that. All doctors have oncalls nights weekends for which they get about 40 42000 pounds. For 2nd year intern, it goes up to 47 to 50000 pounds(my case). This is the case for resident also who get 60 to 70000 pounds. US residents work 80 to 100 hours a week. UK is 40 to 60 hours max.
The only difference is when you are a specialist, where US is higher than uk. Even then I won't advise anyone to go for US. Many have left US to come to UK."
Regarding the training progression, its about the same since you have to wait 2 or more yrs to finish the step exams in US unlike in UK wherein you can start immediately. Plus the match is way harder in US
@@DocTraderPH over the span of my career I will be better off financially in the US. I already know that the basic salary is the bare minimum, I constantly speak to doctors on hospital wards (im placed on hospital rotations right now). The US training progression to become Attending is around 3 years. Im also sitting all my step exams in my 3rd and 4th year of medical school in the UK so the 2 year wait (which ive never heard of anyway) won’t apply to me as im still completing my education here. Matching is harder but nothing in medicine is easy, as long as I score above average on my STEP exams and complete an internship, get references and publish one or two research papers I have a really good chance of matching in my chosen specialty in a nice area.
@@HassanPoyo Hope you take your step before pass/fail. Because now imgs have a very slim chance
is UK and Australia are the same process?
No, the Australian Medical Council has their own pathways for registration
@@SarangChoiMD oh thank you
What is img?
International Medical Graduate (IMG)
UK doctors earn peanuts compared to US doctors for the same amount of work. There's a reason it's easier.
10/10 🤓
But I've heard that the uk doctors are really underpaid and overworked...I'm confused😤
They have labor law, which doesn't allow them to be overworked. Many of my school's alumni are there (one of them a close friend) and all of them are satisfied being a doctor in the UK. :) they even have paid vacations.
@@SarangChoiMD Good morning doctor! Thank you for your video! I would like to ask if post-PLAB, will we be restricted to being GPs? Or is it similar to the USMLE where we work as residents, and eventually practice as consultants in the future?
@@allypolicarpio3537 Hi! You won't be restricted to being a GP. You can choose your preferred specialty. My previous roommate is currently in vascular surgery for instance. Once you're in a training job, you work for roughly 8 to 10 years and then you become a consultant. But that also depends on your specialty and also on how early you start your training job. Hope this helps! :)
@@SarangChoiMD Thank you very much Dr Choi for your kind response! 🙏🏻
And unhappy, very true
Working hours in uk are decent but training is very long
yeah, hence my switch back to usmle preparations haha
@@SarangChoiMD smart
So doc you preferred taking usmle over plab ?
@@SarangChoiMD can you please explain few reasons why you changed your mind and preferred USMLE again instead? Pls that would be helpful. I’m so confused. Would appreciate your reply.
@@rickybp2259 ruclips.net/video/2qh6uOzgE10/видео.html I explain it here in this video :) But mainly because of traning years, earnings, familiarity of country, family, etc.
Can uk junior doctors work in private hospital in UK?
Hi Max! Apologies for the late reply. I'm sorry but I am not very well aware of options UK Junior doctors have since I am not from the UK.
As of now where are you working?
:o :o :o
You use a Xiaomi phone, my guess
How did you guess that right hahaha
I used to only use samsung and iphones until someone gifted me this xiaomi and it's been really good to me so far :)
You liar.. I'm an fmg and in surgery.. my program only has fmg residents
I'm sure u failed usmle..
Lol... you guys aren't honest.
All my classmates in UK are only in psych.. plz be honest, we know usmle is hard so only smart fmg make it
