- Do you love the Rolling Stones but find it hard to find a good version of their music? Sticky Fingers may be one of their most popular albums, but it's hard to find a good quality recording. In this video, I'll share with you my tips on how to find a good version of the Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers album.

Very nice video. Thanks for this precious info ! Cheers
Thank you very much!
Got super lucky and found an absolutely perfect UK TML copy here in the States for a really reasonable price…but I might have to seek out the German pressing now. I’ve been in the same boat as you and your friend in trying to find a nice copy sonically, so thank you for the info! Such a great album
The TML UK is a really awesome! And also very hard to find! So I would treasure that!
Can you please do 2pac’s 1995 classic album me against the world because it’s 2pac’s most introspective effort to date. Hitting the shelves while he was still in prison, the album helped shift his image from that of ganngsta rapper to more of a gangster poet, setting the stage for 2pac to become one of the most famous mcs in the world.
Both the UK and German 1st pressings have TML in the deadwax, so any sonic differences are either extremely minimal or the listener’s imagination
It's the German TML A3/B3 that is the best for this record. He's right too, the German is better than the UK.
Mine was basically mint when I found it. In an antique shop, sitting on a chair. I asked the lady running the store, "Oh, I loved Andy Warhol, bought it for the cover. Played side one once".
I picked it up, thought it sounded great. Better than any other version. Had no idea why till a few years later......
Those are most often the nice bargains!
Can you do a top five Tom waits video?
Great idea! I’m putting that on my list!
Beautiful assessment. Not a real tech guy even though I'm a musician. Always felt Charlie wasn't loud enough, so maybe that bass-y sounding pressing is the one for me.
Well the bassy one (the MFSL) really messes up the balance. Also; the definition of the bass is not so good.
I bought the cd version of it and listened to the album on RUclips. They both sounded great to me. I'm just happy this legendary "old" music is still there for us to listen to.
LPCent 38 Virgin UK repressing 1997….that’s a good repress it isn’t cheap, but it’s good. To my ears, it’s the only repressing that I’ve heard that can match the OGs. It’s damn good. I sadly don’t have a TML German pressing…😞
That sounds interesting! I would love to compare one of those to a TML. Do you know what master/stampers they used?
@@top5records796 no, I don’t. Is it on the dead wax? It’s impressive. I have 8 versions of SF…a free duplicates but most are various US pressings. This is right up there with the OGs.
@@Donjasoni that information could be in the deadwax indeed. Might be interesting to know; perhaps they somehow used the same stampers?
@@Donjasoni I checkes discogs it is a digital remaster by Bob Ludwig. Which is interesting; I’m rarely impressed by digital remastering but then again, Bob Ludwig is a legend. Sounds like an interesting comparison!
@@top5records796 oh wow!!! I didn’t realize that. That would certainly explain why it’s good. If it’s going to have a digital reissue at least it’s Robert Ludwig that reissued it. I don’t know if they confirmed that it was definitely digital but I imagine it was. Regardless, it’s pretty impressive. It’s as good as any of the OGs I have. The Presswell OG sounds excellent. I recently purchased a Sonic pressing that I will compare (I hear that’s good). I’ve not heard a monarch. I’ve never heard a TML. I really want one but I never see them around. I’d be interested to hear how you think the Robert Ludwig reissue compares to it.
I have a monarch 2nd or 3rd pressing. It’s nice. Wild horses is my test track. I hear tons of distortion on bad versions
Sounds interesting! Do you know who did the mastering on the Monarch pressings?
@@top5records796 I do not know who mastered as there is no indication in the deadwax. Maybe an in house Atlantic engineer…
I have a lot of different pressings of this LP and a 7 1/2 IPS Reel to Reel tape. The R2R is the best sounding format for me. The German (1st) A3/B3 T.M.L. is the best sounding vinyl. 2nd would be the UK and German A4/B3 T.M.L. Remember the UK & German both use the same plates. All masted by Doug Sax? I think so.
Both are indeed mastered by Doug Sax. I would love to hear the Reel to Reel tape one day! Awesome that you have one!
TNL? TML? What is it?
It’s the initials of the mastering engineer…although Doug Sax did the record so idk…but it’s on some of the Original UK and German pressings. It’s rumored to be the best vinyl pressing of Sticky Fingers.
@@Donjasoni it is the initials of the company where (Doug Sax) did the mastering. It is The Mastering Lab. They did a lot of awesome sounding pressings.
I heard the AU/NZ press is quite good too.
Thanks! That sounds interesting!
Hello friend its my again.. your vinyl have TML in the matrix?
Thanks, good to hear from you. The best ones are the ones with TML in the deadwax. Mine have TML.
Didn't Goats Head Soup get the Blu ray 5.1 treatment for the Super de luxe box set couple years ago, why not do the same for Sticky Fingers that might improve things a little, if any album deserves upgrading Sticky Fingers is that one album✋😎
Interesting suggestion. I’m not always sure though what a 5.1 mix adds to the album. It can also tear it (literally) to pieces.
I have the Mobile Fidelity and it is awesome
Really? Do you prefer it over other copies?
@@top5records796 It is a very good pressing. I have an American first pressing that is decent but a little beat up and the MF really highlighted details I’d never heard before
i have a austrlian version from 1971. to me its a great. version. its a stones classic
Interesting! What does the matrix read?
Great - reissue Apple Records phenomenal
iTunes 2015 remaster is the best sounding digital version out there
I like your Pink Floyd shirt
Thank you!
I sale it for 2999.99euro..no joke my dad Was Born in this age and have it the first day it comes out..and a Person come to me an give me 2999.99euro
I just open my 2018 edition and it' .... meuhhh. 2 on 5. 45$ for that.. to finally listen at it on Tidal... The 2020 version of Goat head soup is ok, i'll give it a 4 on 5.
I’m so sorry to hear that! Hope you can still return it?
I listen it really today and that's weird, side B sound OK, even really good sometime. Side a: wild Horses sound crap , it's the worse. Things starts to be better with Can't you hear me knocking. That's weird to see those differences between songs on a same album. @@top5records796
My dad die..and i got it from my dad
Hot take, every vinyl pressing of this album sucks. I bought the 90’s Virgin CD and was blown away by the clarity and detail. I’ve had multiple US, UK, and German pressings and all of them sucked balls compared to the digital remasters this album has had. The closest vinyl pressing I could think of that has that same clarity is the Mobile Fidelity 1981 pressing, but that is unfortunately ruined by the ungodly amount of bass thats in that pressing. Which is why I hate 80s MFSL pressings. Its such a shame that in the 80s, MFSL had some absolutely legendary titles under their banner (Doors S/T, Sticky Fingers, Beatles catalogue, Led Zeppelin II, Cosmos Factory, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, etc) but all of them are completely ruined because of Ricker’s mastering
I agree on the 80s (and some 70s) MoFi pressings… they are often horribly EQ’d.
