    Love the fact that it looks as vintage as it is! Glad he resisted cleaning and polishing every surface of the engine, suspension, etc. Top notch!

    I absolutely love the proportions of this fine old car, not to mention the cool background soundtrack. A decent background soundtrack practically never happens in these youtube videos...lol

      @@HarryMollyNut ~ You may or may not be surprised, but I couldn't agree with you more. I make the remarks that I do, regarding these old cars because I have been a gear-head just about my entire life. I love physics, etc., so different ways of mechanical motivation have always been interesting to me. I don't have two nickels to rub together myself, so its not like I'm one of those rich pigs. I just like their toys.

      I have a 3 x 3m shed with a workbench and my moped i work on. I hsve JUST enough space to work and can barelly turn my ass to do something but when i enter that shed all my problems are gone.

    It is Gorgeous! The Iron lung sound. My grandfather was a WW1 pilot. 21 started to train. He graduated. 20 funerals. It is marvelous to listen to it breathe. Cheers

As a result, you have a Chinese totalitarian system with a rich "nomen clatura" and less rich millions of tightly controlled poor folks. The North Korean system is even worse. Does this help the sub-Saharan Africans? Humanity seems to be unable to eliminate that problem of birthrights. So we invented that beautiful fairytale called "from rags to riches."

    As an American who was sold on ''California was the birth of hot rodding'', these cars are enternally fascinating to me. I would love to have one of these in the states. What an experience it must be to drive. My 51' Plymouth is an experience, these must be a whole different level of theatrics. Love it. Respect from the ol' U.S. of A.

    I love this car. I love all the old aero engine open wheel cars. Gritty, and dirty and dangerously close to be out of control in the blink of an eye.

    The mosaic of sound this beast exudes..... A fabulously wonderful v8, with eyes closed is very much the low flying airctaft, the whine of the gears and chain, the distinct tyre sound. To experience this in its presence or even drive it would be indescribable.
    My 83 year old mate has just finished a model A rodaster with a mid 1930s 6 cylinder aircraft engine which is a vehicle of beauty, the v8 Hispano would be so much more..

    Just like this wonderful machine, the guy that made this is part of a dying breed that will soon be gone forever. It's so sad that so many young people today can't turn away from their video games to try and learn from guys like this

      Not all of us. Been working on old cars for years now. Built my 54 Mercury from a mechanical wreck up to a decently driving car. The big downside is just the price of the cars these days. I cannot afford most of the cars I like

      We're still here, my mate is 20, a massive steam fanatic and owns a traction engine. He's a wonderful metal worker and fabricator. I'm also 20, just bought my first car, a Triumph Herald, so starting out in the world of classic cars. And it's something I'm learning from and learning about. And most importantly, I'm learning from and asking people like Tom Walker (the chap in this video) for help and advice. There are still young vintage and classic enthusiasts.

    Top notch video, Goodwood... love the external distributor. The fact that the Suiso has survived is just amazing. And the best line was... " If you can't fix it, you're not trying hard enough!"... this was total inspiration!!

    Love this automobile! I had the chance to fly behind the "Hisso" engine in an old Travel Air biplane in the mid 1980s. Last I heard the airplane still exists in Oklahoma in the US. Sure would love to give it a go once again.

    The V8 was invented in France by Mr. Lavavasseur in 1902 the engine was named Antoinette, but that H-S 12L V8 is a formidable very early example of V8 power.

    In the USA between the wars these engines were popular with speedway drivers in their sprinters. Nick named the Hisso, they were actually cut down the middle to make a giant 4 cylinder engine .

This series of films about old early-20th century cars capture the magic of motoring, the passion and enthusiasm of the owners, and they all share a wonderful quintessentially British feel.       Hispano-Suiza 8 12-liter V8 300hp from 1915.just wiki it ,there is a huge piece on it.

    The SPAD used the more powerful American Liberty engine. The SPAD XIII was the fastest fighter of WW1 with a top level flight speed of 138 MPH and a terminal dive speed of 233 MPH (due to the innovative all metal airframe).
    Liberty engines were therefore a popular choice for record breaking planes, cars and boats in the 1920's.

      27 litres of V-12 aero engine would be a bit much for this tiny Amilcar chassis. At 845lb dry weight, the Liberty engine probably weighs damn near as much as this whole car...

      The spad xiii used an Hispano Suiza engine, Spanish, not American.

    Hispano Suiza engine? My 1928 Waco ASO came from the factory with this engine....It was used in WWI in the Spad, the 5A and other WWI airplanes....Later versions were geared to the propeller....
