    ► LYRICS
    She came from the past
She was never meant to last
    Her destiny was fatal
    From the start
    A messenger from hell
    She cast a deadly spell
On all of those who dare
    To cross her heart
Ain't no use in you trying to run
    Fate has taken it's toll
Just one look and the damage is done
    Burn your eyes
    Turn your heart into stone
    History foretold of a circle
    Cast in gold
    An evil seed of power
    Sealed within
But fate has lent a hand
    Destroyed the golden band
    And freed her soul
To wash the land with sin
Ain't no use in you trying to run
    Fate has taken it's toll
Just one look and the damage is done
    Burn your eyes
    Turn your heart into stone
    She cast a deadly spell
She put a spell on you
She's got evil in her heart
    Turn your heart into stone
    Turn your heart into stone

Eric Singer just absolutely KILLING IT on the drums on this album

At the time, I did kinda look at this album as "Tony Iommi, Glenn Hughes, and some guys", but when they did an instrumental medley during the live show and Eric nailed it on "Symptom of the Universe", he caught my attention. A different sound on his drums, very distinctive, and I enjoyed his work on "The Eternal Idol" as well.

Saw this show at Cobo Arena in Detroit in '86. Too bad Glenn Hughes was on drugs and forgot the lyrics to some of the classic Sabbath songs. People were throwing stuff at him.

I was at that show, too, and I shared a bootleg of it (made by someone else) that made the rounds for some years, thanks to my having a good friend who might be the world's biggest Black Sabbath fan (and he's lurking here). "Come on, Glenn" was a running joke between us for years, thanks to some crowd dialog during "War Pigs." I will say this: Unless someone took it down, the video of the show is up here on YT, and a look does seem to back up Glenn's statements that he'd been sucker-punched and was dealing with broken facial bones and blood literally draining into his throat as he was trying to sing. It definitely made me look at the experience from a different POV. You and I are among the "lucky" I guess, although it's also rare that I encounter someone who saw them with Ray Gillen on that tour.
We saw Glenn here in Dallas last summer, and it was the best show I've seen in ages. For a guy in his 70s, and after all that abuse (which he acknowledges on stage), he gave us a wonderful evening of Deep Purple Mark III/IV (with "Highway Star"). Amazing band, and we actually had a few minutes with the drummer afterward. I was hoping Glenn would come out and I'd get the opportunity to say "Well, the last time I saw you was in Detroit in '86, and things didn't go well, but tonight ... ?"

@@QuarrellaDeVil I saw the Ray Gillen show in Atlanta. Great show, smaller venue (Atlanta Civic Center) than was originally planned (Fox Theatre). If my memory is correct, WASP opened that one. Ray was a great front man. Kinda wished he had hung on longer.

    • @QuarrellaDeVil
      @QuarrellaDeVil Месяц назад +1

@@erickandsuzanne High fives. We arrived for Sabbath only, but WASP definitely opened and ISTR that Armored Saint was on the bill. Yeah, I'd have liked to have seen Ray Gillen, too, and it's unfortunate he's not around to tell us what he was thinking with that departure. Funny thing is that Tony kinda lost me with "The Eternal Idol". Decades later, I think Tony Martin's problem was that he wasn't a big name like those who came before him, and I did return to the fold when "Tyr" was out (big Norse mythology fan that I am). Oddly, I think that one had his best performance, having to stretch his voice a bit, but the Ray Gillen version was great, too.

It's curious how Tony Iommi used different guitar tunes such as E standar in the beginning, Db (C#) in Master of Reality to Sabotage, Eb (D#) in the Dio and Tony Martin albums, D in Born again, but in this one sounds like between D and Eb something like 429Hz
