Great video. I hate having this argument with people about wood fuel quality. You burn trash wood, you get trash heat. 😓 4 cords seems like alot till February comes around. Always save your best wood for the coldest months. Can't wait to see the the video on wood stove maintenance and safety! Great series!

Great points, and great idea on the stove. I’ll probably include cleaning the chimney and stovepipe as part of it.

I’m in SE CT. 4 cords is a reasonable average to shoot for. Been burning for about 10 yrs. Burned 5 cords only once several yrs back when it was cold and LONG winter.

Yes sir. Type of wood and type of appliance can affect things greatly. I remember that winter. I bet you’re referring to 2015-2016

I think it was that year. The month of March may as well have been January. I remember chiseling out the last bit of wood at the time from ice/snow in my yard on a hill. Not fun.

@@stevewaz4 Yes sir. Lots of snow and it stayed frigid for months on end with very little melting between storms. Lots of roof collapses during that time. It was a crazy year. We had some real good winters in the 2010-2016 era.

We still use BTU's but a lot of people over here now quote energy in KW. I like the chart you posted, very useful. Thanks for the great information

Thanks Case. Do you mix soft woods with your hard woods when you burn at your house.

I often do mix in Pine. Especially during shoulder seasons. Now with the mill I’ll be saving more of it for lumber though.

In my home state of WV, the DHHR just announced a program for emergency heating needs for those on permanent disability/low income. We became a provider for them this season and man are we busy. Rural area, lot of people burn wood, but I’m always amazed how few have a clue about a “cord” or moisture content, or btus etc. They have been buying a “load” or some other non specific term and getting ripped off. They will put crap wood that isn’t seasoned in their stove all day, but then they all think Pine is the devil no matter what lol And of course it’s the most abundant species of wood down here is Virginia pine lol People will give it away or pay you to come and get it off their property. I have cords of it just sitting that I can’t give away, so we just burn it ourselves to get the fires going. Great starter wood, light, low total btu, but burns hot and fast and lights super easy provided it’s seasoned fully. Really enjoying the content, thanks for a great channel!

Cool channel! More info needs to get into peoples heads haha. People know very little about the details of burning wood which is everything when it comes to firewood 🪵

Absolutely. It’s all pretty logical/common sense stuff. Lots of new wood burners this year, and I know many of these folks are going to quit after getting unsatisfactory results from poorly seasoned wood, and not realizing it’s a way of life that entails a lot of hard work.
