- Caution for ATF used under WARRANTY Please read:
If you are still under warranty use the Hyundai SPIII OEM transmission fluid as
not to void the warranty if they try to use it against you. As for the Dexron 3 Supertech another user made a note this fluid is not acceptable. Upon further research I decided to purchase Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle ATF as on the back of the bottle it supports All imports with the Diamond spIII specification. Even though I ran supertech from 45,000 klm to 103,000 klm without problems I flushed it out with the Diamond III specification. So there you go. Go OEM if under warranty, or youcan buy the Castrol Import MultiVehile ATF Diamond SPIII compatible ATF fluid.
To maintain a healthy transmission Hyundai recommends every 48,000 klm you change your transmission fluid. Today I will show you how to drop your transmission pan and change your metal filter as well as refill your transmission fluid. This is part 1 of 2 parts. In part 2 you will learn how to flush the transmission cooler and torque converter. Thks guys enjoy........

for 2 5 quart jugs and 2 single quart bottles. That's all you need to do a complete flush.
You can google the PDF DATA sheet if you want. You can get this product at Canadian tire in Canada or any walmart in north America:

It seems you uploaded this video just as I was looking for information on servicing my Accent transmission. How awesome is that. Thank you very much for publishing such a wonderful detailed instructional video. When might Part 2 be available? I'm sure you're working on it now. Can't wait! Thanks again for such a great job.
At first I couldn't understand why you are removing the battery and the tray to flush transmission fluid. I had '03 Elantra. The oil cooler lines were right in front behind the radiator and they were easily accessible. I didn't need any special tools. I bought a perfect size of plastic tube from Home Depot and tapped it directly into the supply line without any adapters and flushed fluid. I had driven my Elantra for 330,000 miles until last November until I hit a deer and totaled it. I never had any transmission problems. Now I bought 2010 Elantra and I tried to flush transmission fluid last week. I found out that Hyundai changed the design. I had to remove the battery and the tray like your 2009 Accent. Your detailed educational video will help me a lot. Thank you for your posting.
I found a measuring bucket from Walmart at paint department. It was around $3, so you don't have to cut the jug.
I drained 4 qts of fluid after I removed the drain plug from my '03 Elantra and I used 5 qts of fluid for flushing. Total capacity: 8 qts. It didn't have a filter, so I didn't need to drop the pan.
No problem. Glad to help
Half the time with you say “filter”, you mean “gasket”. Good video!
Thanks man! Great part 2 video. I'll be doing this soon. Appreciate what ya do!
Thanks for the tips.. Made flushing my Sonata 2010 GLS fairly easy. However, the pan is mounted vertically and don't believe it is possible to remove it without tearing out a ton of stuff. Also, when I connected the adapter to the supply line (intake) I had fluid coming out of the connector to which the supply line connects. I had to attach a hose to this and drain it in a separate bucket. Made a bit of a mess at first. Didn't expect fluid to be coming that direction.
Great video. Well done mate.
Part 2 on Thursday.. Friday this week, truck driver home on weekends
Great video! Thank you so much for posting. I think I must of missed something though. How exactly is the adapter being hooked up? You disconnect the inlet hose from the trans and connect the adapter there instead. What do you do with the hose you disconnected coming from the radiator? Can you go over exactly how everything is connected? Thank you
the disconnected hose goes into the bucket with the 2 litre measurement on it close to the door to WATCH the LEVEL of the fluid coming out so you do not drain it dry.
Just did this job. That pink stuff was a jerk to get off, including breaking the pan free. Thanks for the wonderful video. VERY helpful as always! Used your coolant vid too, did that today as well. Balljoints and tie rods on deck tomorrow. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
How did you get it to break free? I cannot get it and I’m scared pry on it.
@@travis6996 I used a pry bar very carefully and took my time. It took some pressure but it popped off.
i wont recomend flushing your transmission. Just change fluid and dont recomend to use walmart fluid brand. I usually use valvoline for my transmission fluid change.
too late.
The drain and refill method is the best. It gives time for your transmission to adjust to the new fluid. Drain the pan only and refill it. Drive the car a 1,000 miles and drain and refill the pan again. Repeat this a few times until all the fluid is replaced.
You can get at those hoses under the lower radiator hose by removing the lower radiator hose.
Due to weather the clamps may break removing them! This is why I did this from the dry area above tranny.
Check out my site custom tools section on the transmission flush kit adapter and once you make one of those you just push the end into the hose and thats it. Once its flush remove the flush kit adapter and your done. This connections are cheap and can be picked up a home hardware, lowes you name it. I gave you the exact fitting sizes and hose sizes in the video.
Do you need to add RTV silicone over the paper gasket? both sides.
Is Valvoline Maxlife atf okay? It mentions SP-III various times. It says Hyundai SP-III, Chrysler Diamond SP-III, KIA SP-III, and Mitsubishi Diamond SP-III. I'm probably being extra paranoid. (I mean it says Hyundai SP-III so it must be compatible right?)
Perfectly fine.....
Thanks i figured. It was probably a stupid question lol. Your videos are very helpful thanks for making them!
Have a 2008 Hyundai Accent. The transmission fluid is actually turning grey. In your opinion would you still say flushing is a safe thing to do for the transmission ?
+Not Sure Yep! flush it out. When it looses its red color it will turn grey and smell bad! This means the protective agents in the fluid are gone and its time to get rid of it. Use diamond sp3 if your transmission is automatic. If your ot sure you can look in your owners manual for the correct fluid.
***** thanks for the fast reply. Its just I have heard from some people that you shouldn't flush out the transmission because the cleaning agents will dissolve the seals. Was wondering if you have heard that
Not Sure The flush I do is safe. done this twice and my car is still great at 121,000klm. When a flush is done do not add that extra chemical in the transmission. Just use ATF SP3 fluid. Simple.... As for the back flush method Hyundai uses I've read horror stories about the transmissions slipping and sticking in gears after this is done. My method uses the transmission pump to clean out the torque converter and radiator cooler. Measuring the amount helps you not run the transmission dry so its a controlled flush that one person can do. Anymore questions please ask.
i just did 2 drain on my accent 2009 and i was worried about that too. funny thing is only 2 litter came out of the pan and not 3.5l like in the video. Anyway, my car has 200 000km and the fluid was just black and never been changed and decided to go with a drain to see how it runs first. i drained 2l of the pan then added 2l of new original oem fluid and it ran great no problem with it and actually helped. i drained another 2l and added 2l of new fluid, the color is now brownish pink but i noticed that the transmission is shifting better and had no problem with it so far. i will repeat the process another 2 or 3 times until most of the color has turned pink and will change the filter on the last drain. I will do a complete flush like shown in this video 50 000km after. Im just too scarred to break my tranny with all the horror story ive read about how you can break your tranny if you change the fluid of a car that has never been changed. So far it helped my tranny and it shifts better than it was before. My neihbor is a mecanic's working at toyota for over 20 years and he told me that he sees a lot of taxi drivers going into his garage with cars over 300 000km with original tranny fluid black as a black hole and they always changed the fluid and always helped the tranny tremendously, never heard or saw a broken tranny after changing the tranny oil throught repeated drainage. hope this helps
it's actually weird, i drained my pan twice last week end and only 2L came out only. 2L came out the second time as well. car has 200 000km and oil never been changed so i was scarred of doing the complete flush and decided to go with repeated drainage over a period of a month instead. it was overfilled by almost an inch originally so i was a bit surprised to see only 2l coming out only
2 litres will be limit to dain the pan. Just did mine a couple months ago and used that jug. If you slightly go over the 2 litremark you will start to suck air. If you feel uneasy goto 1 litre mark and fill. Just means you will be mixing old fluid with new. I did suck air a bit as I went over the mark but shut the car off right away
Filled and was perfect. This isy third time and my car runs and shifts beautiful. I did not change the filter this time.
i drained and added a total of 4l so far, ill change another 4l over this month, should have around 70-80% new liquid with around 20% old liquid left, wich is fine with me and a lot better than 100% pitch black burnt oil :P
Well done
I did this flush with Valvoline MaxLife™ Multi-Vehicle ATF is a full synthetic and I have had no problems yet it says it meets the Hyundai Sp-ll sp-lll sp-lv sph-lv I find that the transmission get's hot on hot days on long highway drives so this synthetic works well under the heat. The OEM dealer fluid is not the best it breaks down really fast and heats up easy.
Here is the link to the stuff I got for my accent
www.valvoline.com/our-products/automatic-transmission-products/maxlife-multi-vehicle-atf
Could also just install an aftermarket transmission cooler.
Why dont you just get those crush washers at Princess Auto ...they got a box full of them 😆
I have an 08 accent gls automatic, and I was told by my local dealership that I should never flush the transmission because of the filter they use. I should only drain and refill. Not sure if there is a difference between 08 and 09 or CAN/US requirements.
07,08,09 are the same. Hyundai uses a machine to back flush. They never replace the filter. If you feel any doubt about doing this pay the dealer. Ive dne this 2 times now and had a smooth transmission shifts. Cars at 127,000 now
Where the supply connects to the radiator is it bottom or top ?
Bottom. I suggest do it at the transmission. if you break it your talking a new rad!
This transmission needs Genuine SPIII ATF or at least an equivalent. Dexron III ATF does not have the proper friction properties.
read video description......
Hı,thank you man.what is code filter?Please help me.from turkey.
Thanks for the video. I have a 07 Hyundia so i'm assuming its the same.
Yes it is. Levels for fluids and type are located in your standard owners manual. Standard transmissions use different fluid! As forthe flush the way I show will work on all Hyundai's. They all have in out cooler lines. The pan holds 3 litres so flushing 2 litres at a time is safe. As for torque specs pan and filter bolts are the same. Hope this answers your question.
I have a 09 Hyundai Accent gls and it’s got about 104,000 miles and I really am nervous about doing a drain and fill what’s ur thoughts on this I just bought it a few months ago and fluid is a lil dark it doesn’t have no burnt smell but I’m scared don’t want transmission to start slipping
Does the vehicle have maintenance records
@@gereral1_jackofalltrades no it doesn’t so I’m not sure if it’s ever had a drain and fill done I want to keep up on the maintenance so I can get the most out of my car/ transmission
These are your options Hyundai and do backsplash system drop the pan and change the filter put in his fluid C drain what's in the pan and fill just that which is half of the fluid
@@gereral1_jackofalltrades so basically ur saying just do and drain and fill I drain whatever comes out the pan and put back that much with Hyundai sp111 fluid
thank you for the detailed information just wondering is this procedure fit for automatic accent 2005. 1.3 gls. the reason I am asking as I can't find the two hoses inlet and outlet. thanking you in advance
Your best bet is to ask on hyundai forums as they answer all types of questions on older vehicles. I know 06-11 use the same tech in their cars but 05 might have different system. If you cannot find your answer you could goto hmaservice or call hyundai dealer and ans ask them about the trans cooler hoses.
gereral1 just in regards to the fluid specification the delear told me that they have only ATF spa IIII (4). while he said on the manual recommend fluid is ATF sp II (2). He said I can use sp (4). is it more advance oil. but I am not happy from this as it's not a bout the fluid performance but about to met the recomnded specification. I will try to get alternative fluid that met SPA II. wondering Castrol AF multi would meet Spa II or just to go with hyundai ones with ATF SPA (4). thanking you in advance
Is this vehicle auto trans CVT? Havent been able to find this information.
ostinlt12 no
I have kia sportage model 2009 with engine 2000 ,i changed the fluid for automatic transmission when traveled 71000 km with German fluid its colour white because the mechanic man said your fluid car is white . Now i need to change the fluid because my car traveled 144000 km .Here we have fluid from kia type ATF SPIII and ATF SPIV .Which type the best
Oem fluid is the best. IF YOUR CAR SAYS SP111 DIAMOND compatible then any brand meeting the oe equivalant is fine. I use castrol now as stated in thr vidro description. Now done 3 tranny flushes and im good. Car has close yo 170000 klm. 7 years old
One of my favorite sites to look up oem hyundai patrts for my 2009 Hyundai Accent is www.jimellishyundaiparts.com/ After hitting this site I take the parts numbers to my local Hyundai dealer to order them for me. Recently I had someone at walmart take out my trim strip on my door. I order the 3 stips for 107 bucks and primed and painted them myself. Got to love the internet. Well im off to baltimore in my truck... post the remainder to this video by the end of the week
hi i have 2009 accent same like ur car its ok if i use ATF 3 dexron IIIH allison c-4 synthetic ...pls let me know thanx
Diamond 111 spec only! Look on back of bottle for this. Please read the video description. Thks
thanx a lot
You can use dextron v1 in the trans
Which oil fit castrol and shell?
vergidenmuaf make sure is says diamond iii. Don't matter the make.

So if I see a few metal fragments what then?
Small shavins are normal. Chunks means your transmission may run fine now but need a rebuild if it starts skipping gears
gereral1 thank you it's small nothing serious I got a question man the old sealant was cardboard material and it won't come off completely with a scraper any tips to get the rest off?
David Willison if u can you can buy a paint steipper tip for drill that will remove the gew or use only plastic scrapper.
gereral1 thank you if I only have degreaser could I clean the pan out with that or no? I thought I had brake cleaner at home but no also I got most of the previous sealant off and it us flush but does it all have to be completely gone or just flush?
this is a boooring kind of video, tooo much talking
