After years of being forced to teach kids Nirvana songs, my guitar teacher came around to believing very strongly that Kurt Cobain knew more about guitar than people give him credit.
He very much did. It's very interesting to see in his music. Especially whenever you look at his solos or any of the material on Bleach or the Fecal Matter demo tape. I feel he had a basic understanding of the pentatonic scale as shown by the solo in Sappy
Crazy how Kurt wrote such a heavy sounding song in standard. You play it so well and with every bit of attitude as the original. Your tone is spot on too. Awesome work!
From Nirvana's final single on Sub Pop comes a tense and furtive pop song in spite of itself, its squawking guitars and strangled vocals pushing up against a smooth, almost buoyant bassline, Chad Channing's steady drums, and the clean production of Nevermind producer Butch Vig, who the band was working with for the first time. In 1991 Sub Pop included the track on the label compilation The Grunge Years, which - in keeping with its penchant for in-jokes about "world domination" - had a pair of important businessmen doing something resembling a big deal on the cover. That compilation's implied irony would come full circle a few months later, when the video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" would debut on MTV. Tuning: Standard Equipment used: Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang, Boss DS-1 and Fender Mustang IV amp. Lyrics: Oh! Pick me - pick me yeah Live alone, lone single At least, at least yeah Everyone is hollow Pick me - pick me yeah Everyone is waiting Pick me - pick me yeah You can even pay them Hey [x2] Dive [x3] Dive in me Dive in me [x3] Kiss this, kiss that yeah Live alone, lone single At least, at least yeah You can be my hero Pick me - pick me yeah Everyone is waiting Hit me, hit me yeah I'm real good at hating Hey [x2] Dive [x3] Dive in me Dive in me [x3] [x3] Dive [x3] Dive in me Dive in me [x6]
Damn, thought I'd catch you slipping in the chorus!! But, you nailed it. Thanks for the video man! Again, I'm only saying this cause you know Kurt's style and play the tunes the way he did. In the beginning he doesn't slide up to the high E on the 7/9, he drops to the low E like the verse. Dude was all index and middle fingers... and the ring just for the power chords. Now, gotta check out how you play the chorus of Heart Shaped Box. You legit made a boring evening fun as hell for me!
Excellent job as expected! Have you ever considered buying one of those Randall RG120 combo's? That or a Sunn Beta Lead combo really put a person into the sound&vibe of the late 80's early 90's live Nirvana tone.
I don’t know if you already do this, but you should definitely write your own music. You have a guitar style very similar to Kurt’s and it would be very interesting to see new songs in that style.
Your page is the coolest on the whole FB. Cool work ! . Everything is orderly and well filmed. Correct positioning of the left hand. You take the chords exactly as Kurt did. Everything is absolutely correct and identical !!Best wishes from Moscow (Russia)
very good , iam french and i like your cover.thanks to has you j learnt a lot of title of nirvana. Is this possible to make a video of your pedal material(equipment) and ampli? Thank you for advance good continuation.
Oh, sorry I missed that! Loving that Mustang! Feel free to check out my channel, if you're up for it. Either way, looking forward to what you come up with next!
Greetings from indonesia.......very nice mustang.....please handle with care.... Can you help answer my question? What brand single pickup coil for his Mustang (red fiesta and sonic blue)......did kurt use seymour duncan or fender vintage?...thanks before and after for your answer....
Yeah we have a completely different amp but those are just the settings i use to get a pretty accurate sound :p I use a 1998 Crate GX-15R, it's a weird and cheap amp kinda shit but it gets the job done
Tom hello i'm again hahah ehm i have a question so how often you make mistakes while playing? I everytime think that when i play drain you for example than is had to be 100% correct and sometimes it work that i play 100% but i play drain you over and over day for day and when i'm doing mistakes i'm really frustraded so and my question is do you can play a song over and over without any mistakes?
I would say that most of Nirvana's songs I can play several times without doing any mistakes, but this has not always been the case. Before I got more serious about my playing I tended to do more mistakes, but I guess that's natural. The better you are at playing the less mistakes you do.
Tomnedreb is a mistake for you when you make a powerchord with three fingers and you touch all right but the pinky you have on the fret metal dont know the name for that lol
Dude, don't worry so much about mistakes. Just play with passion. I've watch a cover of Drain You the other day and this guy plays it very well, but with no passion at all. It was the worst cover I've ever seen. I might as well have watched paint dry.
I don't see any problems using a signature model if u like that guitar. Most of them are quite versatile instruments, so not a problem to play anything you like. But if u have the time and effort to change pick-ups etc on your "own" that can be cool, so I guess it doesn't matter as long as you have fun and it sounds good.
Tomnedreb yeah you know the problem is just if you play a signature then you are just copying that guy in the eyes of people and that is what anoy me but thanks for the answer:)
Thank you, I possede a jag-stang microcomputing seymour sh4 and dimarzio dp174 .je am has the search(research) d an ampli fender voucher which sounds cobath.
Tomnedreb she's 21 months old! She's a little trooper. Love it so much. She loves joining in on guitar with daddy. She called the guitar "ding" and likes to sit on my lap behind the neck of the guitar and strum! We lost a baby last August which put a black cloud on things for a long time. What's up with tje jagstang?
That's so cool. My oldest is turning 13 tomorrow, crazy how the years go by. Just enjoy it while u can man. The jagstang have some serious ground/buzz problem. Just a really bad sound until I touch the metal on it. I'll probably have to open it up and do some soldering work on the wiring.
On the chord I sent you, actually he's just putting his middle and index finger on the A string same fret and he's muting the E string and the D string at the same time in other words you got it right it's just he used his middle finger to mute also. imgur.com/50kMR7V
You must've misunderstood me he's muting the E and the D string by putting 2 fingers on the A string. So he plays notes on the A, G, and B strings everything else is muted.
This song is heavily underrated. Got to be one of Kurt's best compositions, in my opinion. And so much fun to play!
Highly agreed
Yeah I agree, it’s one of the best songs In the world in my opinion
Fuck yea dude!
Love this song! Hella energy on this cut
100% Agree. My second favorite is Lounge Act

And he was right!
He very much did. It's very interesting to see in his music. Especially whenever you look at his solos or any of the material on Bleach or the Fecal Matter demo tape. I feel he had a basic understanding of the pentatonic scale as shown by the solo in Sappy
Incesticide is SO underrated.
Incesticide and In utero are the best records they made
Crazy how Kurt wrote such a heavy sounding song in standard. You play it so well and with every bit of attitude as the original. Your tone is spot on too. Awesome work!
Kurt would dig this.
Well he did write it
Omar Rivera lmao
andrew oliver no shit it’s his song

@@TomnedrebExactly why it’s my favorite. Yep. Even over the popular ones that everyone knows. 😁
One of the best riffs ever written
Perfect Guitar cover
You should do the Demo version of Dive and play it like Jason Everman does
Spitfire Cider the best is so tight on the demo! My favorite version of it! 👍🏽

I recently bought a DS-1, I'm wondering what are your setting on there? I just love your tone.
There's more to it than just the ds1 but I'd set it all to noon and tweak o taste to be honest.
@@Mickocarbomb as someone who owns a DS-1 if you want a Saturated Nirvana tone you need the distortion on max

Nice cover, what tuning are you using?
Random question, seeing you're a big fan I'm surprised to see you don't bar the power chords like Kurt and specific reason?
cool!!
Very cool!
The style of the lyrics always reminds me of of the style of lyrics to “talk to me”
Good cover!

Tomnedreb thanks
Set your amps treble to around 2 or 3 O'clock and keep the bass pretty low around 9-10 o'clock and keep your mids at 12 o'clock

Hey man - are these re-shot versions of the old covers? There was nothing wrong with old ones!
Hey, Paul! Yeah, this one is a re-do and I beg to differ old one was sloppy and the bends all wrong. How things with you? Kid growing fast I bet.

I will surely consider something like that. Actually have some buzzing on my Mustang too.
I think we can all agree to love your covers, but you've gotta cover some new songs! Regardless keep posting! Cheers!
Gooooood
Good job tom, I guess Kurt was muting the 2nd string the whole time with his middle finger.
