I'm a licensed cosmetologist and work with natural hair all day. Natural Hair can take the heat of 450F. It will not damage the hair nor will it damage the curl pattern. The thing that damages the curl pattern is after your stylist styling your hair, and you going home and going over it. Some people just won't leave it along you don't have to keep putting heat to your hair. People do it when they wake up and at night when you go out. STOP!! Also get some steam treatments, where some protective styles and keep your ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks and you'll be fine.

Thank you for this. I only want put heat to my hair about once every two weeks and occasionally perm (longer than once every 6 months) and people tell me I'm doing it wrong, but my hair is beautiful and thick and lovely!

I may be late to say this, but natural hair in this case means the natural African/African-American hair, which is different in many ways from Caucasian or Asian Hair, as you may observe, and it requires different treatment and such.
