Bjj X Guard Entry from Half Guard

- One of my favorite positions in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is X Guard and Single X Guard.
It ties right along with my Half Guard too which I consider my best position.
In this video I answer a question from out friend who is wanting to look at some entries into X Guard.
And before I get into the X Guard position itself. I want to stress the importance of Entries for our BJJ games.
Oftentimes people look for the cool sweeps, guard passes, submissions, etc but then they forget about the entries to get there.
Consider entries the starting point for any position or set of techniques in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Now in this video I show a simple way to get to X Guard from a Half Butterfly Guard.
I use this a lot if I'm struggling to get the Half Guard working for me on bottom.

I've started training bjj 5 days ago and it's nothing like i was expecting. I was expecting to get completely destroyed by higher skilled guys, but instead everyone during sparring taught me a little trick of theirs or a new technique, and its been amazing so far. I'm mad at myself for pushing it back this long its absolutely amazing. If anyone is debating whether to give it a shot or not, just go for it higher belts are gonna be happy to help you!
@Crypto Ninja no, higher belts are helping you with your game. Lower belts are these how are to aggresive and bts out of you. The reason is, the most dont know better and yes some are just d...s and want to show how great they are.
Sounds like you are in a good and friendly gym just do not get out of line or else you be put into place with authority by the higher belts.
@Crypto Ninja basically, don't be a douche... If you go in and not pay attention, try to out do anyone who is trying to help you or be a pick about things, the upper belts will put you back in line via a nice heavy pressure roll.... You don't sound like that so you are good to go... Enjoy it, keep an open mind, have some pain meds ready and don't give up! Welcome to the brotherhood!

I have been working on how to get into SLX and X besides pulling guard and I’ve been getting into half guard a lot. Thank you for this can’t wait to try to get into those guards from half.

Definitely more entry videos.
I agree, I think having a higher entry to move ratio is ideal. Have less go to moves, but with a ton of entries.

Chewie, is it safer to go to Single leg X, or can I go straight to full x guard? Just wondering if SLX prevents them from mounting, then when position is stabilized you go to xguard? Let me know what you think, thanks!

2:07 What if your opponent puts his legs in a figure four to stop you from inserting hooks or single leg x? I get stuck there, but it is probably because my hip shovel is not strong enough.

Hey Chewy I started BJJ around 6 months 3x a week ago I am still your typical fresh white belt never was good at any sports as a kid, I always had to work twice as hard for the same results as my team or peers and was finally begin to see some improvements in class things started to make sense and then ran into an arm bar injury which has now put me out for 6 weeks a lot of guys who started with me just got their first strip I should be recovered and ready to restart in 2 weeks again, its been frustrating i am worried that I may have de progressed how do I do deal with this?

Buy a mat and ghost moves at home against no opponent. Go over stuff that was taught in class and choose some youtube concepts that makes sense to you, that you can actually use in live rounds... like getting out of Knee on Belly. You'll get used to moving your body and how a move should feel. I wouldn't waste money on the grappling dummy- that's what live rounds are for. Some guys make the mistake of chasing sneaky submissions early on (which typically work on other newbies, but not against advanced guys), but I think it's more worth learning how to positionally control the game.
