I have a similar version - also as you say, super comfortable. With the tyre tread sole and the EVA mid sole there is a lot of shock absorption. Apparently the material they use for the sole is actually for re-treading tires, which is another African tradition where people will sole there sandals with old tires.

I have these same boots (Afrique/Tyre sole). They are my favorite! I regret putting Hubert’s shoe grease on them to waterproof them and also I regret wearing them to work because it darkened the color and at work I wet them. They still look great but have some scuffs and patina now. I stopped wearing them for work and now I wear them for casual wear.
I’m really happy with mine too!
