We enjoy your videos! My brother in law are starting our own little land clearing and lumber company. We own a sawmill already and had a customer approached us and asked if we would clear 3 acres of small saplings and trees for a pasture. I work for a large heavy equipment dealer in SC and brother in is retired. So thank you so much for doing these videos!!! You are great source of information to help guys like us get started thank you very much again!! Geoff and Troy
I enjoyed the video and found your cometary very helpful. I’ve run smaller excavators but have never cleared land. I’m no expert by any means so it was good to see how someone approaches a project like this.
Happy to see some new content! No information is useless, everyone can learn something from anyone at any given point. Even though I know how to do this, I love watching other people so I can pick up tips and tricks I may not have figured out yet on my own.
I run heavy equipment too but I love watching let's dig 18 cuz he has a great way of dealing with trees especially when he folds them up to stack them.
I have Learned a lot watching your video's ! I enjoy your commentary ! I mostly started watch to learn how to use the box blade but enjoy the excavator also. I bought a LX 3310 and I have a backhoe for it so I try to apply some of your excavator technique even though I don't have the swing that you do. This is my first tract and I have been having a blast.
Great job! Yep, those multiheaded trees have rootballs that don't like to cooperate. That's my favorite kind of work right there. 👍 Well until I hit rock that is. LOL! Glad to see some videos from you again. I've been going to crazy to keep mine up so I can imagine you really have your hands full. Keep up the great work.
It's a pleasure to watch a Pro run these machines, such smooth operation and appreciate the commentary that really helps us novices. I just bought a 40,000 lb Cat 215B, hope I can learn to run it as smooth as you do. Thanks so much, keep up the videos...!!😁
I do appreciate the commentary because I'm trying to figure out how to run one of these to clear my own 2.6 acres out which is mostly Post oak and hickory with some burdock and Eastern redbud mixed in. Which makes it a little harder to push the stuff over so I needed to get an idea on how to do it and showing us how to dig around the roots to get the desired results was very helpful and I like the fact that when you tell us something especially if it's technical at all you tell us why it's necessary and how to do it so thank you very much new subscriber here
Thank you buddy for sharing your know how, believe me you are helping others by these videos. This the type of work im wanting to do, i was wanting to get a track loader and forestry mulcher but i still need a small excavator for the larger trees. Would a 10,000 pound excavator be able to clear trees this size? Im guessing i would have to dig at every stump and then push the tree over.
Awesome video. I like the commentary. I rent a Kubota U35 on Monday to clear an area for a 24x14 shed. Very helpful as this is the first time I will use a mini-excavator. My area is VERY similar to your job video as I live in Eastern NC. Good tips about getting some small pines and saplings out with their rootball.
How did your rental of the kubota and clearing of the trees go? I’m about to do the same this Saturday and hoping it won’t take me all day to just feel comfortable with the machine. I’m hoping to get it done in one day. The trees I’m clearing are 4-6” in diameter. Thanks
Thank you very much. I have 10 acres i have been clearing by hand and just bought a cat 304c cr. figured out at 62 i started a little late so bought the machine to help me out. Your video is highly educational.
I'm a newb and learning a lot from your video's. The commentary really helps; like why you go left or right of a tree etc. and how you think about the process. I wouldn't be learning near as much without it. I would enjoy a video with you just talking about what can and can't be done with the different size machines for what type jobs and stuff. Like if you do this professionally full time whats the ideal size to have?
I love that excavator, whatever it is. I can't wait to get one just like it. Obviously it's not a caterpillar so you may want to stalk up common replacement parts so you don't have too much downtime waiting for parts. 😀
@@WaltWW thinking back I remember he had trouble getting parts from his Yanmar dealer and that made him angry and he took the Yanmar name off of all his equipment! He didn't want to advertise for them anymore. The dealer didn't have the parts and couldn't get the parts to him for several weeks while his equipment sat there not making money. This is why some tractor owners purchase commonly replaced parts ahead of time. Especially heavy wear items. This guy chose not to have those parts in stock ahead of time and it cost him. And that's why he blames the dealership. People tend to get spoiled with cat because they can get parts almost instantly or overnight! In the past I have hurt said that some dealerships will take parts off a brand new equipment sitting in the yard to sell to people that are in a dire need for parts to keep the customer happy. Not sure which brand or dealership was doing that though.
That was cool to watch because most every move you made seemed right on to me, like I was watching myself. Just a fun process to do. My machine is smaller but still surprisingly capable. One of my favorite things to do.
running over trees. is always fun, used to run a fire plow dozer in VA. you can shear off a surprisingly large pine if you keep the blade at the right spot. Dont try it with an oak though... that just hurts when you stop suddenly.
I prefer commentary as it gives us a idea of why you are doing certain things as well as the benefits and dangers/warnings that come with each decision.
I have a KX040 and would like to grow and add small lot clearings bc i have so many calls for them but turn it away bc I'm pretty intimidated by "lot clearing" since I don't have experience. I'm not sure about root mat, etc. I don't want to leave a sloppy mess, as my business name is OCD Property Management. Any tips?
We bought a mini last fall and just got it operational. I had a very successful day mastering land clearing I taught myself to climb steep grade and felling trees away from the machine. Just crazy thinking how long it would of taken with a tractor or skid steer even though they are also great machines
Commentary is nice because you explain WHY you are doing what you are doing and why you are doing things a certain way. If people dont like it they can always mute and just watch
I need land cleared on my 40 acre property, at least an area big enough to build a cabin and have room to spare and enough sun for solar etc, and a road leading into it. Was trying to do it by hand but it's kind of futile without equipment. I never operated equipment before, do you think one could learn fast enough with a rental or is it best to hire it out? Even renting is quite expensive so if it takes me a week to do what a pro can do in a day it might be cheaper to hire out. On the other hand it would be fun to learn how to operate an excavator.
Another great job! When clearing land, what do you find is the best way to remove roots from the dirt without pushing so much dirt up along with the roots.
I am a recent new subscriber to your channel and have found it to be one of the most informative channels on the subjects covered. I am preparing to clear 60 acres of land that has had the marketable timber harvested. There is 10 acres that has been harvested with the intention of future lot development. The remaining 50 acres was "pattern" harvested where they harvested a 30 foot wide strip and skipped a 30 foot strip and then harvest the next 30 foot strip and so on. The intention is to come back in a few years and harvest the untouched strips. The 50 acres will be the owners "Estate" with a section in the middle graded out and developed for his home and the rest of the property left undeveloped. As you can imagine brush from the harvested sections is everywhere and laying in every direction. They of course left the stumps from the harvested trees, about 6 to 8 inches above the ground. My question is, given the size of the property what would you recommend as the best way to clear the property, forestry mulching or clearing with excavator and dozer? My thoughts are excavator and dozer for efficiency purposes and removal of stumps for development.
I'm in north dakota just starting up a land clearing business shelterbelts etc. I'm still trying to figure out how much to charge etc can you help a guy out on pricing?
If your in North Carolina then I have a question. I’m down in Statesville and wanting to start my own business doing what you do to make this short. So I have to have any license or anything special. I do have my cdl A’s. Thank you and I hope I hear back from you

Commentary is very helpful and makes the video much more interesting.
I am not a beginner but I always have loved watching other peoples techniques.
Thanks Raymundo!!!
Maybe this information is "useless" to some. But I personally want to thank you for all of the information you provided in this video.👍
My pleasure brother 🙏🏻
Good job Todd! People need to really understand how trees react to the forces you apply in different places with a large machine. Lots of danger!
Love your videos Todd. I watch them to learn. I appreciate the commentary, way more useful to me than just watching you operate with no explanation.
I enjoyed the video and found your cometary very helpful. I’ve run smaller excavators but have never cleared land. I’m no expert by any means so it was good to see how someone approaches a project like this.
Love the commentary. Keep up the great videos Todd! Glad to see you back.
I learned a lot! Thanks Todd!
Thank you for the "how to" style video. We are getting ready to rent a machine to finish clearing and prepping our house site. Very helpful!
This is a very educational video. Your tips and reasons for doing certain things is extremely helpful. Thank you !

I learned a lot from this video. Thank you.
enjoyed the video.... found it helpful as I'm about to rent one and clear out about an half acre ... thanks

Love the vid! Now to find one on the root rake you mentioned.
I have missed watching your videos. May God bless you and your family and business.

Enjoyed watching 👍
Thanks Wayne!!!
Exelent narration
I like the commentary. I like this type of work...transforming the land.
Hopefully as long as he keeps it looking natural and not man-made.
from the Netherlands thanks for the video
I like the commentary. very helpful.
Definitely like the commentary.
Love the commentary! Makes for a better video.

I see you got the extended wear version of tracks. Good call.
Great video... thanks!
Your videos are awesome
Really need to get some forestry guarding or at a minimum a ballistic front windshield and keep it closed. Great videos as usual.
Great video!!
Thanks!
I'm about to clear 2 acres of trees. Thanks for the video, it has put me at ease as this will be my first time doing this.
Take your time and be careful. Enjoy!!! That’s a big project for a first timer

Looks like a Yanmar Vio 80, Either painted over or the decals were removed.

Chris also uses Yanmar and Volvo excavators.
I like the background music when you put it on timelapse.
But some of us don't.
i like it great work and great tips!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching Justin
Yeah Todd the commentary is helpful

Love the comintary. I have learned a ton from watching 👀and listening to your broadcast.
Good to see you back.

Well Todd, I ordered a new excavator and turned in my papers at the fire department. I got a lot to learn but you teach me in my native language.
I hope the family and new baby are doing well.
I like commentary.
Root rippers are well worth their money. 👊
Todd I like you talking that’s how I learn

Very good info in your broadcast. Its always fun to see the excavator at work. What model excavator is that.
Thank you for the info.
Yanmar Vio 80
I loved your video but I was wondering, what is your one-day minimum
Hi Todd good seeing you on here today
🙏🏻👍
How did you make decision to start an excavation business? An was it a scary proposition?
What size excavator is that 18,000lbs?
Just posted a video to my RUclips channel of my 1 ton excavator paired up with a TMK150 tree sheer. Crazy how well it worked for clearing trees!
I’ll try to check it out
Hello
What hp is your mini ex?
Great instructions and wow great skills! Thank youuuuuuuu
Wasn't sure what to rent dozer or excavater
Now I know 👍

Shoot i want one now. Lol. I am fixing to rent one to build four rv pads.
What does it cost per day to rent an excavator this size? Or even a 30,000 lb excavator?
How much does a excavator like this cost normally? Or do you rent them to do the jobs?
