Hey bud. I want to thank you for your videos. I'm in Phoenix, AZ and your videos inspired me to start my own excavation, grading, demolition, and clearing biz. I literally started my biz on March 1st and my phone is ringing nonstop. We have a little John Deere 1025R. Small little tractor. Got it for a dirt removal jobs. We are a junk removal business but we offer dirt/concrete removal also. Saves a lot of labor and time. 1 man can remove 20 tons in 2 days. Before it would take more labor and about 3/4 days by hand.
Great video! I do this very thing as a side hustle. I've had a lot of success in only 2 years. Paid for truck and 2 trailers now I'm working on paying off my tractor. Having the ability to do tractor work has opened up a whole new line of opportunity. Thanks for what you do! I
I really enjoy the content. I’m looking to retire from the military soon and hoping to start doing exactly what you were saying like brush hogging, driveway repair and other small jobs to supplement my retirement. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Love your videos, I've been thinking of starting a driveway repair and property management company. I've been repairing driveways and brush hogging and tilling for neighbors and friends my whole life and always did it for fuel and a few bucks cause I never new how to charge or bid properly, and your videos have really enlightened me. Thanks and keep up the good work on the video.

Enjoy your videos. Got interested in heavy equipment late in life. Have owned small tractor for a few years, recently bought a mini excavator. Still working to get comfortable with it. Your videos are a great help. Live in eastern NC, also blessed to own home and property in Tuckasegee NC, near Sylva.
You're such a likable person. I'm looking to buy a mini excavator with 30k in hand. I'm hoping I can find a pretty decent one. Then I'll buy a dump truck and track loader. I used to be an underground pipe layer after high school and then a dirt heavy equipment operator for a few years then for the last 16 years I've been operating mobile cranes in oil refineries. I'm ready to do some jobs on my own. Thank you for your videos they're really encouraging and inspirational.
I have a New Holland LV80 we bought used to work our 5 acre property. I wish I had seen your video's before I spent 100's of hours teaching myself how to use the Gannon box.
I just started working at a game ranch as an extra hand. The guy I work for pays me peanuts and mostly has me working with hand machines but today I got to brush hog and operate a skid steer. I see him taking on other jobs, he's currently digging out an artificial lake with a track hoe and Im hoping if I stick around long enough I'll get to work my way up into the bigger machines. Anyways. Just found your channel and its really, really fascinating seeing all of this from a bosses perspective. Its invaluable, and I want to thank you for it.
I want to do a side hustle. I'm an install plumber (replacing sewer and water lines). I use a machine daily from 4k to 15k in size. What jobs can I offer and have a machine dropped off and picked up? Also what insurance should I get and what about a contractors license?
You're awesome Todd! The world needs more people like you. Both audio and video were great - except at the end when the mod wasn't used. Loved the content too... my wife was very interested as well!! Well done. God bless!
"Cheerios in a Bowl" haha. If you don't mind I'm going to use this one. I always explain to customers that putting gravel in a hole will not last. You have to break up the original bed, and the potholes, so when new material is added, it all packs together. In Minnesota its called Class Five Gravel. Sand, stone and clay. Tailgate it out, drive on in and after a couple of rains, it's hard as blacktop. My box blade ($700) has paid for it's self many times over. Thanks for the video. Russ. Esko Minnesota (we have Frost Boils that need fixing every spring)
You are amazing. I just discovered you today. I really needed this education. Wish we could talk. I just retired and my goal is to make some money with my tractor. You got a new subscriber.
The old philosopher strikes again! Besides being an excellent contractor, you are an excellent teacher, explains the business in simple-to-understand language and a lot of common sense. You are so correct when you talk about making a profit with a pickup, a couple of bags of gravel, a shovel, and most of all - a positive can-do attitude, which you have in abundance. Best of all you emphasize the point that success doesn’t come instantly. You have start at the beginning and work your way up the business ladder, and before you can land the big jobs you have to land the small jobs. Sounds simplistic, but you’d be surprised how many people ignore this sound advice and end up cutting their own fiscal throats. Want to be a success? Then listen to this man. He’s offering you FREE advice, probably the only time in your business life you’ll get something substantial for free. Listen and learn. A small investment in time can pay big dividends.
I have my own business where I contract with state agencies for ROW maintenance and light construction. I've recently added a KX0-080 Kabota with a mulching head. I'm getting more work from civilians for this equipment than government. It's amazing what all is out there.

Thanks for the help man. I'm a tree climber with a small tree service in Vancouver BC. I got a Jon Deere 35d and a dump trailer last spring and have learnt alot watching you work.
I buy from the same quarry and recognized where you were driving. It was sad as I watched you drive through Swannanoa and knowing that most of that town was destroyed by Hurricane Helene.
The sound is great. Your teaching is superb especially for someone who knows nothing about this business. Hope to learn a lot from you and put it to good use. Cheers
After working out of town's 20 years I started Miller's grinding llc here locally in Asheville any pointers on a bidden jobs it's very much appreciated I'm bidding a bunch of jobs but I aint getting very many been helping wheeler grading good friends of mine helped me alot getting started
One thing Ive always wanted from a young age, is to be my own boss. I figured excavation would be a good way to go about that. I just turned 20 about 2 weeks ago, I’ve been a construction laborer for going on 2 years now making $32 an hour. I’m not the happiest with what I do for a living, seemingly how I went to welding school. I got into the laborers union because it pays more than what a welder with 3 years experience in my area. Anyway, this video has gave me a tremendous amount of confidence in being able to be my own boss. One question I’ve got is, when I first start out. Should I pull the trigger on getting an LLC, and insurance and things like that if I’m just starting out doing driveways, or small simple things like that? Retaining walls, small things of that nature? Or should I wait until things grow a little bit?
Like I said in your live feed last night I'm going to bid my 5th driveway job at 11am tomorrow they have all been from word of mouth so guy's do the best you can every time and don't try to retire off 1 job
sound quality is great, I'm in the Septic and light Grading business just down the hill from you in Morganton I really enjoy your videos and positive attitude. Be safe out there😎

Just watched my first video of yours. Great content, great presentation, great attitude. My wife suggested we begin an earthworks business ( I’ve done all huge amount of different work in the trades including heavy equipment operations) as a retirement business and I’ve been doing some research. Man I'm starting my own excavating business, and I'm in the mountains of n.c. which is crazy! I've worked equipment my whole life so I just wanna get out on my own. I would like to pick your brain sometime. Thanks for the videos and it's helped me out allot.
I have no experience with machines but I really wanted to learn how to work with machines and do excavation. I have a driver's license and I live in Worcester, Massachusetts.
I do watch a lot of these RUclipsrs channels but I am only a sub to your channel because you really help people and give them confidence in themselves that they can start their own business too!..Your a good honest and sincere man!.. God Bless you and your family....By the way, I love mm's with my coffee too!!..😂
I live right across the mtn here in tn, and there's no way I would pay, nor do I know anybody that would pay any where close to 450 for someone to drive a car in, whip out a couple 5 gallon buckets and fill a pot hole, or even several potholes. You would be very lucky to make 250 on an entire drive way WITH equipment, excluding material cost...
I been operating heavy equipment of all sizes and different kinds for 15years, but..my thing is trying to figure out how to start been wanting to start a property preservation business
Thank you, precisely what I needed to see. I want to start excavating but haven't done tons of digging or grade work. I do have a 1ton dump truck, baby tractor, old backhoe, a rotating laser and all the hand tools a guy could need. I just cant bring myself to tell folks I can do something for them but this, this I can confidently get moving and start the journey!
I just found your videos and I subscribed im trying to start my own bush hogging and add on to my business and your knowledge is helping me so much thank you so much im going to continue to watch you love how you break things down
I almost pulled the trigger a few months ago to break out on my own. But the payout wasn’t enough to cover cost for insurance. It was a 48 acre clearing of everything 6” or minus. A company was awarded the job for 12k. Which my numbers were about 25k so I still gotta figure out my numbers and get them right before I make the jump to buy insurance.

I’m trying to learn as much as I can about tractor work as I’ll eventually need one for mowing, grading, and general homestead work. Your videos have been super helpful and I thank you for that. God bless!
Great to hear!!! It really makes the work that goes into this channel when I get comments like yours!!! Best of luck🙏🏻
Much better audio (in this video at least). Great tip on how to identify new business. It’s amazing how much work is all around you if you just look.
I do land clearing and bush hogging in Randolph County North Carolina and I enjoy your videos. 😎
Thank you for sharing your prices with us! I am in Tennessee and have started my second career in life in forestry mulching and excavating. I absolutely LOVE it! It is great to have someone like you giving advice and helping with prices. No joke, I am always eager for your next video to come out so I can see what you did for the day. lol You have a great attitude even when things don't go your way which is rare these days. Be sure to make time for your family though. God, Family, work. In that order. Thank you!
What part of TN? I just bought a skid and am looking for more ideas on the types of jobs I can do with it.
In Tennessee looking to work with machinery myself in my own business. Career changes as well. We need to network together. Good perspective. God family work.
@@kentleitch2872 I have the same respective and I am in East TN, how's you progress going? I'm applying for a general labor position with a small excavation company, I hope to learn the ropes and move over to equipment and possibly start my own small excavation business, not really for the money just for stability and more freedoms, I used to be a welder and I seriously need a career change, I graduated with the highest grade in my welding class in college and it's been so hard to find and keep a job, and you know how most people's conception of a welder is good money? Lies well atleast if you actually want a home life and a Monday through Friday job and be home in the weekend and evening you're looking at 17 to 20 an hour with a 30 minute commute not that grand, but I've found that really I just wanna be my own boss and that's kinda just the direction the Lord has sent my heart, so wish me luck I'm only 23 and have two children and a wife and my dream is to have a business that I can pass to my son one day because he loves heavy equipment and construction.
@@dirttrackdevil1149 just dropped 8k on repairs for my new/ used quad axel. But major or the major and minor on the minor. 8k to have the truck running again making money. I'm also glad to see you have God as your focus. Wherever He Leads, go! He will guide you.
Hey bud. I want to thank you for your videos. I'm in Phoenix, AZ and your videos inspired me to start my own excavation, grading, demolition, and clearing biz. I literally started my biz on March 1st and my phone is ringing nonstop. My friend owns property out in the desert and I was able to play with my 2017 Cat 301.7D for a full day until I got the controls figured out. Watching your vids helped me bid jobs and land them! I'm from NC and next time I come home, I owe you and your wife a steak on me (because I'm certain she's the behind the scenes of your operation! )! Thanks again bud!
Thats awesome!!!! Keep after it!!!!
You have a very genuine and friendly disposition. I appreciate the content and willingness to help beginners. It really is helpful. Well done!
Great video!
I do this very thing as a side hustle. I've had a lot of success in only 2 years. Paid for truck and 2 trailers now I'm working on paying off my tractor.
Having the ability to do tractor work has opened up a whole new line of opportunity.
Thanks for what you do!

Thanks does commenting!!!! I’m stoked that it’s going so well for you!!!
Thanks for doing this video buddy. Ur doing great. Ur teaching all of us alot of great information.
Great info for the younger crowd. Start somewhere and keep working on your business. It’s difficult to find good service these days
Positive+Upbeat+Motivating. I needed that. Your future looks bright.
I really enjoy the content. I’m looking to retire from the military soon and hoping to start doing exactly what you were saying like brush hogging, driveway repair and other small jobs to supplement my retirement. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Hi there from ONTARIO CANADA....Absolutely love your channel..have been following you and your business...i have started a small excavtion road repair business too.. i find your knowledge and explanation of proceedures invluable..keep up the great channel and enunciate!,,,,lol Pete
Thanks for watching David🙏🏻
2:50 I look back to the start of my company... this is exactly where I began. I still have my first mattock and I swear that thing has had the best return on investment of any tool I've owned to date. The biggest companies in the world often had humble beginnings. PUT IN THAT WORK! 💪💪
Yes sir!!!
I’m starting with landscaping and then hopefully in 1-3 years I’ll be getting into excavation/construction
I have not watched enough of your videos to judge if the sound has improved.
I think its coming through well.
Awesome tutorial Todd. I know it’s a older video but I trying to watch all your videos.
By gosh i believe U have a hit channel my teacher diggin21 ....Thank You!

Using a blower to remove the water! Great tip!!
Thanks for watching
@@DigginLife21 Good channel. I do a little tractor work around where I live. Lots of good tips and info here.
Audio was great. I always like how you explain everything.
Thanks for the kind words Edward. I'm just trying to put out there what I wish had been available to me when I got started
@@DigginLife21 Well, you’re doing a helluva job. Keep it up. People getting into the business need you, whether they realize it or not.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing the how tips with just hand tools, I might actually give it a try to stay busy for the winter time
One thing Ive always wanted from a young age, is to be my own boss.
You'll never succeed till you never fail. I'm at that point. Nursing background here. Health field sucks after coveed.
Just bought a Massey Ferguson 50ex with a Gannon box blade, I plan on making a few dollars on the side
Like I said in your live feed last night I'm going to bid my 5th driveway job at 11am tomorrow they have all been from word of mouth so guy's do the best you can every time and don't try to retire off 1 job
Best of luck Scott!!!
Great, honest, advice with high integrity! Quality of the audio & your advice is amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
sound quality is great, I'm in the Septic and light Grading business just down the hill from you in Morganton I really enjoy your videos and positive attitude. Be safe out there😎
hi there brother, im in plans to build my small business by starting with getting me a small class 1 hino tipper just doing backfill and small concrete jobs..giving myself 5 years as of now to begin to invest in that. i work for a company in nz called unison with civil construction, just getting all my licences atm i only have class 1,2 and wheels tracks and rollers/folks ans dangerous goods licence. hopefully in 5 years times by then i should have a good enough business plan. im glad i found you, your awesome mate thank you for your experiences and great advice.
Just watched my first video of yours. Great content, great presentation, great attitude. My wife suggested we begin an earthworks business ( I’ve done all huge amount of different work in the trades including heavy equipment operations) as a retirement business and I’ve been doing some research. Your channel has struck a note that I feel will be very beneficial. I also want to subscribe, like and comment to help you grow. I believe that you should always support those that help you and as you climb life’s hills you should also help others that are climbing those hills too. You never know what kind of a difference you make in others lives! I look forward to doing a deep dive into your channel, keep up the great work and thank you for all your hard work!

Can you give us a link to the GoPro mod upgrade please?… so we can buy it.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Coffee and M&Ms; that's good. Also, chocolate chip cookies and coffee is another good combo.

Man I'm starting my own excavating business, and I'm in the mountains of n.c. which is crazy! I've worked equipment my whole life so I just wanna get out on my own. I would like to pick your brain sometime. Thanks for the videos and it's helped me out allot.
I just started watching your channel I'm impressed 👍
Hey been watching and did my first driveway last weekend, 2501 and a box blade. Keep it up👍
Awesome!
I have no experience with machines but I really wanted to learn how to work with machines and do excavation. I have a driver's license and I live in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Sounds good! Like always, I appreciate you being so open and putting things in terms I can understand. Have a good’un and stay safe!
You too pal!!!
I have a kubota svl 75 and I’m wanting to learn more about using it for work. I’ve moved like brush piles around and stuff like that nothing hard.
I do watch a lot of these RUclipsrs channels but I am only a sub to your channel because you really help people and give them confidence in themselves that they can start their own business too!..Your a good honest and sincere man!.. God Bless you and your family....By the way, I love mm's with my coffee too!!..😂
Sound quality is much improved, thank you!
Great to “hear”😁
I live right across the mtn here in tn, and there's no way I would pay, nor do I know anybody that would pay any where close to 450 for someone to drive a car in, whip out a couple 5 gallon buckets and fill a pot hole, or even several potholes. You would be very lucky to make 250 on an entire drive way WITH equipment, excluding material cost...
We Thank you for your time!!!
GOD bless you and yours😇😁😇
You are so welcome

I been operating heavy equipment of all sizes and different kinds for 15years, but..my thing is trying to figure out how to start been wanting to start a property preservation business
Thank you, precisely what I needed to see. I want to start excavating but haven't done tons of digging or grade work. I do have a 1ton dump truck, baby tractor, old backhoe, a rotating laser and all the hand tools a guy could need. I just cant bring myself to tell folks I can do something for them but this, this I can confidently get moving and start the journey!
Start small and keep going!!! Best of luck!!!

Wow. Even if it were sparse $12k doesn't seem right. You may be getting called to finish that job.
Thanks for the video, I’m one of those guys that plans to do compact tractor work in about a year and these help the learning process.
Thanks for the video. I subscribed and am trying to start my tractor business in my area. Bought for my land but I hope to leave my daily job.
