This is one of the most informative and enlightening treatments of this atrocity I’ve ever heard. Answered many questions for myself, as well, I’m sure, for many others. Thank you for covering this, and thank you, Richard and Barbara, for your talent and hard work! May all whose hearts ache over this tragedy find healing and peace.
I am now in part 7 of the book and have been moved by the deep investigative telling of this horrific tragedy. Your writing is compelling as is your telling of the story with as little bias as possible. Honestly, I was a bit biased myself starting this book, feeling like an account of this history couldn't be accurately expressed by people associated with the LDS faith. I was wrong in that preconceived notion, but not without some level of justification as you will find in the pages of this book. LDS were often covering for each other telling tall tales and falsifying information regarding this horrific event. So congratulations on your intellectual honesty and your bringing forth this comprehensive work. It should be required reading by every person in Utah. This should be mandatory reading in high school as it is such a comprehensive history of the early days of the Utah territory. I discovered lots of new information and context in your book which sheds light on many aspects of our current day experience. The underlying fear of outsiders, tribalism and downright distrust of outsiders is evident in today's Utah culture and you've connected our history with rigorous scholarship and honesty. Congratulations and thanks for your very important contribution to all of us.
Are you aware of the religious bigotry that preceded this tragic event? Current religious bigotry causes rational fear? tribalism and distrust. The mountain meadows manicure(inexcusable) did not happen in a vacuum. In my Wife's and my Mormon ancestry(back to Palmyra) there are many stories of doing the right thing while being treated wrongly. All we can do is hold ourselves to that standard and fight reasonably when required. Make PEACE by reasonable means.
Brigham Young condemned all who participated. They were excommmunicated. Mormons were on the jury at the trial of The leader. They all voted guilty. The US Government executed the leader who ordered the deaths. Best to tell the truth.

This is one of the best videos I've seen. Thank you for how clearly you explained it. I am a beller. Beller's stand belonged to my 4th great grandfather William Beller. Minerva Beller Baker, Melissa Beller, and David Beller were my 3rd great grandfather's older siblings.
@@TheNightWatcher1385 You are right. However no one wants to hear how the leaders of the party who were killed had themselves killed innocent Mormons and threatened to did it again until every Mormon was dead.

The fact that Brigham Young did nothing to those involved in the slaughter of kids too and LDS revere this man, is just sick!
