Great video, but it's also useful to send a tone generator signal out through the chain so you can gain stage your inputs and outputs from all devices before processing your audio.
Absolutely.
I find it easier using sends and returns to a new channel for my external gear. Much less work but I am seeing that pipeline xt definitely gives much more waveform monitoring and latency control. Also, the ability to add a photo to be able have a visual reference for recall is very cool. BUT wouldn’t it be great if we were able to save photos for settings recall in the channel notes section as well - even if maybe a thumbnail icon that we could click on to open up the image so as to not take up too much real estate
This is great! The only problem I had beck when inset up my outboard delay was that it seems I needed to have the universal control mixer bypassed when using the 1824c interface. Otherwise there will be feedback. These video user guides have been a great idea 💡 👍
I just got analog gear for tracking and now it can be so much more. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad to help. -GBY
Dude! Thanks so much. Just got some gear to setup an analog mix bus and was wondering how hard it was going to be to route it. Should have known y'all had this solved already.
If you have a StudioLive 32 console remember that Universal Control has "Interface Mode" that will help with this sort of routing in a home studio with a StudioLive digital mixer.
Hmmm... So you could use this for real time re-amping? Guitar direct into interface > send to pipeline channel > mono interface output > reamp box > amp > UA Ox box > stereo interface input? Would that work? Do you need to send (after re-amping) from the pipeline channel to a new channel for editing and further processing? I'm intrigued.
Hello Gregor!
Thank you so much for your tutorials!
They are all excellent and very useful!
I recently bought the audio batch converter and I realized that there is no pipeline plugin included.
It would be nice if you add this plugin in the future
you cant fin pipeline in your software?
Thanks for the info. I was doing it without this and of course I had timing/phase issues. 🥇😎✌️
excellent... auch wenn ich in meinem Mini-Home-Studio kein externes Equipment habe... Cooles Feature.... Danke Gregor.
Always very interesting and helpful. Great integration of outboard gear and the DAW. Thanks.)
Hi Gregor, I have 2 questions. 1> how do you print your return audio to track. 2> do you have to have any special settings in Universal Control like bypassing the mixer, etc
Hi. At 4:59, you demonstrate the ping test. I am good with that. I am running four sources through Studio One. On a project, I will run the ping for each individual analog device. My question is: can I make a macro that will ping all four at one single time? Without having to open each individual instance of Pipeline? This takes a couple of minutes on each project And would speed up a recall for an adjustment on a track. Thank you.
Hi, I have another question, first I love all your videos. I have Studiolive 32s series 3. I followed the instructions in your video, but nothing happened, the Pipleline XT meters move showing audio is and going into my outboard gear but I hear no changes when adjusting the knobs on the gear, what I'm I doing wrong? You the only video on RUclips that shows this setup. Good for you.
Awesome video! Thanks Gregor
Excellent Tutorial. Thank you Gregor :)
Nice one. And the next feature will be a set of assignable buttons and sliders to control the external device by means of MIDI/Sysex..?
Great information and delivery of content🤘
One thing you didn't mention, you need to disable any zero latency monitoring on your interface. Otherwise, you'll get feedback and / or you'll hear the return on your main outputs.
I've got a Presonus USB interface, by default the monitoring is set so Pipeline doesn't work. It took me a while to figure out why!
Can we use your pipeline example as a loop back test?
Not including any outboard processing of course. Great video. Thx.
I have a Lexicon Delay/Reverb hardware unit !
When I am recording vocals and guitars I would like to have delay/reverb in my monitoring but only recording the dry vocal/guitar.
Can Pipeline XT be used for this purpose ?
If so, how do I route it in Studio One ?
I have 2 Stereo Outs and 2 Stereo Ins on my soundcard !
Thanks for a great product !
Your steps are great, but I can't seem to get this to work with the RME UFX II. I'm starting to think it's the interface's software because I can see levels in the hardware and software, but I can only hear the unprocessed signal playing back.
Nice Tutorial ! But why is not possible to control the few parameters from the Faderport 8 ? (Edit Plugins ) That's really strange ...
Always very helpful thank you. My issue is I have clicking/popping and can't use this process as the audio sounds terrible. I use a Ferrofish A/D convertor with an Apogee Symphony desktop. I have been unable to resolve this issue. I have looked at buffer size, latency, etc. and cannot solve this. I have several nice outboard compressors, eq's etc. that I had planned on using during mixdown but I can't! Thoughts? Is this my PC not being able to handle it?
THANK YOU 👍
Please forgive me: I'm not technical.
I'm trying to understand: Isn't it possible to record/mix with analog equipment without inserting Pipeline? I'm not sure I understand why I would to use Pipeline other than just to preserve the settings on the piece of analogue equipment. If that's the case, it appears that the only thing that can be adjusted is Pipeline's level. 🤔
Additionally: Can this be anymore complicated?
Thank you!
did you print your mix or you use offline export
wish to know what to do after this ?
How do you use multiple instances of Pipline XT on multiple channels at once!
Hi, Gregor, have this studio one 5 itwo station.
But I cannot find the Pipeline integration here.
Hey greg I don't have hardware so can I use the workstations compressor example roland fantoms? Its a bloody foolish doubt I know I'm just asking for getting analog feel
Amazing 🔥
How does the effect get printed to the audio track? Do you have to re-record it with pipeline activated on the channel? If you unplug your I/O that you used to hook up your external gear does pipeline xt no longer work/apply changes to the track? Just don’t know how to save the audio so it actually takes effect running through outboard stuff when exporting a mixdown
What kind of mic boom arm are you using? Looks sturdy
How does "transfer track to rendered audio" do anything with pipeline xt? Don't we have to arm and record a track in order to get outboard gear to process signal?
Why is the fader not workin when using Pipeline as an Insert Effect in Studio One? It doesn't matter if I use fader automation or if I simply move the fader with my mouse, the sent signal is always the same volume. Do I really need to use Pipeline as a Send Effect to avoid this or are you guys going to fix this in the near future?
Hi Greg, I've got a StudioLive 16.0.2 and the only outputs are AUXes 1/2 and 3/4. I'm confused what channels I need to assign to my outboard gear.
Saludos tengo una studiolive 16.4.2 y no consigo hacer la configuración de donde tengo q hacer el envío?
Hi Gregor, great video! My question is, if you have Flock Audio’s Patch do we still need to use Pipeline? Do we need to integrate the two? How would this work?
Why st1 zoom is so trouble to start position. If i want go to start bar zoom in, i must do mouse wheel zoom and shift+wheel move to left.
Hi can you run multiple tracks of pipline xt at the same time?
Hello, Studio one artist 4 has that support for pipeline xt? Thanks
I always wondered what's the stand that Gregor uses for the ATOM units. Any tips?
I'm using studio live 16r mixer and when I go out with pipeline on mixbus my stereo image disappears? Any advice?
thank you
I can't get this working with my Studio live 64s to my pedals.
Can you use pipeline to use hardware inserts while tracking? Or only after material is recorded?
Hi Gregor, My audio interface and mixer is STUDIO LIVE AR12, can I use the pipeline to use my Alessis compressor? but I really do not know the connections going out studiolive and coming from alessis back to Studiolive. Thanks for the help. Hope you can make a video using a Studiolive mixer. I would really appreciate it. Thanks, again
I can not get my ATOM to control Pipeline, I would like to assign mix knob to ATOM but it is not possible. Any idea why?
Hello good morning, please, how do I play a player on each individual track like ableton live in Studio one?
I need to player each track with wave separately, that is, I need to map a CC-player button on each track like Ableton live.
I need to drop players on the Pads pads of the controller to play live with piano plugin in kontakt UVI and ETC.
Do you know if I can automate the "Mix" parameter or ANY parameter for that matter in Studio One? I'm using Korg Kaossilator KP3+ and I need to insert it only for a short period of time, then bypass it completely. But I can't find "pipeline XT" from the list of things I can pick to automate.
How do you get this with a Focusrite 18i8 audio interface
I have tried this multiple times, and all I have is static and noise. I have never gotten Pipeline to send/return properly.
when will automation be available with pipeline?--thanks
Can I change outputs to separate channels back thru my Model Mixer 24.
I have a question. If I set up an fx channel and assign sends, do I send straight to the IO or do I send to the fx channel???
If you have struggled to work with Pipeline XT because you've experienced feedback loops, here is the fix. As some people have pointed out in the comments already, you need to make sure the software controlling your audio interface is not mixing your inputs and outputs together. If you have a Presonus interface, check out this Presonus blog post by Craig Anderton: blog.presonus.com/2019/08/16/filling-the-pipeline. If you have a Focusrite interface, this page tells you what to do: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115004591485-How-do-I-set-up-and-use-an-external-effects-processor-as-an-insert-when-mixing-in-Focusrite-Control-.
Very helpful..Thanks..
hello i use studio one 5 with a rme ucx2 sound card i have a heritage 1073 preamp when i use it in pipeline if i raise the volume of the preamp a delay is heard .... is this normal?
Can Pipeline be used to adjust phase when recording with two mics?
Hi, you can do so on any channel by engaging the polarity switches available on every channel from the Input Controls section in the Mixer Console. -GBY
Could you also use this technique to make an external pedalboard into a plugin?
There's another video where Joe Gilder talks about it, just use search tab :)
Excellent mais dommage pas de sous titres en français👍
There are mono hardware units I have an 1176 mono unit that I’m trying to put on my vocals I see the input I’m receiving signal but in pipeline there’s no return so nothing is coming out of the return only the send
I the I/O Set Up Window did you create both and Send(output) and Return(input?) For a mono example Output 5 and Input 5? Then in Pipeline select "input 5" for the Send and "input 5" for the Return. Like Zappa said "you gotta get into it before you get out of it." FZ.
Hey Gregor, cool.
Sonst du musst immer "transform to rendered audio" und Hardware nochmal separat einstellen.
Please someone explain what the problem is, when I can't get a signal to return in Pipeline? I have outputs 3+4 of my Audient ID44 interface going into an External Mic Pre, then out the Mic Pre into inputs 1+2 on the ID44. What am I missing here?
set the return to 3/4
Anyone has used this pipeline XT from Studio One Project Page?
I've got a guitar track that I recorded in stereo with two mics. I want to use my WA73-EQ as an external plugin to EQ the track. However, the WA73-EQ has only one input. Is there any way to get around this?
Hi, you could separate the stereo recording into 2x mono tracks ( using the Audio Batch Converter AddOn, for example: shop.presonus.com/Audio-Batch-Converter ), then print the WA73-EQ separately for each one. Finally, merge the processed mono Tracks back into a Stereo Track using the Audio Batch Converter. -GBY
@@presonus Thank you!
Too bad this isn’t available in Artist. Many of us old hobbyist has collected a lot of outboard gear over the years, but guess this is considered a pro only feature.
Will this work with a record player (vinyl)?
yes. you just need to make sure you have a record player with a sound card (plenty of them have them nowadays). you just set it up as shown here and then you can sample yourself as if you were sampling from real vinyl
🤠
we haven't reinvented time and space haha
I posted a year ago and no reply.
What 2 interfaces do you have cascading?
Hi, I'm cascading a PreSonus Quantum with a PreSonus Quantum 2626. Works great! :) -GBY
