If you’ve been diagnosed with anovulation, you may be scrambling to wrap your head around what this means. Essentially it is when a woman doesn’t ovulate during her menstrual cycle. This can have obvious effects on your fertility.
In today's episode of Nourish, fertility and women's health dietitian Melanie McGrice discusses some of the reasons why you may not be ovulating and what you can do about it from a nutritional point of view.
    Take care!

Hey there Melanie! Do you know how long bleeding during an anovulatory cycle lasts? I accidentally set my cycle off (yes, I'm aware of why it happened) and I literally cannot find an answer to this question. I would assume the uterus would take the same amount of time to shed regardless, but its definitely not the same as my normal cycle which only lasts 5 days (bleeding I mean). Thanks so much!

Hello. I went on a extreme diet/extreme exercise regime cca 2 months ago, just after my period ended. I wanted to lose 5kg in preparation for pregnancy. I was determined to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible. My next period lasted just a day and a half, with more brown discharge than blood. I am 176cm, 75 kg, athleete with plenty of muscle mass, but fat to, so there is no "low BMI" case here. I tried to find any study that will tell me if short period (as short as 2-3 weeks) can cause anovulation an mess up a cycle like that, but unsuccessfully. All studies were conducted during much longer period, and they monitored IF calorie restriction would impact m.cycle, but not the intensity of the disruption. But anyhow, I upped my starch and calories next month, took a bit slower on the excericise part, but ended up with funny period (2 days brown, and lastly 2 days of unusual discarge- clots and "mucusy" blood, with "beat up and left on the ground" feeling in pelvic area). So, my questions are: 1. Can short period of extreme calorie deficit in women with moderate body fat % cause anovulation (maybe there are studies I couldn find)? 2. How long does it take for hormones to get back to normal if one stops immediately with the actions that caused disturbances? 3. Is there anything else that could be done to speed things up? I'm 38, mother of 2, don't drink or smoke.

Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately I can't give personalised advice via my socials. I suggest booking a consultation for advice such as this.

@@z.manshad1102 Hi. After that "funny" period, I tried for the pregnancy and concieved right away. But before I knew I concieved I got the ultrasound around ovulation and my uterine lining was very tick, around 17mm, which suggest to me that my next period would be heavy (maybe unopposed estrogen?). Unfortunately, I had missed misscariage that I dealt with 2 weeks ago (at 9th week of pregnancy). So, I am "out of order" and therefore in the dark regarding my period and current reproductive health.

Same thing here. I lost 40lbs using gradual calorie restriction and exercise. Now I’m not ovulating
