    I miss Rek'Sai's old teleporting ult, was such a niche travel ability. There was actually reasons u wanted tunnels on the other side of the map and even hidden away inside the enemy jungle. It added a cool minigame aspect of hide-the-tunnel to possibly use later for a clutch teamfight. The small bushes in top/bot lane between inner and outer turrets were great for this. Keeping track of how many tunnels and how long they had been up was a unique skill to have. Nowadays you really don't need to care about tunnel placement aside from trying to keep them on ur jg paths and in good gank spots.

    • @Yoshyguy21
      @Yoshyguy21 11 месяцев назад +6

      Well, the problem is it was not niche at all. It was just way too good, with how fast it was plus the fact that its range was potentially global. It made Rek'Sai waaay too oppresive.

    10:45 small correction, the tether to enemy actually didn't do damage to who she tethered, only the people who collide with the line, so the only way you would get the damage is from tethering a minion behind the enemy, or tethering an ally and then "trip-lining" them

    I loved Zac's reworked ult, and it felt like it had more skill expression to it than just bouncing through the enemy team a bit, or going "oh I got stunned in ult so I'm literally useless."
    If you had other forms of CC on your team, the reworked ult could combo well off them, you could reposition enemies over walls, into towers, pull them into/out of AOEs, etc. it just felt better and it being reverted was one of the things that ultimately led to me stopping with League- to be a little overdramatic.

    As for if Alpha Strike still remained as his R, might make him worse because Alpha Strike is Yi’s only what to deal extra damage besides auto and his E true damage as well as his only way to dodge CC and AOE damage.

    As a league boomer, the counter strike active became active for 2-3 seconds after you dodged an attack. Combined with a 4s or so cooldown it meant that Jax was MORE powerful diving in a minion lane, as the minion attacks barely do damage but ensured your counter strike was active on cooldown.

    Wait, doesn't Crit Chance kinda work like this?
    Theoretically, a 20% Crit Chance could give you crits on every hit, and an 80% Crit Chance could give you one crit throughout the whole game (though both of these are of course astronomically unlikely).

    • @WizToma
      @WizToma 11 месяцев назад +6

      Pretty sure there is a system in place that makes it less luck dependent, it is definetly still random but you can't have extreme (bad)luck

    • @donvitopatata
      @donvitopatata 11 месяцев назад +2

      There is some amount of math behind it making this even more unlikely, while not guaranteeing every 5th shot with 20% to be a crit

    • @adammat13
      @adammat13 11 месяцев назад +3

      Correct. They have however put in systems to reduce the randomness. Every attack you make either increases or decreaes your critical strike chance depending on whether you crit or not. So you would never be able to crit 5 times in a row with 20% crit chance

    • @Nazuiko
      @Nazuiko 11 месяцев назад

      Correct, the game "inflates" crit every time you fail to crit. (Not sure if it works in reverse; i.e., if you crit 3 times in 5 autos with only 20% crit chance, are your next 10 autos less likely to crit?) Every time you dont crit with >0% crit chance the game adds a buffer, keeping it as close to the on-paper % of autos rather than pure statistical randomness.
      i.e., if you have 20% you can genuinely anticipate 2 crits in 10 autos. At 60-70% Crit chance youll almost never see 3 auto attacks without at least 1 critical strike.

    Great Vid, as always. Never heard of Zacs old Ult before, but gotta say, even though the current one is probably way better, kidnapping the backline and carrying them in the middle of your team sounds insanely fun. If they would increase the damage, I wouldnt mind it coming back.

    • @SonicElinmortal
      @SonicElinmortal 11 месяцев назад +2

      That's is the thing, it sounds good but most of the time you just gave the assassin or tank a free gap closer to YOUR backline, and you could no longer carry games or 1v1 anyone.

    As a Zac main who played before they updated it, then after the update, and then after the revert, I'll put in my two cents. With his old Q, he was a great hybrid ap bruiser. The ult supported this by doing a bunch of damage as well as it's considerable displacement abilities. After the updates to his q and ult, he was shifted to be much more focused on being a full tank. The kidnap ult did MUCH less damage, and it wasn't even close. So long to combo'ing squishies, even if you had old Liandry's and some Sorc boots. It was tough to adapt, but I got the play I was most proud of with that old ult. I slingshotted into baron pit, kidnapped the enemy jungler while they were doing baron, and flashed back over to smite while the jungler was stuck on the other side of the wall. Flashing forward to present day, Zac is a great mix of both. He still has good damage, but he has great CC to support his role as a tank. He'll always be my favorite champion.

    The thing old Volibear had was his HORENDOUS cooldowns, His Q was at standard bruiser utility skill CD, somewhere about 18-12 seconds. His E, which was strong, was on around a 12 sec cd and his ult was around 100 seconds, which is not too bad,but it wasnt the most insane ult. The worst part was his W, which was his only real damage and had an 18 seconds CD flat. on an ability that you could only do after 4 auto attacks and dealt good damage to low targets. The problem was that at this time CDR wasnt as big and the only 2 items you build with CDR were Frozen heart and Spirit,which gave 20 and 10 respectfully. The only bruiser items with CDR were cleaver and trinity, and trinity was one of those items you sometimes build but arguably was terrible with your long CD's and your W not applying on hit. This all meant that you were a great duelist, or good at dealing damage to 1 person in a teamfight, before just turning into a tank that can flip every 10 seconds, while being really kiteable.

    So the "activation" cost on Jax's counterstrike WAS the stun. The trick was you could only use the stun/damage for a couple seconds after dodging an attack; so while the dodge was always active, you could only bap people if they autoattacked you and it missed. It also only worked on attacks, not spells. It was still bonkers stupid and is the reason dodge was removed from everyone else (Udyr's passive used to give him dodge too) but it wasnt "every time you dodge anything you stun and damage everyone nearby."

  • @miguelsanchez825
    @miguelsanchez825 11 месяцев назад

    Jax E active used to work this way:
    After Jax dodged an attack he had a timeframe (6-10 seconds if i remember correctly) where he could cast it and deal the stun and dmg. You could see some animations around him when he was able to.
    This was to "balance" him so he just doesn't have a stun as soon as he jumps you but you can get the ability to do so when dodging minions and jungle attacks too, and possibly towers so yeah it was very strong.

    I haven't caught up on the other videos in this series so forgive me if you've done them already, but Taric and Sivir's old ults were really something.
    Taric's being a toggle heal that also gave him a whopping 90AD and a portion of that to nearby allies, and Sivir's being a movespeed and attack speed aura. Both of these also worked on minions, so you could really demolish towers.

    Zacs old ult was fine counterplay wise. Sure you could flash and dash out, but so can you do from every other ult thats nit targeted, the cast time wasnt even that long and for howmuch value it can bring it was justified to be able to dash out of it

    In dota , the random chance is still present but its kept to the minimum with one exception, there is a heroe in dota , Chaos Knight, whose entire kit relies on random chance. His Q is a proyectile that stuns for a random amount of time, his W is a long range pull that eliminates a random amount of armor and his E is a passive passive massive crit dealt at random that heals for a percent of damage dealt .
    And still he saw competitive success because his ult cloned him up to 5 times allowing those random chances to be more accurate

    W is basically either giving a combo accel gate + wall of pain (like you said) or keeping a roaming fed carry on almost permaghost.
    Q and E are also hard to beat since they're not skillshots combined with her passive (which gives essentially the AP of Rabadons at low health).

    Zac old ultimate is what made me fear him and he still does to this very day.
    I ban him all the time, it only took my flash to be down for Zac to run down mid or top and kidnap me into enemy minion waves and the opposite lane champ plus him (AND turret if I was shoving)
    Accepting my demise.

    I think Zac's problem wasn't that enemies could easily get out of the ult. If that were the problem, then changing the cast time would be a very easy solution. In fact, they removed it precisely because it was a very strong ability. The CC time that E or Q provided was enough for the ultimate to work, which means that for you to miss the ult, you would have to have missed everything else. Not only could he easily CC lock 2 characters, he could also relocate them. The only way to escape this was to building a lot of tenacity or use some kind of cleanse.

    4:20 A little clarification on old school dodge: It only worked on autoattacks, not abilities (that aren't empowered autoattacks). That being said in a big group fight an ADC shooting at a fed jax was what we call "Actively Throwing", since every autoatack gave Jax the opportunity to stun your team, which isn't great design.

  • @Horlianz
    @Horlianz 11 месяцев назад

    Well to be fair: There was an Item that you could get with the effect: Your attacks cannot miss
    With that dodge items (which where outside of the dodge not that good) where quite bad, because you removed the effect of the best stat.
    It was semi nice that you had to buy a special item to counter dodge builds, but if an enemy stacked them, he was food for anyone that could not miss attacks.

  • @PunCala
    @PunCala 11 месяцев назад

    The old Veigar ult was fun in theory, but the problem was that even if the Veigar was bad and you got incredibly fed, he would still one shot you through your own AP. He could be 0/5 and you 5/0 and you'd get one shot because you had too much AP. Add in the fact that his stun cage was instant and it wasn't very fun.

    I know you've done Blade Waltz, but eventually I'd like to see old Fiora E. It WAS the strongest attack speed steroid in the game, and had a reset mechanic on kill (or assist?) and I feel the change made to this ability drastically changed her identity as a champion.

    They could have made so that old Zac ult gave the grounded debuff yes, but something that not many people know is the fact that the "grounded" status is relatively recent, I believe the first instance of it was the Cassiopeia rework (the one where she couldn't buy boots) around season 6.

    Correction on dodge: it only worked on basic attacks. Also, it didn't cancel out on-hit damage consistently, sometimes leading to meme fights of full stacked madred Warwick auto attacking a 100% dodge Jax to death.

    I used to main Voli back in the day, even before the huge e change. But after the rework he just became too unreliable, so i barely play him anymore. His old kit was more of an anticarry kit. He used to be strong early, so you couldnt do much against him, but then in late he would do poor damage and you had to rely on disruption for your team. This current one is strong early, but late he is just bad. Your disruption is much worse than before and your only option becomes running at 1 guy until he dies, or you get kited and die. he also deals poor damage late, unless you go ap, but that makes him very squishy and he is still easy to kite. I know everyone loves his rework, but for me it just made him less flexible and less fun in the process.

  • @LucasBananas

    I actually like the reworked Zac ult. His ult actually have so many potential but people usually go boring way like scooping enemy toward your team, being super engaging tank, his engage is sufficient even without the ult. You can use his ult to amplify his engage and not interrupt your team skillshot by ulting in the same place or you can use the ult to save your friends from being dive by scoop the enemy out. I hope they will bring back this idea one day
