good god, what a catch, gp16, bq23-7, u23b, sd40, and friends all in the same lashup in multiple schemes. I miss the 80s and those GEs are banging loud.
I love those Family Lines paint jobs, C&O, B&O, L&N along with first generation CSX, I'm starting to build a 15x10 N Scale Conrail layout circa 1985 and I'll be acquiring some of those Locomotives to run on my layout for sure!!!
Thanks! It was a great time for railfanning the CST. Lots of variety. I'm also an N scaler and a 15x10 sounds like it will be a nice sized layout and 1985 CR is a good choice. If you haven't already, check out the videos for Volume 4 - 2,2, and 3. They should have some 1988 era CR from around the Altoona area for you.
@BNSFFAN01 Thank you!! Yeah me and the Wife sold our old house and bought the one we're in now about 10 years ago so I had to tear down my HO Conrail layout and even though this house has a basement it doesn't have the room for a HO setup so now I'm going N Scale with an area about 15 foot long by 10 feet wide, I've been collecting N Scale equipment now so on days my Semi is parked I hit up the hobby shops in Indianapolis, we have the Great Train Show coming in January so I'm looking forward to that!!!
Where is this? Also in that multi unit lash up 3003 was later repainted YN2 and was the only BQ to get that paint scheme and the last one repainted.. GP16 1853 was built for Chicago and eastern Illinois and was outshopped in seaboard system paint but as SCL 4807 originally - it was one of the first units painted SBD before the merger was official
The initial shots are around Etowah TN and most all the rest in this video are in the Chattanooga TN area. Finally found my video log so adding some additional detail to the descriptions on the videos already posted and going forward should have the details when posted.
Thank you and yeah I can see how it looks like that. It was actually pretty normal to see that type of lash up back then on CSX. Those U-boats ran for a few more years before drifting off to the scrappers.
Great video. Love the 60 had its red light on when it went by. It's such a rare thing to find any video of that light being on, esp with all the vintage SP videos out there. Was that unit build for SP originally and taken up by NS?
Thanks! Those GP60 Demos were built with the full SP light package of the time and did end up going to SP after their tour as demonstrators was done. Not sure if that was the original intent of EMD or that it just worked out that way. In some of the earlier videos. you will also see the GP59 demonstrators that were eventually purchased by NS as part of their GP59 fleet.
SQVR (c&o) SD18 7317 survives in Nebraska working at a grain elevator in Indiana RR paint. I shot it this summer

Thanks, the variety was really great during those times 🙂

At 6:25 that GE is chugging real good.
Love this stuff, your channel is a true treasure trove! 80s railroading on VHS > 2024 PSR at 8K 120FPS
Thank you, much appreciated!
