Just a reminder that this is not a New Age to Jesus testimony and is not a space for you to promote Jesus or your Christianity - this is clearly not the focus of the discussion. I respect your beliefs, so please respect mine. Any comments of this nature will be deleted. xx Grace
THANK YOU. There is a serious defecit of materials that call this stuff out without leaning towards deliverance ministry propaganda. It's the same thing! If pushing Jesus works.... it would have already
They want to raise global consciousness yet spend all their time working on themselves and ignoring the pains of others unless they can use it to raise their own consciousness And abundance.
The most healing thing ive experienced related to the new age movements discussed here, is when people such as yourself put it into context so perfectly. It brings me a sense of relief to know others have noticed similar things and you have articulated everything in fewer words than i possibly could.
I have been trying to get people to wake up since 2015, from this whole new age indoctrination. For years I feel like I've questioned my own sanity, when I felt like I was the only one trying to speak logic and common Sense amongst people who much rather just believe things that are not questioned. I make my own videos on my own channel ranting about the New age movement, but I don't necessarily get a whole lot of interaction, but I am very happy that I'm seeing other people who have a larger following than I do, are getting the message out there. It's not that I don't believe in other worldly things, I just think that a lot of these things need to be taken with a grain of salt. Whenever I hear people talk about the law of attraction, and that you can manifest anything you want, I always bring up the fact that there are people around the world who are starving to death, and I wonder are they able to manifest what they want so easily, if their mind is always on, oh I don't know surviving???, as these new agers claim?. What about those people with mental illnesses? Does the universe punish them for not being able to remain on a dopamine high all the time?. I'm at that point where you're talking about spiritual narcissism, and OMG is so true. I am looked at as low vibrational in a lot of these circles, because of the fact that I think critical, and by thinking critical criticize inconsistencies within the belief systems. Also the fact that I openly talk about my own personal issues, and try to explain as I've already mentioned, that you can't be on a dopamine high all the time. I crack jokes a lot with these people, not at all trying to be mean, but a lot of times I know they hate it because there's a hint of Truth to what I'm saying. I honestly can go on forever about all this HA!
Hey! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Definitely a conversation that requires nuance and discernment when it comes to approaching these ‘New Age’ ideas. Thanks for your sharing ❤️
I’ve always had an “off putting” feeling from a lot of “New Age types”. It does have its inward benefits with some practices - a focus on mediation, spiritual, physical, emotion and mental health, a mindset against hyper consumerism and nihilism. I don’t have a problem with that. I see it as a product of modernity, in a ways pseudo-spiritualism at a lot of its basis. It’s outside of a general cannon of esoteric concepts (not all new “New Age” beliefs). I don’t see it as a reemergence of spirituality but an invention. Revisionist-historicism and many concepts were misunderstood and misconstrued, which have spiralled away from something authentic. A focus on external detachment to the point of atomising a connection to reality. Then a bunch of science fiction dumped on top. An inner drift away from Meaningfulness, the profound and the transcendental which feels like there’s a void of authenticity. I see the same with a lot of Christians also, it’s more a “modernist mindset” which is in a lot of different cultural spheres.
i dont see how it is anti consumeristic by telling you, you can "manifest" wealth and power just by thinking hard about it. That is 99% of "The Secret".
@@acesius393 Some parts / flavors of New Age do contain some form of asceticism - as a rejection of consumerism. But that is less common in comparison to growing trend of the "manifest" pseudo-profound nonsense.
WOW! You said all the things that I was thinking about this movement and the characters in it! I love the tribe that I’ve found through yoga and running, but I can’t help but feel a level of narcissism and superficiality and even separateness in both communities. I feel included but there’s a yardstick and a carrot being held in my face simultaneously. It’s weird. So I tend to take an observational approach lately, which puts me in sort of a trick bag.
Thank you for this. I'm trying to discover what spirituality is and what, if anything, it means to me. I value the balanced view you've taken because I find the many baseless claims, egocentric virtue signaling and blatant profiteering extremely off-putting, especially when it preys on the vulnerable and uneducated. I believe in the value of traditional wisdom that has evolved from centuries of social experience. I value reflection, analysis and shadow work. I believe that some integral practices are beneficial to the mind and body. Our connection to this planet that sustains us is obvious. But I struggle with the notion of a spiritual life after physical death, or that experiences with intoxicating drugs are proof of a universal connection. I think the difficulties of our existence cause us to need something greater than ourselves and that the placebo effect is a powerful conspiritor. I feel I have a long way to go in making sense of spirituality, and I'll definitely rewatch your video several more times to help me. Thanks again.
I usually never comment on any yt videos. But i loved this so much. So human and self aware but at the same time highly awakened and pure ❤️ Bless you and keep speaking your truth and spreading compassion
I think the Law of Attraction makes sense but only insofar as positive thoughts lead to positive actions (as they often do). The idea that just thinking happy, without doing anything, magically leads to good stuff is harder to swallow. Also, aren't there people who have done very little, who have probably not even thought much about it, who were born in to good circumstances and lead seemingly blessed lives? And if the law is true then the converse - that negative thoughts lead to negative consequences - is also true. This also makes sense because people who are mired in negative thoughts such as "everything sucks and I can't do anything about it" are unlikely to do anything to change their negative experience. I can accept that. But what I cannot abide is the idea that people who have been abused, raped or worse are somehow culpable as they must have brought it on themselves, at least to some degree; or that the thousands starving in Liberia or Haiti would be fine if only they could think right. And is anyone prepared to say that children born with, for instance, cancer, are somehow complicit in their state? That, as the Law of Attraction implicitly states, they have a hand in their own misery? In that sense, this doctrine is not logical and is in fact, deplorable.
P.S. Just thought of something. The sort of people that the religions (namely Christianity) have the most sympathy for - the poor, the widow and the orphan, those naked, hungry and thirsty - are precisely the ones for which the spiritual new age and Law of Attraction have the least mercy.
I see it's the natal chart, family curses, narc, psychopathic families, negative energy attached to a lot of people somehow from birth. What's going on currently on Earth and in every country separately plays a role. All plays a big role. LOA plays more of a minor role. Most of the rich people and people on good positions are the Illuminati and sold outs through lifetime to lifetime, or induced in it growing up or sold out just by their choice
Hilariously, given this topic, I came here intuitively! Because... of course I did! 😉🥰 I was so excited to see your topic! I literally got goosebumps and I paused multiple times- once to go get the Rushkoff book on hold, another to make sure I could find that amazing quotation around 11:54. Listening to you is like listening to myself! Except that I didn't provide myself with such an enlightened family of origin. Yours sounds unreal. What a tremendous gift to get that kind of 'head start'!!! Thank you for your thoughtful evaluation of this complex topic. You seemed to be apologizing at the end, and my feedback is this: why not think of what you didn't cover in this one, and make a follow up! I'd love to hear more on it! In fact, you've inspired me to do the same over on my channel. I'm so grateful that the energy of your analysis has affected me so profoundly! 💗
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, it’s crazy to me that I can impact someone else virtually to that degree. I am thinking I’ll eventually make a follow up. Lots of love 🥰❤️
@@gracechance You're so welcome! I'm relatively new to my own spiritual awakening and I geeked out so much on it at first that I started making an Google archive of different lineages in new age spirituality. 😉 As I've grown in my own process, one of the greatest reliefs to me has been that I can enjoy and thrive in my own work without needing to 1) monetize it and/or 2) brand what I do. If I want to share, I can do so freely. With your upbringing especially, your insights on this evolution and how it appears in the modern itierations out there now are priceless. I'm really grateful for the time and attention you put to this. 😍
The things you said about the Law of Attraction were especially helpful for me - how that kind of thinking can be a good motivator, even if just for positive thinking, but it can also be a damaging and useless feedback loop. Having come from an opposing Western Christian background in the States (maybe close to what you're imaging) to yours, I know what you mean by not having a direct problem with a belief system that you know very well more than having a problem with how most people seem to want to use those beliefs. How complicated. Anyway, landing upon some of your thoughts did me some good and also I have a sister named Grace and she just had a baby boy named Chance; Weird! Thank you and Good Luck ⚡️✨
Nice take. I notice the YT algo keeps sending me variants of cottagecore + LOA + quantum whatever. Sometimes that plus travel influencer / off the grid / millionaire slumming in Ubud. I don't get it. It seems like a lot of things thrown in a blender. A spiritual smoothie. Then again, I started on a zen path about 20 years ago. It's not quick. But there are moments.
