    Mario Party isn’t Mario Party until someone learns how to -manipulate- convince someone to take someone else’s star from boo. That truly is the friendship ruiner.

    Wow, this brings me back. Several friends in my main mario party group were really good at something in the game besides me. I was one of the worst mini game players in the group. Sure, i had a few favorites that i still have never lost at, but for the most part, i was always at a huge disadvantage to win... Which is exactly why i ended up winning the most. I plotted and plotted, i was never really viewed as the main threat for guy most likely to win, and i was always calculating how to increase my chances at getting some bonus stars, and then i acted shocked when i got the bonus stars at the end of the game lol. I was a tactician with every move i made, and i would whisper sweet nothings into everyones ears like emperor palpatine so that i can have my anakins do my bidding and destroy everyone else while i went for victory. God, I LOVE MARIOPARTY SO MUCH.

    11:30 You see this play out with the Party Crashers' channels; specifically their raid boss videos. (One player gets 5 stars to start, and the others have to put him in last to win). Both times they tried it, the raid boss in question had an utterly miserable time and got completely clowned on by the other three. King of Skill was their best minigame player and he ended his turn as the raid boss with zero stars.

    • @Team_Orchid
      @Team_Orchid 3 месяца назад +11

      They're especially good for "shut your trap" as King of Skill can comfortably win even when the other players know he's in a great position. More often than not two of them have entered a game long shouting match with each other and become more concerned with making sure someone gets last than they are with getting first.

    Don't put down that Reverse Shroom just yet. While the triple boo move is a gimmick, the item itself is still very flexible and powerful for only 5 coins. It lets you get stars that spawn behind you, sneak behind skeleton key doors, force opponents away from their goals, or force them to use their golden mushroom when the star is right next to them.

    • @DesigningFor
      @DesigningFor  3 месяца назад +10

      Oh absolutely, I would argue that the item is actually essential in Woody Woods and still very good in Chilly Waters and especially Spiny Desert if you're farming the cactus. I have just seen entire games come down to "heehee, I am buying Reverse Mushroom Turn 1" on Chilly or Spiny and then it never gets used and you get stuck in one of the loops or on the ice and then you're trapped forever. It's very good, broken in a lot of situations, but I think it's overvalued by those "in the know" because of the potential massive return to the point where other strategies are just ignored.

    Mario Party isn't just a game of luck. That's such a horrible misconception that it hurts to hear every time. No, Mario Party is a mix of minigame skill, measuring the odds and verbal mindgames. You can never know what'll happen in a Mario Party match, but you can try and sometimes it works out.
    Ultimately don't give up. There's always hope to win, even in the bleakest of moments. . .oh yeah, and have fun too! Partiers have one thing others do not: a franchise that never gets boring. Despite all the fun jokes that you'll lose friends, more often than not it'll just be in good fun. There's nothing in the world quite like Mario Party and that's something really special in my eyes. We should treasure it and thank it for giving us so many fun memories.
    Go on, play a game of Mario Party! Have a blast, whether you win or lose! Also join the Mario Party Netplay Discord group too, where many partiers across the world are ready to play!

    See, stuff like this is why I absolutely love Mario Party. There are so many things that you have to consider almost every turn and adapting around it is what makes it so fun. It really does make you feel like a mastermind when a simple plan of yours works and it shoots you ahead in the game and this video was a great explanation as to why this series is NOT just luck based. Even the smallest things have a big impact in Mario Party

  • @Mijzelffan
    @Mijzelffan 23 дня назад +3

    The manipulation is one of my favourite things in games. One thing I like to do is to play the role of the person who's just trying to help you play the game optimally. You can earn someone's trust by telling them early on that it's most advantageous to target you. "You should steal the double dice from me, those are the most useful to you". Later on you can posit that "yes targeting me is most advantegous if you want X, but if you want Y then you should target the other player". If they target you you're not upset, they just logically chose option X. Then once it actually matters you can insist that the other person is shooting themselves in the foot by targeting you. Whatever the outcome of the game, insist that you were right during that key moment (Z won because you targeted me / Z was so far ahead there was nothing we could do / I won now but if you had targeted me Z would've won / I only won after you targeted me because I got really lucky) to condition them for next time that you really just want what's optimal for everyone.

    • @oak8594
      @oak8594 16 дней назад

      If someone did that to me, I would treat them as Archenemy One: I no longer care about winning the game myself, my victory condition is just making you lose

    • @Mijzelffan
      @Mijzelffan 16 дней назад

      @oak8594 You will never win with that strategy. Plus you show to everyone playing that you're bad at the game and what you say is biased driving the other players straight into my arms. Plus even if I have a lead I don't have a real lead because Oak is going to target me next anyway, so really the optimal play for the other two persons is to target each other or you instead. Maybe I won't win the game because of you, but I will win the trust of the other players because of you, and next time we just won't invite you for being toxic or a sore loser or whatever.

    I'm sure most grew up playing against CPUs. Why not dominate minigames? Other players are just better CPUs, right?

    I think that the last tip is the most important one. Not only for actually keeping your friends, but to make everything before it that has anything to do with manipulation work. Not only does it make those cons more convincing like you mentioned, but seeing you be nice may influence someone later. Tell Luigi some good advice, and maybe he'll think about that when he tries to steal a star and be more likely to spare you. Or perhaps Wario saw how good that advice was, and will be more prone to manipulation later once he needs some help. Additionally, the more frequently you genuinely help people, the harder it is to know when you're playing them for a fool.

    It seems though, my kindness has gone unappreciated. Recently, my friend has introduced me to a game he's been playing for over 14 years. He made very little effort to teach me the mechanics, played incredibly mean and dirty, and rubbed it in my face when he won.

The torturous experience of losing coins every turn and being in last until the last second just to turn the situation around with the best exhilarating luck in the world... there's no other feeling that can get any close. Hold the game hostage when it's your turn to move. Refuse to do anything no matter what.
    Then blame it on the one with the most bonus stars. Especially if they're not in first.
    Tell everyone that schemer bribed you and say, "WE thought that this would be funny, and it is!"
    Of course this, isn't graceful, and everyone will still hate you...
    But knowing you robbed a schemer their victory lap whilst saving everyone else from any more dread they can make...

    As someone who grew up 100%ing the gamecube mario parties but had no siblings or friends, then was unleashed upon a friend group and found I was worse at button mashing? Who learned that to keep my pride alive, I'd need my manipulation as much as my board knowledge? I agree, that is a very normal way to be about mario party :3

    The problem is that I play with people who would watch your videos so once I'm like "hmm [x] probably has the coin star" they're gonna be like "oh great you watched the Designing For video" and target me twice as hard

    • @DesigningFor
      @DesigningFor  26 дней назад +2

      Well you don't bluff with coin, you open by saying a bonus star you definitely do not have. Then you can work on that bonus star slowly as everyone else wants to oppress the OTHER target. The important thing is tricking them into becoming tunneled into one specific action.
      And then when everyone targets you anyway because you're Designing For and they don't trust a single thing you say and make intentionally bad decisions because they fear you, you point out every flaw their gameplan has. You point out everything that could've gone right that they're powerless to stop. You drag them down to the level of thuggery and they WILL relent, because your spirit is made of stronger steel. And then you get a lot of movement items and visit Boo at the end and win anyway.

      Honestly I just target blue spaces that haven't been landed on often when it's been a while without a block. It's something worth a single freeform turn to try, especially if I'm down. Also the witch gave me the star.

    At one point I was in a position to steal a star from everyone in Superstars Horror Land as long as I would just say no to the star in front of me...
    I accidentally clicked yes and it ended up costing me the game.
    Most genius strat I have been in a position to pull off so far. and I failed it.
    Edit: It was also a strat I had been using time to set up for a large potion of the game due to the fact I kept getting unlucky with minigames and star placements but when I was able to get into the PERFECT position... I just failed.

    Great video. We have very similar playing styles and this was an entertaining watch.

    I see that your perspective is definitely more inclined to the n64 mario parties, as a primary gamecube player myself I implement different ideas that work consistently, though considering the structure of the n64 titles. This advice definitely works for those, and even to a degree of the later mario parties there is just a somewhat different meta.

    “Why should I not steal from you” I say to my friend while looking him straight in the eye. While he is giving me his speech I act like I’m listening. Only about halfway through him explaining do I keep making eye contact with him as I press the A button while hovering his name, counting the seconds until he notices
