    Chef Hiro, I hope one day you can come and visit the Philippines. Philippine mangoes is the best, very sweet and juicy and not fibrous like the ones you oftentimes get from the supermarket. I've tried 3 of your japanese dishes, all dishes are very good but my favorite ones is the chicken karaage. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us and looking forward for more. Goodluck to you and your wife. Best wishes to you both.

    it was good that you dipped your crackers in milk, but we don't usually do that. if it's really possible, it would be best to use the graham crackers since the ones you used have fiber in them and might taste differently.
    as for the cream, i think even just heavy cream will be a good substitute since adding cream cheese will taste a bit sour i guess, and will make it taste like a cheesecake. one secret of my mom's mango float recipe is to add melted butter on the chilled all purpose cream. i swear it will taste good because of the aroma of butter!
    our mangoes here have different varieties and some have smaller (or flatter) pits so they are easier to cut. and as you said, you can use a variety of fruits. we also use canned mixed fruits, so this recipe is very versatile.
    thank you again hiro-san and to wife-san for another video!

    Using cream cheese and heavy cream to substitute all purpose cream was a good idea. The float is versatile in that you can opt to use other fruits instead of mango. My nephew isn't into fruits so we sometimes use Oreo cookies instead of fruits. And yes, the float is like millefeuille. Dipping the graham in milk like you did made me think of tiramisu though.
    For the next dish, just thought I'd mention that you can combine both pork giniling ang tortang talong since you can put ground pork in the eggplant omelette. It's more filling that way.

    Looks good! You can use any fruit you want and it's still delicious. If you're using other fruits, I suggest you pick a fruit that has a bit of sour taste to balance the sweetness of the cream. Keep up and continue to explore more.

I've done it with strawberries, peaches, and bananas. you can even try doing it using a canned fruit cocktail. As for the cookies, you can use almost any of your fave cookies like graham or ladyfingers... It's Memorial Day weekend is here and a Strawberry float is part of my dessert plan!

  • @cherryreyes2466
    @cherryreyes2466 2 года назад +7

    Hiro san, all purpose cream is light whipping cream. It doesn't whip up with as good a volume as whipping cream with 35% fat or higher.
    By adding cream cheese you actually made mango cheesecake bars which is A++ level for luxury! 👌🎉🎉 SUGOI!
    You can also use digestive biscuits if you want. I have not tried whipped cream + matcha powder and mango but I think that it will work. Maybe 15-20g matcha according to taste and adjust sweetness with sugar.
    Another good combo is mango + chopped roasted cashew or walnuts.
    Try and let us know.

      P.S. as for how my family makes mango float, the all-purpose cream and condensed milk mix would usually be the one to soften the graham crackers so we don’t really need to dunk the crackers in milk. We usually make a 50:50 ratio of the cream and condensed milk so it’s quite runny and not a thick mixture. We leave the whole cake overnight or for about a few hours in the freezer and then all the graham crackers would’ve softened up by then ☺️

    I have not tried using cream cheese in mango float, but i imagine it would taste similar to a no-bake mango cheesecake so it is still yummy 😋 If you used pure whipped cream and condensed milk I think it would taste similar to the more traditional mango float, but your version still looks super good! It's also popular to use canned peaches instead of mangoes too, so any fruit would be nice. I also dip the graham crackers in milk before assembling too

    I dunk the crackers in milk or canned fruit cocktail syrup if I'm in a hurry to eat the mango float (a type of refrigerator cake) since the crackers will soften more quickly. You can also move it from the freezer to the ref so it's less cold when you eat it. I would whip the heavy cream before folding in the condensed milk and omit the cream cheese if I want to save a bit of money or calories. Cream cheese definitely makes it richer and more decadent.

    Our mangoes are sweet and succulent. You can mix some bits and bobs of the mangoes with the cream. Dunking the biscuits in milk is a good idea. Using cream cheese is way better, it adds that salty flavor. With my version , i add another Filipino concoction jam berry, kalumpit. Just to add another dimension in flavor and color. Good job!

  • @Thigsy
    @Thigsy 2 года назад +1

    As usual... Good job on the Mango Float!
    My layering style would be
    Adding a layer of crushed honey Graham somewhere inbetween!
    The usual Mangoes we use looks different than the one you used. Our mangoes are elongated with a flatter pit and are commonly yellow-orange in skin color. The mangoes most Filipino use for this recipe are the sweetest in the world according to The Guinness World Record... The Carabao Mango.
    Usually when there is an abundance of Mangoes... Most often they're not eaten in time and they get over-riped. This is for me... the best ingredient for the inner layer of the float is the over-riped "mushy" Mango, then on the top layer the thick ripe Mango slices. 😅

    Yes, you can also use other fruits, like peaches, blueberries and strawberries. For blueberries, you need to make a compote foe the filling

    We’ve made this version many times. The difference is it’s just a little richer (and pricier). Is it that big of a difference? It will depend on the cream cheese din you use. Sometimes yung ibang cream cheese walang lasa, just creamier and thicker texture. Some add a bit of gelatin powder para parang cheesecake texture talaga.

    That's the first time I saw someone peel a mango like that! Haha. Usually here in the Philippines we slice the mango into three pieces, on both sides near the pit. You just have to feel with your knife where the pit is as you slice it, and do it as close as possible without slicing the pit itself. This way you'll get as much of the mango flesh off as possible.

    • @JaimeStaCruz
      @JaimeStaCruz 2 года назад

      I think the mangoes Sir Hiro used has a different pit shape than the ones here in the Philippines. It looks more rounder compared to the flat and oval shape of the Philippine mango, which is why I think that our way of slicing wouldn't be very effective as opposed to what Sir Hiro did.

    An interesting variety of mango float. The mango you used though seems to be of a fibrous variety so I think the texture you'll get will be incredibly different to the mangoes used here in the Philippines. The mango looks like what we call here an apple mango (for some it's called Indian mango) and that type of mango has a significantly different taste than the carabao mango variety that we have here in the Philippines. I cannot explain how the taste is different but I think the mango used will not be that much compatible to the graham as it was if the mango used is the Philippine variety.

    Tip: My bro uses grounded graham mixed with melted butter then pressed down hard to make a hardened bottom layer for his awesome no-bake cheesecakes topped with fruits filling (mangoes, strawberry or blueberry).
    I think some uses grounded graham as a layer for mango floats if they prefer a no crunch texture. Good Job and I'm sure you've heard this before in the comment section but we are proud to have the best sweetest mango in the world called Carabao mango lol So you definitely should try a fresh one if you visit our country or lucky enough to find one there. If you want to have a taste preview, buy one of our popular dried mango (great for souveniers!). "Cebu" or "R&M" are my favorite brands since they are "real" sliced mangoes with preservatives that hardly contaminates the original taste of our real Carabao mango.

    Sir Hiro, if you can't find ripe and sweet yellow Philippine mangoes, you can use sliced peaches (either in can or in jar bottle) as substitute. They are available in grocery stores.

    Hi, this is the second time I made a comment. How funny or coincidental is it that we have almost the same twist of making classic Filipino food?
    First, your bihon recipe. And now this. Except for the dunking part, this is pretty much how I make my mango float! Lucky me I have access to Pakistani or Mexican mangoes now. Else we have almost same recipe 😊

    It's my first time to see a red mango, it's usually Yellow or green.. it looks like an apple.. hehe. I wonder what's the taste like, whether it tastes like a normal sweet mango or not.. I wonder if it's the same taste as a normal mango float..

      It tastes like an Indian mango, relatively bland and has sort of a medicine-y taste compared to the usual mangoes eaten in the Philippines.

    Great video. Yes, you need more cream. So you could do Graham + cream + mango + cream + Graham. Then repeat.

    looks good! actually you may skip the cream cheese and just use heavy cream + condensed milk but i guess using cream cheese would taste good too like a cheese cake. when you come to the philippines you should try the ripe mangoes here

    I dunk mine in milk too so I can cut it smoothly. This is sooo good. I love mango float but I can't find All-Purpose Cream here in America too. Good idea with the cream cheese maybe I'll do that next time!

    I wonder if that red mango taste different. Filipino mangoes are a little bit smaller, more yellow, sweet and delicious!

    We commonly serve this every holiday or special occasions. The mango you used is different from what we use here but it’s okay to use it as an alternative since mango is quite expensive there I believe.
    Also, I watched the other Filipino dishes you did, you really did well, I’m impressed! 🫶🏻

    I laughed so hard when you twist the mango like how you do it with an avocado lol Try to look for the widest cheek/part of the mango and cut through it ^^

    Ohhh I hope you could make Champorado it's a comfort food and also a good breakfast meal. It's made with rice, cocoa, sugar and you can topped it with milk powder or evaporated milk.
