    Thank you so much for this review. I've been thinking about buying one of these, and was leaning toward the GS Mini before I heard what you had to say here.
    Can you expand a bit on what makes the GS Mini hard to play, compared to the Little Martin? Playability is an important criterion for me in choosing a guitar.
    Thanks!

      Hi, hell yeah playability is the MOST important factor for me when choosing a guitar. Little Martin is really addictive to play. I can play difficult chords and hit the strings cleanly whereas it's heaps harder to do the same thing on the GS Mini. Basically you have to use a lot more force to press on the strings with the GS Mini which takes the fun of it. Don't take my word for it, try them both out at your local guitar store.
      If u want to buy a GS Mini I'd recommend getting your own guitar pickup cuz the Taylor pickup that comes with the GS Mini sounds crap. It has no clarity and lacks detail in the sound. Even with my AER Compact 60, it sounds pretty shit.
      Little Martin's small size and portability is another huge selling point for me. I love the compact size of it. Great for travelling musos.

      Thanks for replying so quickly! I really don't have a "local guitar store" (the nearest Guitar Center is about 50 miles away, and it's unlikely they would have these two guitars in stock), so I just bought a used Little Martin online. I have 45 days to return it if, for whatever reason, I don't like it. Woohoo!
      BTW, I bought the used one, rather than a new one (which I could also have returned) because I've been told that the new ones have a cheaper version of the Fishman preamp; a Sonitone, rather than the iSys-T on the one that you have. So the "plugged-in" sound of the new Little Martins may not be as good as someone would think by watching all the "old" RUclips reviews.
      Cheers, and thanks again!

      Everyone has different opinions. Little Martin sounds better than the GS Mini when it's plugged into my AER Compact 60 Amp. Acoustically (unplugged) the GS Mini wins but I only play my guitars with it plugged in for performances. Might also come down to what amp you have as well.

    Great video, I'm getting a new acoustic guitar for my birthday, and I'm actually thinking about a Little Martin LX1RE and a Taylor Gs mini e Koa!! Can't wait to try them both!! Which one do you recommend? I'm sure they are amazing guitars!! Thank you =)

      Gs mini sounds better acoustically unplugged. I don't like gsmini pickup though

      Gs mini looks good people wont laugh at you so much - the ES2 system is dreadful - harsh and brittle sound. LX1E so comfy playable and portable - its easily picked up with one hand - i use it for travelling, playing in tight spaces and beside the computer /couch to try ideas out. The most playable neck I have ever used. Looks uninpsiring but I cannot deny the conveneince and playability. I agree with all points in this video and conclusion - I have owned both and returned the gs mini right away for full refund. (looked cool though)

    Wouldn't a more appropriate comparison be between the LX1 and the BT1? Being that they have a similar size and price?
    After looking into both these guitars unplugged (not concerned or interested with amplification), I ended up with a GS mini Hog. So much better imo...no comparison

  • @pjmuck

    Are you referring to the Taylor ES-Go PUP here, or a GS Mini-e model? I agree, the ES Go PUP is garbage, but the GS Mini-e models with built in PUP/onboard preamp sound very good, IMO.

    I own both these guitars as well & agree with you on all categories. The GSMini Koa I have has different electronics with a built in tuner similar to the one in the Martin LX1E. Much improved over the 3 button expression pickup that I do not care for. (sounds crappy IMO). The new pickup on the Taylor GSmini I like a lot. Thanks for the review . I subscribed to your channel. :-)

    Thanks for a great review! Would you happen to know how the Martin LX1 compares to the Taylor Academy 10E? Interested in the best feel and comfort.

    • @MichaelLawLtd001
      @MichaelLawLtd001  3 года назад +1

      No unfortunately I have not played a taylor 10E. Are u busking or needing a pick up? Or playing acoustic only? It's important to listen to the pickup in person. But just depends what features u need.

      @@polarbear4728 If you're comparing taylor gs mini vs little martin and you are doing condenser mic to acoustic guitar recordings then definitely buy taylor gs mini. Acoustically it sounds far superior to little martin. But I don't like the pickup on gs mini ( just my opinion ).

    I am considering between Martin LX1E and Taylor BT (Baby Taylor). Which one you would recommend?

    • @MichaelLawLtd001
      @MichaelLawLtd001  4 года назад

      I don't have a baby taylor so not sure on that. I do have a martin LX1E and I do like it a lot mainly for its compactness. If you are a travelling muso then it would suit you. Soundwise, LX1E is pretty decent when plugged in however when unplugged it's not great. If you mainly play unplugged I'd suggest taylor gs mini, I have that and it sounds great unplugged.

      I got a LX1E (little martin) at the end of last year but but I wasn’t really sure when I went to the store and played both and personally, the baby taylor was kind of uncomfortable to play for me, the upper part of the BT body felt too small, the little martin is slightly bigger there and felt soo much more comfortable to play + plugged in it sounds really good! I do not regret my choice
      I don’t know how the BT electro acoustic sounds though, they didn’t have it in store

    I had been looking for a smaller guitar with good playability and plug-in sound. I tried both GS Mini and little Martin at the music shop and found Martin was the clear winner in these areas. I found the GS mini was harder to play chords with my left hand. I bought the little martin and have owned it for over a year now. Never regret a bit and thinking to buy another one because my son and I are fighting for it. In my opinion, playability is much more important than its appearance and the loudness of tones.

    Interesting comparison, I actually had a look at both of them when I wanted a small travel/blues box guitar. I actually ended up with a Harley Benton GS travel guitar at a fraction of the cost.
    OK I had to do a bit of setup work and put decent strings on it but I ended up with a nice little playable instrument that in no way sounds like a toy guitar! I didn’t buy the one with a pickup because I knew it would be sh1t so maybe at a later date I might just fit a decent one, for what I use it for this probably won’t happen but the option is there.
    My full size guitars include Taylor and Martin so I do know what the difference in quality is but for my purposes I got what was for me the best option!

    I bought the gs mini (rosewood) but had to return it - the es2 pickup was dreadful - i hate the appearance of the lx1e but its the most playable neck ive ever come across. What about the LX1RE is it better than LX1e? Plugged in - the LX!E sounds good but I have to confess the GS mini has the best unplugged sound of any small scale guitar (23inch) . I can carry the LX1E on my back all day with no problem. The GS mini in an aero case is as heavy as a ful size guitar and causes some pain or discomfort after 1 hour. Thats is why - despite the ridicule ( oh yes) - I carry my little martin everywhere. its effortless. YO umay have to factor in carrying a small amp ?

    You can not compare the little Martin to the GS mini. You want a fair comparison to the GS you need to compare it to the Martin Dreadnought jr. The little Martin and the baby Taylor are in the same category. What a stupid comparison of course the the GS mini is going to have a more full sound.

    This guy needs to learn one word: SETUP. Any problem he may have experienced with the Mini can EASILY be fixed with just a simple setup. And sorry, but the ES2 blows away anything by Fishman on acoustic-electric guitars, period. Maybe the guy needs better PA systems or acoustic amps.

      I have a AER Compact Mobile and 1 AER Compact 60 amp. They sound amazing for most guitars but not for the GS MINI though. Not sure why.
