Here's my explanation for the subway scene in Scream VI. If you watch closely, Ethan is very nonchalant about getting on the subway. I think his plan was to miss the subway so he could meet up with Quinn who was on the next subway. Mindy getting on their subway wasn't part of the plan. Her presence complicates their plan so Quinn tries to kill her but when Ethan sees that Mindy is still alive, his safest option is to help her and preserve his alibi. I might be giving the writers too much credit but that's the best way I can explain it
Word for Word, Bar for Bar (you stole this comment)
@@insaneity2640 its weird he complains about the writing and plot armor as if every scream movie doesnt have horrible writing and plot armor
Exactly, they still needed an alibi ans there are cameras on subways. actually a lot of the plot holes are explainable.
I agree!
Oh man, that still doesn’t make much sense.
20:18 The unrealistically empty hospitals in Scream 4 and 5 is like Halloween II where Laurie and some babies are apparently the only patients.
I think I remember some patients. But no point in showing everyone at the hospital ya know? Like I’m sure they had other patients on other floors.
Scream is arguably the best horror franchise when it comes to being consistently good movie after movie after movie.
Not only are you right. But yes yes you are right
The plot armor and massive plotholes didn't start until Scream 4 when they decided to cast two 5ft killers that in costume are 6 ft.
YESSSSS
Over all the movies, which is my favorite horror franchise, I am just glad Roger Jackson has stuck to being Ghost face. He brings so much life and character to what is essentially just a menacing voice.. I don’t feel the movies would be half as good if he didn’t nail that voice in the original Scream and then every installment after that. I am glad he’s getting more recognition these days and is being seen as more than just a “movie trivia fact”.
Agreed
Did you ever notice that when Sidney is trying to get out of the cop car and ghostface is “knocked out” you can actually see his eye looking at her almost as if he was toying with Sidney and it makes sense that he suddenly vanished after they escaped the car like if he was awake the whole time
Sidney?
@@cristianacevedo178 in scream 2
That’s always been my interpretation actually. I think it fits with Mickey too.
@@cristianacevedo178 yeah you know, the main protagonist for 95% of the series
@@cristianacevedo178 yeah check out the cop car scene again and look at the ghostface eyehole you can see Mickeys eye open looking at her
I am so thankful that Scream has not had a “Freddy’s Dead” or “The Next Generation” moment in 6 whole films. Solid list btw, Cody!
Honestly the Halloween Special at the end of Season 2 is Screams "Halloween Ends/Candyman 3" trash installment. But the second seasons great outside that special.
The show is not part of the movies
The Last Generation is a masterp...class in how to suck ass
Scream 5 was absolutely the Freddy’s Dead of the series. It was idiotic beyond comprehension.
Not only did 3 killers fail to kill 1 important character but they actively saved the 1 they could have killed.
I really am beginning to think Radio silence is drawing inspiration from scary movie
I loved the first 2 back in the day. I have great memories of those. The rest are good to me, but the first 2 will always have a special place in my heart. I was 16 in 97 so I was able to really enjoy it with my pals

I think the way Scream 4 is shot is meant to imitate how a lot of the 2000s remakes and reboots were shot. They often had a weird sweaty sheen to them.
I definitely agree. I just rewatched the remake of Friday the 13th and it had that exact same cinematography.
Least to beast:
3 - Not a fan of the hallucinations/dream sequences, but still fun.
5 - Retreads a bit too much ground, but still like the new characters
6 - Last act falls apart, but before that it’s immensely fun
2 - A strong sequel with gripping sequences, but also a couple campy ones
4 - Favorite killer, favorite metacommentary, favorite soundtrack, love the new characters. I just felt it could have been a bit scarier
1 - It’s close, but original is currently my favorite. Love almost everything about it, except for the way the killers are revealed, and a few other moments.
What don't you like about the original reveals?
My exact ranking too!
One thing I hate about the radio silence era for scream, killers are so obvious. The “so obvious” killer trick only worked with Billy in the original, stop trying to re create that magic for the love of god

I absolutely agree with you on Scream 4 not having the balls to end with Jill getting away with it and moving forward with the new cast. They didn’t even kill a single returning character, either.
And the funny thing is the original script did have Jill getting away with it, but the studio mandated a rewrite by the guy who did 3.
Well, a woman wrote Scream 3 so you just made that up. Good for you though dork
@@dustywaynemusic6297 no, that’s flagrantly untrue. Ehren Kruger wrote Scream 3. Sounds like you’re projecting your own tall tales.
@@gibramrivera-yv2lo I think you’re missing the point your interpretation is perfectly valid with the film we eventually got, but that’s not what Williamson wrote. In the end of his film Jill gets away with it, Sidney’s fate is unknown and Kirby survives. Which leads into Williamson’s 5.
When the studio butchers his film and ending, he leaves the project and his trilogy isn’t made.
Honestly now that I think about it, you never really do see Mickie character all that much... so when you go back and watch its like... yeah he's the killer the guy is never around

Great video! I loved Scream 6, but you are so right about that third act. It completely falls apart in the end.
I think the reason why Timothy’s cartoonish performance works in Scream 2, while the killer in Scream 6 doesn’t…is the fact that Mickey is over the top the entire movie. He comes off wolf in every scene, so when he is revealed, his performance works.
Scream 2 had my least favourite killer reveals because they were barely in the movie. When they were revealed the first time I watched the movie I remember saying 'who the hell are these people?'

This might be stupid to think of me but the thing about Ethan helping Mindy in the train I thought it was possible that they never actually planned to let her die. If Quinn stabbed Mindy, Ethan helped her get to safety and the rest of their plan went off without a hitch Ethan would have his alibi in the form of Mindy vouching for him. Maybe? I dunno. That’s the most logic I can make out of it.
I would think they wanted her to die because Bailey said they were going to hospital to kill gale and mindy in his monologue
yeah! that's what i assumed
They said in the monologue their next stop was to finish off Gale and Mindy so that doesn't make sense if they wanted to use her for an alibi.

Not that we give anyone an entire floor in the hospital but there are two different wings of the hospital that are closed or near empty at the place I work. It's creepy being in there. I always think of ghost face
1. Scream (1996)
2. Scream 4
3. Scream 3
4. Scream 2
5. Scream VI
6. Scream (2022)
Scream is stil the only horror franchise without a bad movie, I still really enjoy 5 and 6 even if they aren't perfect, none of the sequels are perfect but for the most part they are still above average films all things considered, at least for me.
That's a great point about Scream 4 ending. Imagine if they let Jill win and the next one Sidney and Gale became Ghostface fr and came back for her 🤷🏽♂️ oe something unique
Kevin Williamsons original idea was to have Jill win and live. Doesn't mean Sidney dies but Scream 4 would leave you with that cliffhanger of Sidney in the hospital hanging in the balance and Jill winning and then becoming hugely famous but also going far away from Woodsboro. Then he talked about how a new Ghostface would be killing people at Jill's college and would know what Jill did and basically toying With her and sending her messages saying that when this is all over they're gonna out her and how all the killings will be traced back to her and basically Ghostface would become the hunted. Also if you're wondering how Jill would win if Sidney survived, in the original Scream 4 script only the audience would be revealed that Jill is Ghostface not Sidney. So Jill would attack Sidney and try to kill her but not reveal who she is. So by the end of the movie everyone believes she's this new innocent final girl victim Survivor like Sidney when in reality she's actually Ghostface but only we know that.
He also talked about how the opening of his Scream 5 would feature a home Invasion type deal with Sidney and you don't know I'd it's Jill or the new Ghostface but it actually turns out to be a copycat. So basically what they did in Scream VI but a little different.
He also talked about Scream 6 would've focused on Gale and Deweys relationship and Scream 7 would be about Sidney.
Kevin Williamson had an entire new trilogy planned and he had big plans for Jill and Kirby but all the rewrites and studio interference made Scream 4 like Scream 3 go into an entirely new direction and when Scream 4 made the least amount of money from any of the Scream films, plans for a new trilogy were scrapped.
But personally I liked Kevin Willamsons ideas for his trilogy and I do think Jill was a fascinating character that would've been very interesting as the first Ghostface to survive and win and explore and I still think that needs to happen in this franchise to move things in a different direction and keep things fresh and new.
The only thing I can't stand about the Scream franchise is a lot of the obsessive overprotective fans, that defend the sloppy/bad writing and gaping plot holes. Such a turn off.
It’s funny you mentioned in Scream 4 how cool it would be if it ended with Jill living because that’s exactly what Kevin Williamson wanted to end it!
Good for you Cody for not falling into the pit of ranking the new film high due to hype. I also really loved the first 2/3 of 6, but that third act seriously holds the film down and holds some of the worst acting/writing in any of the installments. No one says it really sucks, but it has problems. It’s still very entertaining and fun, that ending just hurts.
So glad Cody tells it straight!
Scream 4 is my least favorite but had the same feeling as you when I walked out of Scream 6. I was like, "I think I liked this movie, but I'm not sure. Where do I put this??"
But, ultimately, the first two acts of that film I think are sooooo good that it puts it above my least favorite imo. I just can't believe they dropped the 3rd act soooo hard.
Great video Cody. I wonder what it is in the pre credit sequence that tipped you on to who the killer was in Scream 6?
100% agree with your rankings and your analysis 👏👏👏
Scream 2 is my favorite. Has been since 1997. Shame you left the sequel camp, but number is respectable.
The problem I had with VI is that how thru the entire movie, people get stabbed so badly and they can still run, fight, climb ladders and still be alive, spoiler, but one gets stabbed in the mouth, the knife is twisted and he is still alive, it was very irritating, other than that I lived everything about the new entry, maybe over time I'll get over the flaws
I watched scream 6 last night and so many things bothered me when Quinn gets hit across the face with a frying pan then next day she has absolutely no marks or bruising🧐
@@laquitasmith6774 hey that yall movie lol
Out of all of them , out of all the 6, they are all really consistent. Non of them are bad at All and I couldn't Agree more with you on that saying.
I love that almost everyone hates the damn hospital ending in Scream 4 and felt it should have ended at the cameras flashing in Jill's face as she's being taken to the hospital.
I would only add a scene where they show Sidney woke up & has amnesia.
Would've been a great starting point for the next movie.
Hell yeah another ranking video
The most annoying thing about Scream 6 is not just its existence but it’s seeing everyone update their rankings of the franchise and they always rank Scream 3 at the bottom. So tired of the hate Scream 3 continues to get. To me it’s one of the most underrated sequels ever and I’m NOT taking it back!
That’s why I love and prefer scream as a trilogy because it followed one narrative, Sydney and her mother. The killers and their motives was all based around Sydney’s mother and it came full circle and ended with scream 3. To hell with the rest! MAKE IT STOP PLEASE
you can't stop it so move on
It’s the worst, sorry I don’t dislike it though
I wholeheartedly agree with you! I really like it as a trilogy as well. I was really hoping this latest Scream would bring it back around to the original story. Yes, I'm one of those who is holding out hope Stu somehow survived the first one and comes back with a vengeance! It felt like 6 really set it up for that with maybe the motive being the fact that Billy always gets the recognition and never Stu, hence his motive for going after his daughter. Anyway, that's what I was hoping for.
YESSS Scream 3 has always been one of my favorites and it still shocks me to this day all the hate that it gets and bottom rankings

@@07foxmulder Tension does not require unpredictability. The sound design, editing, sets, music, were all executed incredibly well in almost all the set pieces for scream 6 and used the setting very well. Just because you were apparently able to guess the survivors doesn't mean it didn't have great tension. For example I knew gale would survive, but the writing and voice acting of ghostface still made it incredibly tense for me.

As a traveling healthcare worker who’s worked at literally 20 hospitals, I can confirm dedicating a floor to one patient isn’t at all realistic
Would definitely love to see a reranking of the ghost faces! (Sorry didn’t mean to post this under the community tab 💀)
I love scream 3. I agree that 6 started off strong then the reveal broke my heart. I wanted something stronger. However, did you realize that the real killers were the sisters. She leaves the last mask.
Ohhhh now that is genius, Sam left the Billy mask at the crime scene (or in front of) where they butchered Richie's family 😮
@@AkiTerry and you know how movies now focus more on the antagonist. Almost like they are the stars center front (joker) etc
I think it's s more to signal the resolution of her character arc. She was struggling with her genetic inclination. She holds the mask of her homicidal father and then she's called by her sister. Thats when she leaves the mask behind showing that she won't go down that path due to her connection.
Unpopular opinion: Scream 3 is not the worst film in the franchise. My ranking worst to best is: Scream (2022), Scream 2, Scream VI, Scream 3, Scre4m, and obviously Scream (1996) is the best one.
I've worked in a hospital and yeah, it can be that empty and patients can get their own floor, especially in a small town hospital.
My ranking, best to least favorite, because there is no worst.
1. Scream 1, it made me a horror fan, it has the best opening in horror, still has some flaws so not a perfect movie.

5. Scream 2, so many issues with this one, like the opening with the kill in the bathroom, the Stab clip with Tori Spelling, the killer quietly and quickly leaving the cop car without being noticed, and worst of all, the cringey I Think I Love You scene.
6. Scream 5, has the 2nd best opening, no issues with this one, love Amber as a killer but not Richie, nostalgia keeps this one from going above 2.

WOW Cody! Your thoughts on Scream 4 are mine exactly even to the Ending and how they had no ballz to execute it with Jill getting what she wanted. And Scream 6 had so many missed opportunities and got cute saving Chad and Mindy and GAle. There! I said it lol.
My personal ranking is
1. Scream (1996)
2. Scream 2 (1997)
3. Scream 6 (2023)
4. Scream (2022)
5. Scream 3 (2000)
6. Scream 4 (2011)
If I’m ranking them it’s
1. Scream 1
2. Scream 2
3. Scream 4
4. Scream 3
5. Scream 5
6. Scream 6
