ERNIE IS AWESOME ...I HAVE LOVED THIS SONG EVERY TIME HE HAS SUNG IT BUT I FIND THIS IS THE BEST....ITS PURE SINGING , NO SHOWMANSHIP ...HE JUST SINGS HIS HEART OUT ...I KNOW HE MUST PLEASE HIS AUDIENCE AND ENTERTAIN ...I MUST ALSO SAY THAT THE TRIBUTE TO THE CATHEDRALS BT ERNIE AND SIGNATURE SOUND IS SOME OF THE BEST SINGING I'VE EVER HEARD ...THEY ARE AWESOME...
The Cathedrals were just a special quartet that sang from their hearts and sought His Glory and not their own. Glenn or George could have each gone solo and been successful but I so respect them for staying together. They also had a way of utilizing the most of each member for the good of the quartet and the member. I love both Glenn and George, Danny Funderburk, Bobby Clark, Mark Trammel, and Ernie Haase. I so wish I could have seen them live but I can't wait to see them in the biggest and best Homecoming of them all! God, thru His Love gave us this special gift of music that when done from the Spirit is so beautiful and powerful! Praise God!
One of the altime greatest hymns ever sung by arguably the greatest quartet to ever perform. I love this group so much. I grew up listening to them at a young age and when they retired it broke my heart. Thank you God for the legacy of this legendary group that inspire singers like me til this day
I have loved this song for years!! and not just this song, but this particular rendition of it, by Ernie and the Cathedrals... makes my heart POUR OUT in thankfulness to our Lord Jesus Christ... Saviour of the world. Thank you, volscot :) God bless you so much!!
I still remember the day I put my trust fully in Jesus and asked him to save me. My life was changed. I was only nine and went to church, but I was on my wy to Hell and a meaningless life. But Jesus gave me heaven and a meaning to life although i don't deserve. i will forever love him. Thank you God for what you did for me and all who accept your gift.
i've known mark since i was little. great guy -- he's an excellent vocalist and his heart is really into what he does. not my style of music, but whenever he's around touring, i do go see him.
The title sums it all - Oh What A Savior - videos like this keep reminding us to keep focused on the things that are above as the things below are temporal
This is my favorite rendition of Oh What a Savior. I love all the performances I've seen by Ernie, but here it is pure singing and nothing more. I understand performance and presentation and audience appeal and all of that, but I love the pure singing, where the performer doesn't get in the way of the song. Just like an author can get in the way of a story, a singer can get in the way of a song. In this version, I really see the Savior. In the other versions, I see a little more of Ernie.
Jerri Menges You are so right. There is another RUclips, made many years later, in which Ernie wears a different-colored suit (to stand out) and get s standing ovation. I would be mortified to get a standing-O for something I did for the glory of God!
I love this song!Ernie you look scared in that Video! But you sound GREAT!!Keep up the good work!Thank God you followed your dream! You Rock!Littlebit12 from the EH&SS Message Board!
Rosie Roselle would thoroughly enjoy this performance just as spectacular as his own!!!!!never heard Ernie do it that outstanding since, and that's okay cause GOD wants to hear us all,as the last verse, the chorus,in that GREAT CITY,PRAISE JESUS FOREVER AND EVER
Wes Sallee I agree with you about Ernie. This is the first time I heard this version, but before this I still love him and signature sound singing this same song at the concert in Africa. I have listened to it so many times, and his singing is so powerful that I can close my eyes and picture myself sitting right there on the front row. If you read this then listen to him in Africa and let me know what you think. And remember that God Loves us all and God Bless You and Yours.
Ernie sings this so sincerely and GeorgeYounce is his father-in-law. Talk about pressure!..Prettiest verson I've heard. The song is very emotional anyway. Gwen Weaver
I bet if youtube was around when George Younce and the Cathedrals started singing, people would have been (and probably were) saying the same things I'm reading in the comments here about Ernie. Everyone has their preferences in what they want to hear from whoever is singing. I enjoy the 'old' and the 'new' stuff. Haven't you during your life ever felt like trying something 'new'? Is the music bringing glory to God? If yes, then maybe that's what God wants Ernie and SS to sing.
Amen. Now Ernie has changed a lot since this recording. In fact he became George's son in law! go see Ernie and SS with this song. I love Danny Funderbuck but you know we love a good quartet . I will say Ernie is no Rosie. for those of us who are that old well will never be a quartet like the Statesmen and the blackwood Brothers. HOWEVER we can move on and enjoy a new generation! Praise God they know the Lord and are not down the road to hell.
@FOOFOOKITTY I have a SSQ CD and I listen to it quite often, but my opinion still stands about Ernie being more show now with the SSQ. My wife actually likes them more than I do. I just think that the Cathedrals were more southern gospel than SSQ. Ernie is a wonderful singer and in my opinion he was the best Tenor singer of all ther tenor singers that the Cathedrals had. Oh What a Savior is his signature song. I just wish he would go back to singing it like he does in this video.
I just love Mark Trammell, but then I just love everyone who past through the Mighty Kingsmen Quartet under the guidance of BIG Jim Hamill. I may be bias, but .......😊
My step dad's first cousin was Jim Hammill 🎶 Their mothers were sisters. You sure can see the family resemblance. I never got to meet Jim but I always admired him and still do !
@FOOFOOKITTY I don't have a degree in vocal performance or anything like that. But you can trust me when I tell you that I know a bellow when I hear one. I've been around southern gospel my entire life and I have heard more bellows than I care to mention..LOL..Ernie's voice is a little stronger today than it was back when this video was made. If the people in the audience thought it was a bellow, Oh What A Savior wouldn't be his signature song today..
This would have been circa 1990 when Ernie first joined, before Mark Trammell left. I still say that despite the later Cathedral's versions and the Signature Sound versions, Ernie sang this song the best in his early days.
@Bcroft39 I guess there's no way we're gonna agree about that note, but if you listen to his later performances of that song, his transitions between lower notes to the high ones are much smoother. He's clearly developed his voice, improved his technique, and become a wonderful presenter of the Gospel thru music.
WOW!! So much argueing over gospel music. devotionpromotion is a 19yr old young man that wishes Ernie would go back to his older style of singing, He tells that in here and you guys jump all over him. I for one agree with you devotionpromotion!!! I also agree with calvarykidamen that some singers change their style to gain more fans. It becomes more of a show than the praising of our lord to some singers.
@Bcroft39 Fiddle-de-dee! His voice in the SSQ videos is even more wonderful, IMHO ... and frankly, I think he sings with more passion and conviction in those than he does here (when he still really a "baby"!) Anyway, regardless of the "show" SSQ does, they bring the Joy of the Lord to their listeners as well as the Gospel! Hope they keep singing for a long, long time!
Great Video, Great Song, Fantastic Group. There's no limiations of who and what method God uses. The intent is to evangelize!!! If that is accomplishedm there's no need to critique rbp02
Danny gave a cross to my Dad who passed away last year. I wear that cross every day. His voice gives me chills.
It does me also.
Awe man, yeah, I missed Danny being apart of the Cathedrals back in the day but Ernie brought a different kinda of light to the Cathedrals sound! Lol

WOW! It's just wonderful to see & hear Ernie sing what has become his signature song so soon after joining The Cathedrals.
Ernie's Best listen to it a 100 times still is just amazing
Very talented Ernie Haaaae!! I think he sounds even better nowadays too!!!!
I love that beautiful, meaningful song. Ernie does it right!
One of the altime greatest hymns ever sung by arguably the greatest quartet to ever perform. I love this group so much. I grew up listening to them at a young age and when they retired it broke my heart. Thank you God for the legacy of this legendary group that inspire singers like me til this day
Cathedrals were the best group and always will be the best group.
I completely agree with that. I had a period in the mid 90’s where there were about all I listened to. Wore those tapes out
This was when Ernie knew how to comb his hair! Great Song Great Savior!! Thank you Lord... for even me and all of you
I have loved this song for years!! and not just this song, but this particular rendition of it, by Ernie and the Cathedrals... makes my heart POUR OUT in thankfulness to our Lord Jesus Christ... Saviour of the world. Thank you, volscot :) God bless you so much!!

He saved a lost wretched sinner like me!!Oh ! What a Saviour !!
i've known mark since i was little. great guy -- he's an excellent vocalist and his heart is really into what he does. not my style of music, but whenever he's around touring, i do go see him.
love this group and this song. where would we be if he had not given his lifes blood for us.
Gospel music is the best
I'm Big Into NWOBHM, 50's, 60's, 70;s, 80's, And Some 90's But Yes, Gospel Is Right Up There As Well!
Three of these gospel legends have passed on. What a loss. They are greatly missed.
Ernie gives me goose bumps when he sings. He has a very powerful voice. Love this video.
Chills... Oh Praise the Lord!!!
ALL I CAN SAY IS OH WHAT A SAVIOR !!!!!! HE SAVED A POOR LOST SOUL LIKE ME !!!! ERNIE DOES A WONDER JOB ON THIS SONG !!!! THE ENDING IS GREAT !!!!
Gives me goosebumps. You can't beat a good 4part harmony.
I agree!. Music is a gift given by God that when used for His Glory it will reach man were no words can.
The title sums it all - Oh What A Savior - videos like this keep reminding us to keep focused on the things that are above as the things below are temporal
one of the truly great gospels groups
This is my favorite rendition of Oh What a Savior. I love all the performances I've seen by Ernie, but here it is pure singing and nothing more. He is awesome.. What a voice GOD gave him!
Ernie makes the vocals so powerful
Beautiful.. Oh how I love the Cathedrals. I think a little bit of Heaven comes down when I hear them sing!!
Wheh! Makes the hair raise on the back of my neck. What a blessing.
I love this song! If you listen with head phones it is amazing
What a blessing and encouragement this song is!
I love the Cathedrals!I could listen to Ernie sing all the time he's great!
I love this song!Ernie you look scared in that Video! But you sound GREAT!!Keep up the good work!Thank God you followed your dream!
You Rock!Littlebit12 from the EH&SS Message Board!
I sure wish I could see them one more time...there within the spirit of the Lord with my daughter...and I will see Jesus and them
Nobody does it like the Cathedrals and Ernie Haase. Oh what a Savior.

Praise God.Ernie Haase, I have been listening to you for years...What an amazing gift of song,. Surly you are favored by God...Thank you
The Mighty Cats! What a blessing. Thanks for posting!
My favorite is listening to Danny Thunderbird singing, "He Touched Me." I would love to meet him one day.
Danny Funderburk
😂
Praise God, I needed to hear this...
This song has been running thru my head lately, love the old hymns.Reminds of me the small country Church that I grew up going to.
I love this wonderful Gospel Song.🙏🙏🙏💯❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😘😘😘🎶🎤🎶🎤👌
Ernie sings this so sincerely and GeorgeYounce is his father-in-law. Talk about pressure!..Prettiest verson I've heard. The song is very emotional anyway. Gwen Weaver
That is correct. Ernie confirmed it to me after he saw this video.
maravilhosa é esta exibição do cathedrals!
Que Deus seja glorificado por canções como esta!
Oh, to be in their presence and listen, just one time. Amen
I also have him on the Live in Nashville video of the Cat's singing this song. Wonder which one was first?
And I'll join that chorus in that bright city!!!!
For sure . With all the love of God
Oh yeah. I saw him 4 days ago and he still has it.
I love them best performance of this song.. he gave it all for me..

Oh he is indeed our Savior.
Ernie Haase And Rosie Rozzel Are The Only One Who Sings This Song With Feelings And Spritual Way. Love Them Both
Check out Squire Parsons singing it with the Gaither gang ! 😮

Powerful!
Hermoso, celestialmente hermoso!!!!
As he got older and sang o what a Savior it became more than words. U could feel and hear difference. In this 1 is just words. NO connection
OH WHAT A SAVIOUR INDEED...I LOVE JESUS
If that don't get you going , I don't know what will ! Oh what a Savior !
Its song number 5 on Climbing Higher And Higher CD, which I have
I just love Mark Trammell, but then I just love everyone who past through the Mighty Kingsmen Quartet under the guidance of BIG Jim Hamill.
I may be bias, but .......😊
My step dad's first cousin was

Yep. Smooooth.

Ernie Haas made a French translation of Oh! What A Savior
I can't remember Vestal's last name but she could sing this song so amazing!
Great Video, Great Song, Fantastic Group.
There's no limiations of who and what method

Love that Ernie Haas...looks like Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) but man can he sing.
Classic
