  • #Vajradhara #Buddha and #Samantabhadra Buddha have the same basic function but belong to two different Buddhist systems within the #Vajrayana Buddhist Tradition. Vajradhara belongs to the #Sarma tradition and Samantabhadra belongs to the #Nyingma tradition. The two are only physically similar in that both are typically blue in colour with a single face and two hands. Vajradhara has the two arms crossed at the heart holding a vajra and bell. Samantabhadra has the two hands in the lap in a meditation gesture. Both are seated in Vajra posture. Sometimes they appear embracing a consort. The significant difference in appearance is Vajradhara is wearing heavenly garments and jewelry while Samantabhadra is naked with no garments and no jewelry.

      @@Naturehood3_8 why not? I think i did get it, at the end of the day its like two different approaches, two different sets of dialects.
      Its like, why there are five symbolic budhas but there are six realms.
      Just as the very different great two linages: nagarjunas and asangas linages, the vast and the profund linages, the manjushri´s and maitreya´s linages.
      Now what I would like to know is if the buddha himself ever mention a representation of the meaning of vajradhara-samantabadra.

      @@howdareyou5800 Do you realise that Buddhism, Is a adoption of a much older belief system?
      None of the Buddhas teachings were actually written down for at least 300 or so years after, Shakyamuni died. As it was all spread by oral teachings.
      So we can't ever be absolutely certain that any of the texts, canons, sutras, and parables, are 100 % accurate.
      What we can be certain of though is the Buddha, (the Shakyamuni manifestation of him). Learnt his craft and mastery, from studying under many gurus, yogis, sages, holy men, and indidgenious Shamans of his day. Shakyamuni travelled far and wide, and collected together many different beliefs and doctrines. And then formulated them in his own mind, to put him on his path to enlightenment.
      However like I say. We don't know if any of the Pali-Canon is true or not. Or whether it has been deliberately written in way to keep its students under a conformatists dogmatic mindset.
      I find it a much better approach, to go much deeper beyond the idea of one Buddha, one teaching. And go right to the heart of the teachings that Shakyamuni himself learnt from. And that would be indigenous Animism, Shamanism, and the Bon religion. Because at least then you are going straight to the root of the teachings.

    I've just realized that in the Nyingma system everything is the opposite. In the Sarma systems Vajradhara have sambhogakaya ornaments while the five tathagatas have (in most cases) buddha form. Same in the Japanese Taizo-kai mandala. Mahavairocana have ornaments, the other tathagatas don't. But in Nyingma it is Samantabhadra who has the buddha form and the tathagatas have the ornaments.

    I wonder if you could shed any light on the following: Mindrolling monastery's refuge tree has Buddha Vajradhara as the central figure in spite of being a Nyingma lineage. Most other Nyingma lineages have Guru Rinpoche (Longhen Nyingtik) as the central object of refuge or Samantabhadra (Palyul). Thangkas of this refuge tree (Minling) are impossible to find on the internet.

      @Ordo1980 Год назад +2

      I think it is mainly because the Nyingma school is not that centralized. Plus the terma lineages have additional systems as well.

      @@Rosedeclemence well at any time you have to start your practice and initiation in a linage made out of wisdom and compassion towards all beings but being specially open to those who want to get teachings.
      If you mean it by it being merchandise, yeah cool.

    So to clarify: Samantabhadra is the Dharmakaya and Vajradhara is the Sambhogakaya of the same Adibuddha; according to some?
