    Just the fact that Wix allows me to customize everything. To literally put anything anywhere on the site without being restricted to dedicated modules or whatever. And it has a working Undo feature (Weebly frustrated the heck out of me with that). It is far superior.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Doug, thanks for your feedback. Sure, the pixel freedom is one of Wix's strong points for many. But some people prefer a more structured approach like Weebly's - but I see your point :-)

      Hi Akeem. Thanks for sharing your feedback. With Wix you'll get a mobile editor to make sure that your website display well on smaller screens. If you've already tried this, could you please send an example of the site that doesn't scale well and let us know what devices you tried on? Thanks

    Sadly this came across as an ad for wix, which makes me think there is much more to the story. The categories seem biased to wix, and it was clear from the beginning who the winner would be.

      Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback. Comparing the ecommerce modules of both providers would be a looooong video, perhaps we'll create one at some point.
      It's true that Wix isn't responsive, but you can create your own mobile version for smartphones, this is actually more flexible (and more work). About the UX issues in various platforms, I haven't personally experienced them, so could you give us an example or elaborate on this issues please :-)

    • @ThomasWilliamson
      @ThomasWilliamson 5 лет назад

      @@tooltester Thanks for asking! Wix certainty isn't perfect, and a lot of pro photographers are using and endorsing Squarespace at the moment. My main problem is, at least for now, I'm not seeing many of my images from my website appear in Google images search. I worry that the Wix Pro Gallery, as awesome as it is for the design of the website, actually makes it hard for Google to find the images.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  5 лет назад +2

      I see... Actually Wix changes your email file name when the images are uploaded into their platform. In short, if your image name was big-tree.png, they'll change it to something cryptic like 09a0ab7~mv2.png. As you can imagine this isn't perfect for SEO, but adding the alternative text (alt) to all your images should help ranking in Google images. Squarespace Personal plan doesn't support code injection last time I checked. So keep that in mind because this is quite limiting. You have to buy the "business" package for it to be available.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  5 лет назад

      Yes, that's right! Squarespace doesn't allow access to their source code with the personal plan, as you said, you'll need a Business package. For more information on plans' differences you can check our guide: www.websitetooltester.com/en/reviews/squarespace-review/pricing/

    having a grid may be in some situations more restricting to use, but what else would you want?
    Pretty much all of the professionally made websites actually use a grid system.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  4 года назад

      Hi there. You can also have a grid showing with Wix to help you with the layout. The difference is that with Squarespace the elements stick to a grid and sometimes you can't place them exactly where you want. Wix gives you total freedom. But for some cases (e.g. not a good eye for design), the Squarespace approach can be easier.

    But y’all should compare Wix to Wordpress. Both Wix and Squarespace are akin to a walled garden. For those not worried about investing a little bit more time, I would’ve chosen wordpress as it beats both in pricing, seo, flexibility, plugins and widget options, and (with tweaking) page speed.

    This video is okay but it's not very fair. Squarespace does let you customize SEO for blogs and metadata in galleries beyond just alt text. If you notice at 2:24, you can see up top above the blog post title a button for content, options, location and social. Under options you can customize your title and you can add your descriptions, optimize for SEO and more, you just have to know how to play around with it. I will concede on some design features wix allows for more freedom. But unless you're an experienced web designer or UX designer this could do you more harm than good. Additionally wix doesn't auto-format for mobile, which is a huge risk for your business since most people search and reach first impression through mobile devices anyway. Wix apps are good, better than Squarespace, but Squarespace does have extensions (or apps if you will) that you can connect to your site, it's a newer feature but they have it. Here's the final summary: Wix is great if you know what you're doing, what to plug in, and how to maximize it's potential, but Squarespace gives you the opportunity to maximize your own potential even with little knowledge of how to use. I recommend taking the 14 day trial of Squarespace and the free wix site and see which you like more. If you're not a professional marketer, SEO manager or web designer - take your time and focus on the details instead of the flash.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  3 года назад +1

      Hi Jose-Noel. Thanks for your comment! I think most of what you're saying about Wix and Squarespace makes sense. Regarding Squarespace's SEO, I think our video is a bit outdated (we will fix this with our next video update). Back then, Squarespace would only let you customize some of the SEO options (e.g. the SEO title was the same as the regular post title), but they have fixed this. You can find a more updated post on Squarespace's SEO here: www.websitetooltester.com/en/blog/squarespace-seo/.

    You can tell just from the tone of his voice that he's biased toward Wix. Even in parts that Squarespace wins the point, the tone of his voice when he talks about Wix isn't as "negative" as it is when Wix wins the point and he talks about Squarespace.

      Thanks for your feedback! I don't think that's the case but if you prefer Squarespace that's completely fine! This comparison is based on features and we found Wix to be a bit stronger. Of course, Squarespace is also a very good website builder that has a lot of strong points.

    • @tooltester

      Hi Mark, oh no, that wouldn't work. Squarespace's online store is meant to be run by one seller. You should probably look into Shopify instead, they seem to have some marketplace apps.

    • @tooltester

      Hi there. I honestly don't think that an iPad or a phone is the most efficient way to use a website builder. I would suggest you to actually use a desktop. For example, placing elements and changing options can be tedious without a mouse.

      @@okonkwo5 Squarespace's templates are responsive. This means the adapt automatically. This can be good, but when there's something that you want to change, it won't be possible (order, spacing, etc.). Therefore, I find Wix more flexible than Squarespace.

  • @stanley2681

    you are overlooking one crucial aspect: wix templates are not responsive! so you need to edit for web and mobile separately. Wix templates overall look less professional than squarespace when it comes to design.

    • @tooltester
      @tooltester  4 года назад

      Hi Stanley, thanks for your feedback. We focused on the main differences, and it would be difficult to pick a winner for the designs and templates, both are great.
      It's certainly true that the mobile version of Wix is not responsive and may involve a bit of extra-work, but it's also more flexible as you can adapt the mobile page to your needs. IMO both approaches have pros and cons.
      About the design, it's a personal call. One could say that Squarespace's templates look a bit better, but honestly I think Wix's are great too and they have hundreds of them.

      @@ariela_ it's normal to still get red marks when you first upload a post, as the template itself won't automatically fix content issues. @@tooltester That's the problem with comparisons: they're usually seen as market/code research to improve on the competition, so it's hard to track who's on top from one moment to the next. The only thing that has me wary about Squarespace is the loss of data when cancelling payments, at least according to this video. They may have changed that.
