Awesome video! Picked up a lot from here. My guitar is always tuned in open. I can't play any other way now. Standard tuning sounds so drab in comparison. I got the same issue explaining my pick hand too. Thanks for the great video, your style seems closest to mine that I can find, other than Messiahsez, who is pretty awesome too.

Hi Sophie. To answer you question, it doesn't matter what type of guitar is used. The technique used is the same. Solid body, hollow body electric, acoustic, its all the same. I don't know why you can't find a person using a hollow body electric? They are commonly used all over the world.

Hi Russ. My answer to your question is. Open G or open E. Both of these are used in thousands of songs. It depends on what you like. Whatever your favorite Artists are will determine what key to choose. The Rolling Stones Keith Richards uses open G often in their songs. The second thing is you might want to buy a cheap used acoustic for a second guitar as to keep it tuned for slide.

Thank you for your tips. I was thinking open G or D which might be used with capo. I have a number of guitars to spare but too lazy to practice or master several different tunings at the same time. So i just try to figure out which tuning would be most useful and easy to play. Thanks.

Hi chokicou. The slide is a personal thing. Also the strings you use will effect the sound. So its a sound that you like that matters. There is no better slide. I used an alligator head in one of my songs and it sounded great to me.

thanks for d tip, the thing about slide guitar in open tuning is normally it's quite tiresome to change different open tuning all the time. so my question is, if you have to play in one open tuning only, what is the open tuning key that is the most versatile, useful?

Thanks for this. I use a Brass slide & and I love open D! Ry Cooder's Vigilante man got me hooked on open D. Do you have any more great tunes in open D? I'm always looking to expand my songbook for open D since it's kinda a pain to tune it there and I only bring one guitar! That said I like to have a good 30-45 mins of D material...I never remember it all! I also try to make the tunes sound very different so as not to detract from fact that they are all the same open D tuning. Thanks again!

Don't press down very hard at all. The thing you are calling the metal bar is known as a slide. It can be made up of many different things. Look close to what I am using and you will see that it is a glass bottle. Look into my video files and you will find lessons with explanations of this. Hope this helped.

True, it is a brand name. However, for many years ‘Dobro’ has been widely accepted as a generic term for ‘resonator’. I’m sure this guy knows the difference. I’ve heard many people call their guitars Strats when they are not made by Fender. Perhaps ‘Dobro style’ would be more appropriate. I’ve played a Dobro, now made by Epiphone, is it an Epi or a Dobro? :)
In Britain we call all vacuum cleaners Hoovers, same thing - people refer to the name of the first one or the most famous.

Is this a Dobro Hound dog he's playing here? I've seen cheapo looking Hound Dogs but they tend to not sound a s good as his.
