A very good demonstration on how locks work. Thank you very much. May be I can now go and pick the drug dealer's lock on next street to locate the stuff he took from me. Joke aside, I realized that there is a "Master Key" option in my local hardware store. It is called a battery powered angle grinder. My garage was broken into despite being padlocked. So I went and bought an "unbreakable" padlock mad of toughened steel at three time the price of a normal lock. I went away and foolishly believed that my garage will be fine. When I came home, the entire lock was gone, and the garage was cleaned out comprehensively, again! This video will help me to break my own lock, but burglars will not bother with messing around. They would go for the "nuclear" option, ie. an angle grinder.

GREAT JOB ON YOUR EXPLANATION. I always wondered how those lock picks worked. TV shows like THE ROCKFORD FILES and HOGAN'S HEROES do a lot of lock picking and now I can understand the fundamentals.
You can say that about a lot of different things, however, hopefully this will encourage lock manufactures to make more secure locks. They have the technology and ability but they don't do it
Sounds like something a criminal would say to make us think he's not a criminal. Stay where you are, I've alerted the police and they are on their way.
@@retsinim84 I 've worked in a few garages that had rather handy tools that would take the lock right out of your door with relative ease. If it's a steel door, the tools will take the cylinder out of the lock in about 5 seconds.
@@jpjpjp453 I was only joking. I think most house doors are a joke to begin with because they usually have Windows that can be broken to access the inside of the locks. If there are no windows someone could just brute force their way in. The lock is only on the door to make my wife feel better, haha.
Makes me remember when I was a child and I wanted to get something from my parents’s room, which was locked while they were at work. I did not know how lockpicking worked and stuck a piece of wood in there, which broke inside. I got in trouble.
Working on and around many different vehicles almost every day means I often need the services of a locksmith. I usually can't afford a locksmith and I attempt to do the work myself. Of course, the main purpose of owning and learning how to use a gun is to do just that when the appropriate situation calls for it..
Don't bother. Just access it from underneath. Of course you have to dig a tunnel and bust through some concrete and cut some rebar but that's much easier than trying to pick the vault. Also, no alarms underneath.

Angle grinders are a great tool lol
Excellent video. Concise, visually informative, and some great examples. I Subbed to your channel, thanks for your time
Thank you for the kind words. If you have any questions feel free to ask or if you can think of a video I can make to make things more clear let me know too :)

ive been trying to find a video that can explain on how to do this with visual demonstration put in a simple easy to understand way...FINALLY.. i been wanting to gain this skill but aint had much pratice still ... most people just give a review but dont show how and the ones that do show usually blabber ON AND ON.. AND OOONN... drives me crazy i did skip a couple minutes of your video to get to part i wanted/needed to see but still i gotta say yours is best so far ive seen
Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad it helped!
I love how you explain everything in detail for us. I watched others but you did the best job for us showing us how it works. Thank you I am subscribed. I love to learn everything picking, forging but I never break the law just learning.
Thank you for the kind words
GREAT JOB ON YOUR EXPLANATION. I always wondered how those lock picks worked. TV shows like THE ROCKFORD FILES and HOGAN'S HEROES do a lot of lock picking and now I can understand the fundamentals.
Thank you for the kind words, I am glad it helped!
Oh good. I just tossed an old round storage lock in my trash because I couldn't get it open. Now I have something to play with.
I wish you luck, the sport is fun to get into
Really cool to see the mechanics and understand how it works, but I I can't help but wonder how many criminals are watching this.
You can say that about a lot of different things, however, hopefully this will encourage lock manufactures to make more secure locks. They have the technology and ability but they don't do it
How do we know you're not a criminal? See how that works?
Sounds like something a criminal would say to make us think he's not a criminal. Stay where you are, I've alerted the police and they are on their way.
They already know, they learn this when inside.
I am criminal and now I got gifts for Christmas. Good thing Ring doorbells are only in the front door.
This is by far the best video I found .
thank you for the kind words!
About time a recommended tube video that is actually not a time waste
Thanks for checking it out and I'm glad it was hopeful :-)
Thanks so much for teaching the whole world how to rob me blind.
Thanks for checking out the video. Luckily you need to be more worried about bolt cutters in reality which require less training
@@HelpfulLockPicker how would you open the door to my house with bolt cutters? haha
Not for nothing, but locks are only made to keep honest people out.!
I can't wait for my neighbour to go out of town on business, he makes his wife wear a chastity belt while he is gone.
It seems like you need to get practicing
Lol
Makes me remember when I was a child and I wanted to get something from my parents’s room, which was locked while they were at work. I did not know how lockpicking worked and stuck a piece of wood in there, which broke inside.
I got in trouble.
It is never a good idea to pick locks in use. Thanks for checking it out!
Working on and around many different vehicles almost every day means I often need the services of a locksmith. I usually can't afford a locksmith and I attempt to do the work myself. My success rate as a self taught hack locksmith is less than 50/50.😒☹️ I'm very confident I'll be able to improve that success rate after learning from you how tumbler and pin locking mechanisms work and how they can be picked. Thank you dude.
Thanks for sharing
This has to be the one of the easiest locks to pick I've ever seen. Regardless, very educational for those who are new to such.
Thank you for checking it out
Wow,That’s how they opened my house.
Kebede Buna You don't want to pick locks in use but sadly many common locks open this easily. However, statistically speaking thieves don't pick locks. Are you interested in getting into Locksport?
@@HelpfulLockPicker I had a feeling you shouldn't pick locks in use, but I'm not exactly sure why. Why shouldn't you? That's actually the main reason a lot of us watch these lock picking Tut's, so we know how to get in when we're locked out or have forgotten our keys 😁 Though it's interesting to know there's such a thing as Locksport!
@@nattybynature1262 Kinda obvious that it's a rule of thumb just like any tool/skill that can be used for detrimental purposes... Take firearms for example... #1 rule is to never point a gun (loaded or unloaded) at another person. Of course, the main purpose of owning and learning how to use a gun is to do just that when the appropriate situation calls for it..

No interest in picking locks but now I know how locks work and how they are picked. Cool video, thanks
thanks for checking it out and I'm glad it helped you understand
Thank you for showing me how to get into my sweet granny's lock box she owes me money after breaking my piggy bank and taking out my $20.25
That sounds like a poor personal practice and granny won't be happy
Actually she will be very happy we are Gypsies
Do a video on entering a bank vault.
I do not
Don't bother. Just access it from underneath. Of course you have to dig a tunnel and bust through some concrete and cut some rebar but that's much easier than trying to pick the vault. Also, no alarms underneath.
Real public service announcement there dude
Thanks
This is such a good classic video. I ordered my vice and it arrives tomorrow so I'll be able to focus on technique and filming my practice sessions. It's hard to admit it but I never realized until the time came for me to start filming my own LegalLockPicker channel how much time is actually involved in making these videos, and I'm only using an iPhone and stage lights.
I'm also going to with your permission put links and references to your videos from mine to help illustrate where some ideas came from and hopefully continue to expand the community. Also, thank you for every minute of your time you spent reviewing my video, I appreciate it.
If you would like to put links to my videos that is okay with me but I would prefer that you don't download my video and use it to supplement yours.
I am going to try to mention your channel this week in my Lock Sport Update so hopefully that will help you get started :)
@@HelpfulLockPicker no of course not, thank you
Great tip on how to retrieve property the neighbors "borrowed" 5yrs ago! 😁👈
just remember to never pick locks in use :-)
As soon as I get out of jail I'm going to try that and do it the right way.
That doesn't sound like a great personal practice.

Thanks to Peter McKinnon for randomly getting me obsessed with picking locks
The lock that he picked was a master lock 140 which is an easy 4 pin lock and is not a bad lock for a beginner to start on.
Check out my video description for my progressive lock list.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
i pick lock with grinder i like your way
@Bill you ever actually try that bill? it depends what type of lock it is but that can be rather hard on some
That is not a bad approach
Great lesson. I have tried to learn but without a clear picture of the structure of the padlock, I was never certain of what pins were or how they worked.

@@HelpfulLockPicker you're welcome. But even better...lock picking tools are cheap on eBay. Had to get me a set. You never know when the world ends. Doomsday prep. And what I mean is the next great depression

Nah man. It's *totally* gonna be zombies or North Korean bombs. Haven't you seen the news? This time Kim's last missile test made it off of the launchpad! Soon they'll be able to get it past the testing facility's fence!
As a person who will be working with design work I liked this for the simple reason that I will be the one who needs to know how something will work. I don't know that I will ever make a padlock, but it can't hurt to know how one works.
That's pretty cool! On the off-chance if you ever do make a padlock I would love to see it :-)
@@HelpfulLockPicker I'll let you know if I ever do. Don't sit on the edge of your chair though as I am most likely going to work for an AG business due to my geography.
Holy cow the lockpicking in Oblivion and ESO is more realistic out of all the entries. That very interesting to watch and see how a lock like that works too.

Interesting video! However, locks are not usually in a vice. Try doing this on a lock, that is able to move around. It's not as easy. I guess I'm not a very good lock picker. A lock only keeps the honest people honest!!!
Thank you for the kind words! I agree, locks in use are often much harder!
I'm thinking it was in a vise to help the viewers see. If it was in use would be hard to see through the guys hand to see a dam thing in the video dont you think?
@@alvino9611 agreed, for a visual aid, its great. I also thought the video was helpful. I bought the same practice lock, and picks.
For me, it took longer. Like I said earlier, I'm not a very good lock picker.
This is why it was in a vise, however, I typically prefer to pick locks in hand if you check out any of my other videos.
Locks in use are more difficult to open than locks at home.
I'm blaming you if I get caught.
I would not call that a good personal practice

LockPickingLawyer and this video is inspiring me to get some kind of lock picking kit and try to pick my home's locks, to see whether they're any good.
If you live in the US most likely they are not difficult, however, you really do not want to pick locks which are in use. You can break them.
@@HelpfulLockPicker I'm from the Netherlands. I didn't think of the possibility of breaking my locks. Thanks for the heads-up.
Can pick locks. Can't put a new battery in his smoke detector.
Lol, changing out the batteries is not the problem, thanks for noticing though! Maybe it is my little easter egg.
Ha! Thought I was the only one that noticed that. I thought it was my smoke detector at first
