Jeff, those window switches are one of the best things i've ever seen you make! Ingenious!
Fun fact, diodes can pass voltage in both directions, some do it by design. When you exceed the BV (Breakdown Voltage) in the 'wrong' direction, energy will flow in that direction. Diodes with a BV of 14.5v are used in voltage regulators to regulate the output voltage of the alternator to 14.5 volts.
Great video Jeff. My only thought was to maybe cover the front door speakers in a tan coloured (or something similar to the leather colour) speaker mesh fabric or paint the speaker mesh covers to match the door trim. The modern speakers look a little out of place in the stunning vintage interior. (My opinion only - your car not mine!)
Yes 💯
Agreed. The speaker covers are not keeping to the vintage theme. VHT make an upholstery paint that would easily remedy this.
Paint it chrome and you're done
@@Beri1984 not a bad shout tbh!
Nice water analogy for the electrics. When I did my "Electronic Systems" A level at school (many decades ago) the teacher started the course by using a similar analogy. Love the series. Keep up the great work :)
Brilliant job, love that you used the original window cranks rather than modern window switches, 😎👍
Not everything works out for the best all the time even though you put in the maximum effort, so its that much bettter when it does. Excellent work on these window switches. Its a pleasure to see how well you integrated them as if original. The switch for the passenger side is so logical as well. If its worth doing it once, its worth doing three times.
Great tutorial on the windows switches Jeff. Thanks mate.
Seeing you happy makes me happy!
Jeff, this car is an insane hot rod and the fact you’ve done absolutely everything in your shed is just brilliant. Get someone to do your dash lights? Pfffft, I’m just gonna put it out there that no chance you’d do all the miracle work to get someone to put globes in a cluster…
Wow brilliant and very neat solution- the patience you have is going to become legendary
More wizardry, Jeff! Great switches, beautifully made.
the tap and the drain, i am going to try to remember that, good one Jeff, thanks
Great self made solution to the window switch issue!!
No doubt about it Jeff, you're a fair "doer". Great result for the power windows, once again persistence wins for a great "Home Built" result.
Awesome as always, Jeff! But hear me out: One touch driver’s side up and down.
3M Strip Caulk works fine for those plastic water sealing sheets.
I was going to recommend 3M strip caulk as well, I've used it for this exact purpose. I assume it's available in Australia at auto parts stores or you can order it online. It stays sticky but isn't a gooey mess, and is handy to have around for sealing around trim studs and other things. It never hardens, I have a box of it that's 15 or 20 years old and it's still good. Look for part number 05878.
Excellent job Jeff 👍 amazing how we just take things for granted in a car w/o even thinking about how they work. A real HomeBuilt episode again, well done
Yay! Finally got a whiteboard to help explain things! Haha
To me your Alfararri is superior to any of the rich toffs who can write a check for a factory track car. As well, being a building myself, though I know very little about car electrics. Great to learn from your videos. Great work. Awesome car.
Back in the early 80's i fitted a fibre optic system to my capri. No electrics involved, thin Cable pointing to each bulb then run up to the instrument cluster.
Nicely done, you can now add engineer to your resumé. Hair cut is looking good.
Commony called a reverse polarity switch for the up / down to change the motors direction. Used in electric hoists, recliner chairs, drills, etc.
No start or drive today either..Keep going Jeff 🙃✌
Really enjoyed the white boarding on wiring the switches. Would be interested to hear more about how you go about using CAD too.
Nice video Jeff!!! The problem with your turn signals is solved if you connect the positive wire from the left and right side to the indicator light (without ground wire).
it was very vicariously satisfying to watch you solve that problem Jeff 🙂 please weigh her after shes complete im really curious to hear how much the final weight is (wet weight) and what the balance ended up at...also looking forward to seeing her tearing up a race track...!
Keep the 105 content coming, I could watch this series forever! I wish I could see this car in person ✌️ 🍻
Nice work Jeff. I enjoy your presentations and efforts to keep on the track of a coherent design.
Il piccolo finestrino che funziona benissimo si chiama "deflettore" ai tempi per arieggiare l'abitacolo o fumare sigarette senza impestare gli occupanti era eccezionale 🤙
It was great when the majority of people did smoke. Now when you open your window in the rain, in most new cars the water just come right in. Now there are hardly any rain gutters left, not much can hold the water back now.
These cars didn't have AC, so they were great in the summer to get air in. VW Beetles had similar.
Looks great Jeff - such a clever window solution
I LOVE the electric window switch solution Jeff. Brilliant and Simple 🫵🏻👍🏻
incredibly beautifully made, what a craftsmanship 🙂👍🏻
Now that was a cool video, I love your ingenuity Jeff!
She's nearly there pal. Looking forward to you starting the pickup
That was an outstanding job you did with the electric windows. I especially like that you were able to maintain the period correct window winding arms, while incorporating a modern and useful electric mechanism. Superb job. Many blessings to you and Mrs. Jeff.
The ground goes after the light bulb, you send 12v through the flasher unit and from there the pulsating 12v through the indicator switch where you select which side you want it to go to and then it grounds after the bulb. That is how it should be stock at least..
(like you drew the other schematics of the light bulb 15:15)
(they dont always have hazard function stock though.)
New music!!!!! Thank you Jeff!!! Such a relief. Keep changing it up. Keep the sponsors rolling. Love it all for years now. Cheers
Brilliant solution Jeff. Well done. ❤
Nice sound coming out of the window motors !
That turned out perfect Jeff! 👏👌 Great stuff!
Thanks mate :D
Sweeeeeet !!! Still don’t understand why you bothered with a radio…that engine sounds soooo good !!! Cheers !!!!!
I hope the window handles are strong and also the mounting.
Most people, when seeing a window handle like that are going to assume its for a manual window and therefore put the matching force into the handle...
Brilliant solution and very nice work, as usual. Great videos always!
Nice work Jeff! My only constructive comment is that the black/brown insert on the door cards just look off - not straight. I think doing a diagonal version where they match the slant of the cutout would look much cleaner
You made it understandable. Thx.
Some other channels edit a filter for when you weld or use plasma cutter. It's kinda bright on eyes. Great work, as always.
Another great video Jeff. I've been thinking of doing this too in my project car. A 69 DATSUN 510. You know, the one I always say you should build next! Thanks for the video. This will help
Now you need a switch to kill it's utmost up, and utmost down. Basically so you can just push the switch, and not worry about holding it too long
Guage calibrators are available off the shelf to make mismatched gauges and senders work together for things like fuel level and temperature. They're not especially expensive.
I just looked them up and have ordered one. Thanks :D
Pretty smooth, Jeff.
Great work with the window electricals. For a possible future improvement, consider an Arduino that has all switches connected, then all logic of what switch does what is a small matter of programming.
Next time I see you do I get a ride in the car? That interior is PLUSH
Great great mod !!
You could have used butyl tape to seal the plastic sheet onto the door frame
Tremendous Jeff. Well done.
Thays a great explanation of electeicity and it how I describe it to anyone who is intimidated by wiring. Water or hydraulic. Its just a series or circuits. Get your 2 hoses twisted and connect them to the wrong taps and it wont work! Juat coonect one wire to where you want it. Then the next. And so.
I would go with a notch/dimple plus center springs.. 😊.. Well done. Greetings from South Africa!!
Don’t need any diodes , just supply both sides of the warning light. When you put the left indicator on the warning light grounds out through the right indicator and the same happens with the other one , that’s how the factory did it
I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense.
That's really clever. Top job.
Very nice solution Jeff!!
Watch out for water issues with the relays inside the door. If you can move the relays into the cabin, that will be a much better place for the relays, and less wiring into the door.
Those little quarter windows are fab. I used to turn them in the opposite direction and they gave so much fresh air into the cabin on a hot day. #1750GTV
Also on new vapour barriers I simply use 3M double sided tape. Yes it goes off over time, but I then simply add more in years time --------- and it's so much tidier than that horrible OEM sticky mastic..... yuck
Great circuits. For swapping doors I have used a toggle from wing mirror adjustment - but year the hardest part is always to find switchgear that 'looks right' in the period correct space.
Love ya work Jeff @@
If your look for nice future project window switches , bmw 6 and 7 series type 1 from the ‘70 have a nice look. But I like the way you did this!
The window regulator rails needs a little bit more lubing but otherwise very nice job. Well done ! About the vapor barrier i would use double sided tape ;)
Hi Jeff, really enjoyed watching hing make those electric window switches, bloody clever of you, amazing. Just a thought on yr center console, some nice oak or walnut veneer would keep it " period" looking, maybe . Thanks for another brilliant video. Cheers from NZ
Nice. That works great.
Jeff thanks diodes I am having the same issue with my 32 ford roadster I will get some thanks again
Great Job even though the taps and drains was creating havoc with the brains. 😊
Excellent stuff once again Jeff 😎👌🏻👍🏻
Clever work on the switches. Make sure the dash bulb has its own earth. Many setups like this don't and rely on the non activated indicator bulb to supply the earth. Clever arrangement but a pain for you. If it is not earthed directly then do so with one lead from the bulb. the other goes to the left and right circuits with diodes inserted as you described. make sure you get the diode direction correct. Anyway I'm sure you'll do whatever you want and then fix the mistakes later. It's how you roll.
Hello Jeff , great job with the window winders . The wiring can be complex when you first look at it . If you have difficulties with the switches then you can use window switches from an old car as they will have the double pole , 3 position layout that you need for bidirectional motor control . It's much simpler if you are using a PDM to control the windows like modern cars and you can set it up to close the windows automatically with the central locking and also auto reverse if the window becomes jammed due to someone's finger in the way.
Very nice job. You definitely have improved from the original CAD. 😂
great idea with a superb result 😎
Great video Jeff your car is awesome 👌 good luck with all the rest of it BTW your power window switches are rad looking forward to seeing what is next
Love those switches - neat job!
Great to see this coming near completion!! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the truck!! 😃
Great work !!! Creative set up !!!
Great fabrication on those switches. Reminds me of older steering column turn signal switch stalks.
Brilliantly neat solution, really nice work
Wow, you are such a clever man, jeff .. i love watching you solve problems. i am amazed how you find a solution to all the issues ...fantastic viewing
Absolutely genius to use original window winders as switches. I have never seen that before, and it adds convenience to authenticity.
Awesome Jeff I love the episodes like this where you think outside the square to get it done
Such good timing. I was sketching out my own ideas for using the old winder handle. You can actually buy switches in usa but they are about USD 250 each.
Exactly. Expensive for a switch you still need to fabricate mounts for ;)
@@HomeBuiltByJeff I have some OE window switches i will re-use, operated via a cam wheel directly connected towinder handle - with some springs and stops. Quick question - what did rubber conduit are you using for the wires to pass through from door to a-pillar shut?
Hey mate instead of the mastick you used for the vapour barrier you would probably be better off with butyl tape. Car builders sell it and it makes life so much better. A lot less mess and crap when you have to pull the barrier off and on as much as you do.
good idea!!
Great work Jeff, all the fiddly bits. And you're getting your head around the electrical stuff, which can be quite rewarding
That’s really cool mate great job 👍👍
Nice analogy with the water and electricity Jeff.
Thanks for another one 🙂
👍💪✌
You think by now Mrs Jeff would know cars inside out!
Brilliant. Love it
Your comparison of water and DC electricity is correct. As are the diodes.your window switches are awesome! Love the CNC plasma table.
Wow! That works great.
When you started working on the mounts, all I could think is how the plasma table is tailor made for this kind of project. Then you mentioned the stand off (bushing?) And I thought about the lathe.
It is amazing how great those tools are. Fantastic work Jeff
Hi, your diagram might be faulty as per the warning light for the indicator, you have the feeds from the indicators going to the warning light with a ground on the other side. I've never seen it this way, rather there is no seperate ground but instead you get power from the indicator circuit in use with the current going through the other indicator side and through the filament to the ground, the real reason with filament bulbs that both sides dont flash is that the warning bulb is a mich less wattage than the indicator bulbs themselves.
Jeff- wire the indicator bulb between the flasher and switch. Then like the flasher it will cycle regardless of left or right
No diode needed- quit overthinking it.
Don't run it In series though. Then your blinkers stop working if the dash bulb goes out. Just t it off right out of the flasher.
Cool idea the window switched Jeff and well made.🤠
6:32 flow and return 😉. I had the same issue adding indicators to a scooter I was building. Make sure they're overspeced for what you need and not matched. I burned the first set out fairly rapid
Hi Jeff, I am calling from Switzerland and I was wiring a lot of those cars in the past. You can just wire one part of the control light with the right indicator and the other part with the left indicator. The resistance of the indicator bulbs (front and back) is so high that they are not going to light up but you will still have a ground connection through the bulbs. This gives you a closen circuits and the control lamp will light up. Easy as that!
Yes that's probably how it was originally. Interior bulbs are such low power compared to the actual indicators that when placed in series, only the interior bulb comes on.
Would be fine as long as the indicator bulbs are not LEDs as those take almost nothing to light them
You’re amazing Jeff. I would never have gotten my head around those 4 relays lol
Incredible job, wonderful ...from Italy...ciao 😊
well done mate!!👍👍
