The L7000 has a Lucas-Girling brake system on it. The valve you calling a line lock is actually the exact same as the tractor brake valve in your Western Star, the only difference is it handles hydraulic pressure instead of air. The brakes are released by pressure from the power steering pump. The brakes can be caged similar to an air brake chamber. In the center of the chamber there is a threaded rod with a castlated nut on it, held in place with a roll pin. Back that nut out, turning the threaded rod. Back it out until it stops solid. It will back out easy then stop keep turning, you just started compressing the parking brake spring. I learned about this system when I lived in England and when I started working in a truck repair shop in the US. People found out I knew that system, I spent everyday for 4 years working on it because nobody else knew or wanted to know about it. To the uninitiated it is a very confusing system.
It does look odd but not all that complicated. Is the parking function purely mechanical outside of the hyd. pressure to release? It looks like it uses a second wheel cylinder for the parking function but that could be done with a wedge.
Phuuk…
Nice.
Knowledge pile on. H.A.B.S. or Hydraulic Assisted Brakes. Sometimes they have a seperate pump, sometimes it is part of the power steering. If the little sensor goes bad at the bottom of the "master cylinder" under the reservoir it doesn't work because it doesn't know it's pressure, accumulators aka the things that resemble garlic bulbs often go bad meaning you are basically mechanical brakes. So they will feel fine at first then you have no hydraulic assist. The line lock or oil pass through valve should be moved to allow fluid in. They often have bad seals due to age and may also have worn grooves. These trucks almost always have a driveline or some other mechanical brake in the states. As with all hydraulic brakes you can get caliper lock up. When using these trucks you want to rev it pretty good to jump the line pressure before attempting to release the hydraulic brakes. IMHO it is a junk system. If you know it, it is not bad to diag but, air is by far superior. They existed before air over hydraulic to allow for non CDL non airbrake drivers. You can find them from time to time in new stuff but, as I said it is not as good as air brakes.
Long ago I bought a gas L700 tractor to stretch for farm use. It had Bendix air over hydraulic brakes, absolute nightmare. I ended up swapping out the axles for full air ones. Problem solved. No clue why air over hydraulic was any kind of advantage.
7:45 When you have a Zacklift, everything is a liftable load.
I NEVER SAID I WAS GOOD AT THIS!
but i love it when a sketchy plan comes together
I would rather be lucky than good...and I try not to confuse the two.
Lucas Girling brakes. They were used on medium duty Fords for decades. There's a 3/4" nut pinned onto a 1/2" threaded shaft on each rear brake chamber. Just run that shaft out with a 3/4 wrench or socket to release the brakes. Very similar to caging air brakes. Now that you've discovered this brake system, you'll run into it all the time on Medium duty Ford trucks. Very common. Good job! 🙂
Cascade Heavy Rescue. We may not get it right, but we get it done.. lol
We do it right because we do it twice

Thank you Casey. Out of all your toys that western star semi is a gold bar.❤😅.
I just love your humor....'the truck fell off'....Still chuckling over that one. Thanks for the morning laughs, Casey.
Casey, you needed that tracked shovel when you built your daughter her pool oasis
proly too small, lite,,thats why there for sale..
@@harrywalker968 I ran one we had for a tree service and you could pick up around 800 pounds easy with it and it it was small enough to fit threw most gates, I can't speak for this brand but we ran a Vermeer and it was an impressive little machine, id grab piles of brush the size of small pick-ups and take it to the chipper all at once... In the right application these machines are well worth it
Remember, not all cars at the auction are junk. But, all junk cars are at the auction.
Hope I didn’t scare you when I honked at you on that corner!
I was coming back from Copart in Eugene, and I was delighted to see you sitting there lol
Oregon sure is a pretty state, with all its diverse geography and terrain.
The cool features of your Zacklift seem to never end.
I see big dad has had some influence on you. G.F.Y.M hat looks good on you🤣
I hope that G.F.Y.M doesn't stand for what I initially thought 😄
It does
@@CaseyLaDelle At least it's a straight message 👍
@@frank-t6857it definitely does
You were absolutely right. Someone would educate you on the brakes. I'm actually surprised you haven't encountered them before.
Just a heads up, where I used to work they rented box trucks to move machine shop stuff. They drove a forklift into several of them and had to buy them a new truck. The bed of the truck failed. Good video.
That brush guard looks great on your truck.
Need a 42 inch TV in the sleeper for your backup cam. Just look over your shoulder! Hahahaha!
Got in . Job done . Getting out will be faster.
G. F. Y. M. Love the hat Casey
Whoever bought that truck has some work cut out for him getting things fixed. Neat way to load that machine!
They buy them for the box nothing more
@@MrButterz48 A permit free somewhat mobile storage shed then..
I'm a believer in the law of conservation of effort. Don't do anything using any more steps than necessary.
If you're going to remove the loading straps, do so at the back of the truck so you don't have to carry them to the back.
If you're going to unload, you might as well leave them on to save the effort of installing and removing the straps a second time.
Most auction places will gladly use their fork lift, pay loader w/arms to lift items onto or into your trailer *truck* it’s included in auction. But some are not super careful. Being known, a $5 bill at times helps. Heavy, & wide payloader w/flat forks +8” wide. Set width. Drive on, they put in truck, drive off. Boring of course. Any thought Ethan getting his CDL?
No tie down points no problem, it has a door!
That bumper looks good
I am sure glad that there is some1 out there that has all the correct answers and knows absolutely everything and is never wrong.
Liked the new(?) height measuring tool! Don't recall seeing that before! Did it come with the ZL? Also like the new, reflective ZL decals! Mrs Grumpy
Mrs Grumpy? Hi.
So, is it Grumpy wants to get out the house, or is it that you want to get him out of the house?
Casey wasn't sure and the internet wants to know.
Either way, we need to see more of him and maybe even you can join Casey on a recovery or two.
I'm always happy when Grumpy joins Casey for some shenanigans! I'm not sure who can get the other in the most trouble! 🤔🤭😂Mrs G @@35manning
On this episode of “Watching Casey Work “ how many ways to get feedback on the channel and still get the results needed for a successful job. Nice anyway job. And that grill guard is awesome.
My Mrs said that small loader looked like Jhonny 5 from the side :D and as it was being hoisted i imagined the scene from ET on the pushbike
Casey I LOVE the Big Dad hat in the video. I will be sure to let my mom know 😂 You were so close to my neck of the woods!😊
How could you not see the comments to know what was wrong with the brakes, but you could see the comments on the last video to know to do a tour of the gauges??
Got it done ✔️ nobody got hurt ✔️ success 👍
By whatever means you got the job done... but that mini skid-steer thing looks more than ready to crush anyone reversing it!
Looks like an old Uhaul truck judging from the orange paint in the doors
Auction always help you load when asked. I saw the forklift in the background so I’m bewildered why you didn’t ask for help?
content.
Love the hat
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
Great video for Saturday morning having coffee thanks Casey
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing! 😂😂
Great content 👍 guys thanks 🙏 for sharing.
Love the hoodie, gotta support those who have ideas that are actually revolutionary to an industry.
That's awesome.. thanks for the video.
You've got the coolest toys!
Nice job Casey!
Well, that wasn't too bad!! nice job!!
That grill looks awesome!
Auction videos are always interesting! Great job getting the little skid steer on the truck.
HEY! Good morning Casey and thumbs UP!!
THANK YOU
We never have good luck at the auction. Everything the boss buys is trash, but it is job security for me so I don't mind too much. I had a funny event occur on the last one I sent there. It was a 94 international 4900 tandem dump that was no longer much use. The guy came to pick it up and we told him were to take it. I drive by that auction lot on my way home and noticed it hadn't made it there a few days later. I called the tow company to see what happened and they told me they dropped it off the same day. A few confusing calls later, it because clear he did drop it off, but at the wrong auction lot. That auction lot somehow managed to sell it with no paperwork at all other than a signed ownership. We got a decent buck for it and a refund on the tow (after some complaining). I would have went after the auction house for more but the boss was happy with the number and didn't feel like raising a stink over it.
Another fine trip with the Zacklift.
Stay safe and we'll see you next time.
What a beautiful beast with that bumper on!
Thank u for the wonder views. So beautiful out there
New T-shirt thought, "Casey Ladelle does it upside down". Good videos. Thanks for sharing.
Great video thank you!
Always fun and informative to watch, thanks for the subs and the fish. When in doubt the answer is always 42.🤠
Definitely
And avoid pangalactic gargle blasters before driving
Don't forget your towel.
I agree with Ethan. That skidsteer is cool.
Casey, Is there any wheeled or tracked vehicle you cannot drive and / or operate? It’s amazing to see you get into (or climb on) every vehicle and quickly figure out how they operate, and how they are broken!
I enjoyed the video. It just really hit me just how much you had to invest to get into the heavy wrecker business, beyond what you spent for the Zacklift. All the other bits such as the parts for the under reach, and chains, and lights, and so much more. Along with the cost of fuel and wear and tear and insurance. Then I think about those who reject what you are asking to do a tow as too expensive. Clearly, they just don't understand what it costs you to do the job, or, they are just too cheap and don't care if you lose money or not. Glad you stand your ground and refuse to give in to their desire to get something as cheaply as possible.
1:20 That's just cuter than a little speckled pup!
Another Fine job. well done Casey Style
Nice hat Cassey! 😆😂
That auction yard in Woodburn is staffed by very knowledgeable assholes. I've delivered many loads there.
Great video...see you on the next one
Your lowboy trailer is now pouting because you left it at home.
We loved it --- We think we should see more SKETCHY Stuff :) LOL -- Keep up the great work!!!
The right way was the loading ramp. Because that option was not available the only wrong way would have been to drop it.....
Cattleguard looks cool 😎
Casey I love your camera he’s hilarious keep them in your biz
# camera man ?
really enjoy your videos.
There's a reason that skid steer is at auction. You can't buy parts for them, no service support in the States, and they're built over seas. 😊
That makes sense. Otherwise, it looks to be a handy tool for small jobs. It definitely sucks if you end up with orphan equipment.
Grilling brakes, the best!
Hey Casey, I like all the small details you add in commentary. Little stuff goes along ways in making hauling decisions.
I ran a recovery unit in Germany supporting the 1/11th armored Cav.
5tons, a. M88 and a crane for loading transports were in our yard.
You have great toys and I like watching you and the crew get after it.
And thanks for helping keep the forests clean.
Casey - I wanted to say that I appreciate you providing locations of your activities - I like to follow you via google maps where your travels take you. My family used to vacation all through Oregon as I was growing up and it's great to see that beautiful country again. Thank you-
Good morning Casey this was the perfect example of how thinking outside the box to get things done pays off well.
Using the wrecker to load the skid steer was smart and saved a lot of time.
On the plus if Ethan buys stuff from the auction working for you is an added bonus for him and saves him money since you can haul it for him
Great Day at the auction.
thanks Casey... video will be coming soon
"It fell off and we'll try harder next time". 😂
I've seen some trucks that the brakes won't release if the lift gate isn't stowed away all the way.
So it seems like picking it up from the back end was also helpful with having that mini in the back since the angle of the truck will keep the mini up in the front of the box truck..
That almost looks like you know what you're doing
Don't be fooled. People think I know what I'm doing all the time and in truth, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants and hoping I don't fuck up beyond repair
Me too! "I kinda want the little dingo thing!"
Auction content brings in the viewers. MANY posters use it with very good success.
❤ the content as always 😊
Go. Topsy.🎉. Great content
RUclips’s out to get you. They unsubscribed us from you! Shocking!! Luckily we are invested and can’t go a week without watching your wild antics.
23:52 Totally understand why you would want the riser function, Casey. I had heard from my Dad years ago about that funky "line lock" function for the brakes on old Ford trucks, but never got a visual depiction of it until now. Kind of a weird setup. But I guess it did the job back then.
I have a Ford L6000 single axle dump truck, essentially the same cab and it also had the complementary rain system in the cab roof/liner. I have since fixed the issue because I don’t enjoy driving all day with pee pants from the roof. It’s honestly a great little truck. It has air brakes a bit cam 300 Cummins with a 10 speed Allison. It’s a handy little truck
Hallo Casey!!!
Oh a wee toy for Grumpy 😄
lol the water in the cab liner
The next time you are trying to load something like this, here's a thought. Once you have the loader in the air with the ZackLift, then raise the lift gate on the truck so you can drive the loader into the truck while letting off on the cables.
The lift gate that doesn’t work??
@@CaseyLaDelle Sorry, I didn't hear that on the video. I just heard the two of you discussing whether or not it was strong enough to support the tracked vehicle. So I assumed from that it was working but you did not trust it.
By front towing that truck you have four spares to get you home... Cheers 🍻
It's better to tow them forward due to aerodynamics however it's more work because of driveshaft removal.
@Bryan-Hensley i get all that lol, in this case the odd rear brake wigged him out
@@notsevenfeettall meh they ran the truck before moving it, there's oil in the turbo at least.
My first rifle was a 243. That papa gave daddy and daddy gave to me.
Very familiar with that stretch of hwy I run from Salem to Redmond every Monday. I was watching your shorts when Santiam pass had all the bad weather to give myself an idea of the road conditions it was very helpful for me. I seen you way up in kalama the other day is there a video coming up or was it just a straight up boring tow lol
There will be a video
Love the ingenuity Casey, this feels like every day of my life except when you removed the boom cables I would’ve accidentally thrown the dingo in reverse and let it hit the ground like a sack of hammers
Casey has a Topsy hoodie, so cool.
Good Ole bar none auction
Even with a backwards shackle, it all works.
Crazy weather there! Another enjoyable video for my morning routine. Great lifting techniques but not sure if OSHA would approve.
I'm interested in that lil red skid steer. Was the other one sold?
