I'm 63 and glad to be alive today because now i can listen to this song over an over on my phone instead of picking up the needle and replacing it on the record player back in the day, such a unique sound that can never be replaced with what's out there now...
I worked as a Field Engineer for General Electric in some pretty harsh environments all over the world. Often, I was the only one who spoke English. It was lonely, the food was terrible, flying insects bigger than large mice attacked at night, and the snakes could kill you just by staring at you. I played this song on my Walkman cassette player until the batteries ran out. 40+ years later, Home is the best place to ever be.
@@danly60871 Well, I am very glad you are still around. Back in 1971, our neighbor's son was a short timer in infantry and took one in the forehead. It still bothers me to drive by his house. Really great, honesty, but how many fans know that this is a sea chanty dating back to at least 1903 in the Bahamas? The Beach Boys turned it into great instrumental.
I've been a Beach Boys fan for over 40 years and had never heard this extended version of Sloop John B until now. It is without a doubt one of the best instrumentals I've ever heard. I've listened to it over and over and it just gets better. The harmony's, the beauty of the instruments and the way it flows is simply a masterpiece. Great work Brian Wilson and crew.
I've been a Beach Boys fan for 62 years since I was 12. I was so lucky to grow up with them. I lived near the ocean beaches in Southern California too. I've always loved "Sloop John B, so under rated song. This extended version is great !
🎉As our species enters its extinction phase, I pray that somewhere this song, and this incredible version of this song, is hurdling through space to another galaxy.
I heard this song first from Gary Lewis and the Playboys in the 60. When I found that The Beach Boys were the original artists, I never stopped listening to them until now. I just love this song. I'm 70♥️💙💚
Yep, it’s a Bahamian folk song first published in 1916. It was recorded by The Weavers in 1950 and The Kingston Trio in 1958 before The Beach Boys did their cover in 1966.
I will always think of my daddy whenever I hear this song. He was a Greek immigrant who came to this country when he was 8 years old. We were in our car when this song came on the radio. He asked me, "why did he take someone else's corn"!!! xoxoxoxoxo
I just turned 76 and THE BOYS always take me back to those great high school days! And they're still touring, yes two different groups now. I try to see each group live every year.
Good on you mate .recognise all the talent .lots don't like Mike love but hey he for many was that unique beachboys sound .keep listening appreciating and rocking .kind regards .
Very well said........it's great we can do this now w/ digital, etc......great fun to play w/ the harmonies. Didn't the Kingston Trio do this song first ? And i also think that K.T. did A Very Good Year first......very prescient of them, because having other groups want to cover their songs is, in itself, a huge complement.
Love how Brian and Al Jardine put this together it is awesome, you are the greatest band on earth. You guys and Bruce Springsteen on a scale of one to ten, a big whopping 10.

The Wilson brothers sure knew how to do a son, love the entire setup that was awesome one of my all time favs. Rip Carl and Denis miss you guys singing beside your brother. Fantastic incredibly the best.
The absolute best music by the Beach Boys is always enjoyable. The concert I have went to in the last 2 years was absolutely fantastic. John Stamos plays wonderful with them. Been a fan since the late 1960. Great to see them play together.❤❤🎉😊
I started getting interested in popular music around 1968 when I was 10. I started playing the clarinet a year earlier. But then I started listening to AM radio. I don't remember the boys oy summer being on much, then. But a couple of years later, when I went from records to cassettes, I got a greatest hits cassette of the Beach Boys. They've been in my music library ever since. Since I was still in school at that time, one of my favorites was In My School.
Thanks for applying your mixing talent as just gets more and more enjoyable each time I listen, especially enjoy the latter two minutes or so of the instrumental part.
What makes this song musically is the rented 12 string guitar that Billy Strange a session musicians played at the request of Brian Wilson and still my favorite of the BB
The twelve string is a beautiful part of this song but to be fair it’s just one part of the genius choice of instruments and session musicians that Brian Wilson put together. Absolutely genius!
I disagree, why do people try and outdo what is perfection in the first place, I don’t understand. Besides I love Brian’s scratch vocals, him doing all the singing with the Wrecking Crew with original words.
One of the greatest tune , with Good Vibrations, Do it again, of this greatest group among others. As I mentioned in other previous comments the remix extended versions of the Boys are often the best, and much enjoyable due to the research of the highest quality of sounds, harmony, melody and thus composition. Beach Boys = standard of the highest quality in music many decades after, and to come. Thanks so much to you great Boys of the Beach.
This song was part of my first musical memories..my family played guitars and sang songs - they loved the stuff with harmonies... from that I learned to play myself and studied music theory and snubbed the BB for some crazy reason..kinduva sad irony

The song was actually adapted from a folk song Hoist John B Sail the Beach Boys gave it their own style and released it as The Sloop John B.....

For some reason this great Beach Boys hit never got the recognition it deserved.

Fantastic modifications! Makes a great song even greater. Listening to the BB's since 1962.
Anyone wanna argue against the ability these boys had to harmonize?

Brian Wilson was a composer. Pet Sounds is a masterpiece.
The original track was way too short. This is great 👍
