    Ugh, Thank You! 🥳
    I was super bummed when mine snapped today
    It's starting to feel like all the little things are starting to break/melt recently
    There's another plastic piece that's snapped in the track for the sunroof glass too.
    I've been having a hell of a time trying to find that part #
    +
    - The ENTIRE time -
    I've had this car the hatch's plastic spoiler has been warped/bubbled, & makes it almost impossible to open my trunk.
    If its cool enough, I can press *with all my might* on the bubble to open it
    (if I can stand on my tippy toes long enough😂).
    Then, it'll make Thee loudest "pop", which ALWAYS terrifies the shit outta anyone in earshot
    I got it new from the dealership, & they've already replaced it 2x, but the bubble always came back.
    I gave up after that cuz they'd just replace it, never actually fixing what causes the bubble
    .... I did get the GT in Black.. hehe
    & live in a town where summers'll get up to 117° 😅
    & ½ the season's 100°-110°s
    (Yeah, it's Hell - Global warming frickin sucks)
    Hehe, but daammn, it really does look slick in black 😎
    Hmmmm, I wonder why all the shit's breaking on my roof 🤣🙄😭
    So, if anyone's got some helpful vids to replace the plastic runners on the sunroof tracks/ - or - how to fix the spoiler from warping, I'd really appreciate it 😁
    (Apparently, the dealership hasn't seen any other GTs come in with the bubble & they've got no idea how to keep it flat)
    I'll be doing the repairs myself, since I'm a bit handy & broke (I've helped build a few houses, laid more wood floors than I'd have liked, & used to work on my Honda CRX)
    Plus, I've already had to pop some trim & replace a few side mirrors on my GT that got eaten by the garage door 😅
    Tho, I'm not stoked on having to pull down the whole liner & dealing with all those clips. So it'd really help if the vids laid things out clearly
    · I really can't do ramblers - my brain just shuts down & can't pull anything useful outta the ramble ·
    This vid was awesome. It was clear, has good lighting, & *no rambling*.
    A few parts did leave me talking to my screen 😅
    Def woulda helped if he'd used a phone/camera mount, so he could explain *with both hands* lol
    Seriously tho, Thanks for putting this vid out - It's a such a massive help!

    A big thank you from Sydney Australia. Removing all the trim is a pain and I’m not sure how long I would have taken trying to slide out those f$#kin clips if it wasn’t for your video. My cousin popped in while I was in the middle of pulling it apart. I just sent him a text apologising for exposing my ugly side.😆. Glad it’s done. I also found a lot of loose bolts around the sun roof. I had to move the channels slightly apart as the shade wedged a bit when fully open. All done. 👌 Thanks again.

    Thanks for this video. My dealership wanted $850 to fit the $8 part. My 2016 i30 had the pop-rivets in from the top so they were a pain to drill out as had the ball end underneath. Had to grind it flat with a Dremel tool before I could centre up a drill and then finally chisel the end off. Put it back together and all works fine. Thanks again.

      My pop rivets were installed the same way. The ball ends are very soft aluminum, not steel. You can just lob the entire end off with some diagonal wire cutters.
      No need to grind. They're hollow too, so drill out easily.

  • @eladbari

    *One more important thing!* - Seems like your glass sunroof was sealed shut the whole time you worked on replacing the clip?
    That's strange, because on my Elantra GT - it's also sealed, yet, both black clips are non-movable [they seat more to the front of the car- in their 'sealed shut' position and I can't move them. I was sure you have to open the sunroof first - to have both clips go to the back end part of the car, so then, they are loose and you can replace them. Any thoughts? Is this whole operation possible when the glass sunroof is closed? (I actually can't see the front part of the sunroof cloth @0:20 ... strange.. )

      I looked at the front shade, when I did mine. Looks like they rolled the metal bar at the end of the fabric backwards twice so that it's totally covered in fabric.
      Then take the bar and install one end into the clip on the track. Then take the other end, at a slight angle, and rock it into the clip on its side. Hold on until the clips are even on both sides of the track. Spring tension from the shade should now hold it in place.

    Hi! The rear sunshade retracted back, I noticed the black clip part was broken on one side and another funky detail- I noticed some thin smoke on the rear end of the sunroof (worried it's the motor but I can't know).
    I'm in Europe so my car model is Hyundai i30 2016 - and I wonder if it's the same thing as Elantra. Any thoughts?

    • @doableauto
      @doableauto  3 года назад

      It's possible the sun shade motor is burned up . But if the front shade still moves the motor is probably still good

    • @eladbari
      @eladbari 3 года назад

      @@doableauto Yes! it sounds so weird that because of the whiplash of the back sunshade- it might've damaged the motor?
      I thought about another scenario where it might've been something rubbing onto the retracted cloth, releasing dust that looked like smoke, yet, I'm not sure that's the case.
      Current problems are:
      1. I can't know if that motor is fried, because if I try to open the sunroof again, and it's faulty- this means I am stuck with an opened sunroof, without this part to replace (p.s- from your video it seems like there are 2 motors, so can't know which one might be bad).
      2. I'd love to try replacing the plastic part myself, yet, I have no clue how to take that plastic roof part to expose it. Seems elaborate from your video, and no real information online so far...
      I really don't wanna pay 300$ for someone to do it for me, god damn! :) And I appreciate your help!

    Hello, I could drill out the rivet, but now I could not push back the black piece far enough to bring the broken part out, I applied my all strength. Can it be pushed far enough to put the new one in?I wonder how did you do that? Any suggestion, please?

    • @doableauto
      @doableauto  3 года назад

      You will have to pop the motor off in the very back and they it will give you enough room to pry it back its a little stiff to get it to move . But the motor has to come off 1st.

  • @eladbari

    @1:24 + @1:59 - I don't get why you replayed the same part and mirrored it.
    Is that a mistake? Or you wanted to hint that you gotta take off both motors? (The problematic plastic clip is supposed to be the one on the right)

    • @eladbari
      @eladbari 3 года назад

      Also, it actually seems that to loosen the rails to get the broken clip on the right- you actually have to loosen the left motor [from the driver's perspective]. And then, reinstall a small new zip-line that you took off previously.

      @@doableauto Here's the questin: Seems like your glass sunroof was sealed shut the whole time you worked on replacing the clip?
      That's strange, because on my Elantra GT -when glass is sealed - both black clips are non-movable [they're locked to the center of the rooftop- where both cloth curtains meet- in their 'sealed shut' position) and I can't move them (as if a spring in that railing is locking them).

      Ours broke recently luckily the car was still used cars warranty and the dealer replaced it at no charge.
      To understand how it breaks you need to understand How it operates. The motor pushes The rail the rail pushes the plastic piece and plastic piece is attached to the shade. So when it’s fatigued as the shade is Under Constant Spring tension towards the rear of the car and wants to retract all the time the plastic piece that pulls it along with the rail eventually breaks on one side then the other side will give way won’t close anymore until you replace the piece as per the video.
      So good to find a fix video. Thumbs up for you man
