Everytime you mention Dune I think of my mother in her green matching top and bottom end of the nineties with her matching off white shoes and bag! 😆 Scents are the best way to bring back memories! 🥰 It’s hard for me to say if it’s a masterpiece or not because I change my mind so often about a perfume. One day I love it and one day I can hate it.. 🤷🏻♀️ But I would say that By the fire place could qualify. I always hated smelling smoke and I love this one so I don’t know how they did it! I never stopped to think of Dior Addict as a masterpiece but yes! I have the long lost original. It’s about 14 years old and just as beautiful as ever. One spray lasts literal DAYS! Portrait of A Lady is my number one!

So many standouts here, Veronica. Dior Addict! That is the signature scent of my late, little sister. I call that one heavenly now. My wife keeps a small bottle on hand and I'll smell it on occasion. Always makes me feel like my sister is watching over me. That one will always be associated with her, and it will always have special meaning to me.

Veronica, I love this. I don’t know what constitutes a masterpiece either but even with my allergies I still follow my nose and can smell one. I love so many of these and, yes, they are masterpieces. I don’t know what a rich lady or an old lady smells like either. It’s all relative and should be based on the joy one takes from their fragrances. First, your description of Saffron Lazuli is everything I was unable to articulate. It’s a stunner! I have to give credit to Dr. Rose because she sent me decants of the whole line and those fragrances are amazing. I now have six of them. Sandal Ruby included. Dior Addict is backup bottle worthy and I really need to pull the trigger and get Terracotta. I was just watching one of Richard’s videos last night. He’s such an amazing human being and I totally trust his recommendations. I’ll definitely be looking into some more of these. Thanks sunshine and have a great weekend.

I have Terracotta and love it! The dry down smells just like a suntan cream from the 80’s and 90’s called Bain de Soleil. It was an orange colored jelly cream and smelled heavenly! 🙂
Hi Veronica! Very classy list. Fracas is 1000% a masterpiece. The queen of white flowers. Germaine Cellier was an astounding woman. I will always have a bottle of Fracas. Even though I personally cannot wear it, Bandit is also a masterpiece perfume. Very ahead of its time.

"Chococognac" is my favorite so far. If you like chocolate, you gotta try! I think the notes are chocolate/white chocolate/ylang-ylang/incense/cognac!

My masterpiece fragrance was Dior Midnight Poison. I never understood why that one, out of all the flankers, got discontinued. More recent scents I have smelled are BDK Gris Charnel and Atelier Materi Cacao Porcelana - I find those both to be masterpieces and I can't wait to own them both 🖤

Charlotte Tillbury: just her name. I believe it is her first fragrance. It's wild and weird but nothing like it has ever been made. Also, Betsy Johnson's initial scent was Uber unique! My favorite master piece is Coco EDT. Lovely video! Thank you!
Wow, how interesting. I have L'Autre Oud in the original bottle but was disappointed with it not living up to the praise for me. I guess I'll have to see if I can learn to understand it better?! Some wonderful frags on your list, Veronica 👍 2002 Dior Addict is also a stunner. I personally find it hard to label frags as 'masterpieces' bc almost nothing is new or unique anymore, so very few really stand out to that degree. But even if not totally unique, some frags do deserve such recognition, and there's two that I class as masterpieces. They've lasted through the decades and are still relevant and are still so incredibly amazing, and they are the OG Dior Poison - one of the best tuberose fragrances (or just best fragrances) ever created imo, and Joop! Femme. What an outstanding fragrance - there's nothing else like it. I have a vintage bottle of Joop! and it's unreal - I adore it! Also agree on Fracas (TorD is close but not the same). As for artistic, 'non mainstream' fragrances, from my collection is Bis by Rodin Olio Russo. I love it (successful blind buy) but it's very much an acquired taste. Great quality and unique, and it smells amazing to me, so I guess I'd sweep that into the masterpiece category as well. 😍👍 PS just reading some of the comments below mine and I have to agree that OG Opium would also fit into the masterpiece category for it's bravado when it was created, such a wow fragrance of its time, and is still not only relevant, but in production today, albeit reformulated. Shame the original formula has been castrated but c'est la vie. Sign of the times.
Felt the same way about Terracotta. First time I sprayed it, I just didn't get it. Almost sold my bottle, but decided to give it a second try before I listed it. SO glad I did. I'm now obsessed and have a back up.
Hello Veronica, another great video...thank you. Dune is timeless, and just like Dior Poison the OG very intimidating and require courage to rock them.. To me it is oceanic, hot sand, floral, sensual...if the line where the sky meets sand and ocean has a scent it would be Dune. Although Dune has no lavender I still get the vibes of Mon Guerlain Intense.

I think that Angel and Alien are masterpieces. I have tons of niche fragrances, and I stand by these two. I love a lot of them and I don't wear Angel or Alien often, but when I do I feel special.
I love this list, especially the ones that I also own🤩😍👌. Sandal Ruby, Angels’ Share and Soleil Blanc (travel spray)😍😍. I would love to try Aura but I’m so scared, looks quite gothic to me😉🤔🧐. Agree, Dior Addict does smell like a rich woman. I have memories of being around rich women at different times and places and the fragrances they wore brings that association when I smell certain scents. One of them is Dior Addict and of course Chanel No 5.
Mine is an odd one. L'Origan by Coty. I've never found a dupe for it. I've loved it since I was about 11 years old. I always loved how it made me feel when I wore it.
What a terrific video Veronica! I haven't smelled most of those so can't comment to them but my selection would be Olympic Orchids SonnetXVII. I have loved this for years and always thought it was genius, not like anything I have smelled before or since - it's definitely not for everyone though. It has orchid but also a very prominent stables/barnyard/earthy scent that is nostalgic for me and very intoxicating. It's definitely odd and animalic but is also quite pretty.
I completely forgot about Calyx!!! I used to love that fragrance for hot summer days… something about it always reminded me of a Prickly Pear Margarita 🤗💕

Hi Veronica. On your recommendation I picked up Haramain Amber Oud at a great price Memorial Day sale. I wore it to my son's wedding last week. Very elegant. It gave me a Euphoria vibe, but more subtle. I would love to try Oak in Oak. Scents of Wood doesn't list it in its very pricy sample sets. I got a small bottle of Ebony in Oak and am truly loving that as an everyday woody fragrance. Also loving a sample of Xerjoff Lira. I'm planning on ordering a Kolotinis sample box with Coffee Addict. Very reasonable price and you can customize the box. My masterpiece is the original Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld. A classic. Thanks for some great ideas.

I have a growing list of fragrances but I have top 10 that I think are masterpieces: pure gold, gold flowers, LDBS, Rose D'Arabie/Rose Omeyyade (they smell somewhat the same 😄), coco vanille, star musk, bal d'afrique and Golden Gai. Yes, LDBS have many dupes but when I first smelled it 5 years ago I was shook 😄.

Amarige and Sandal Ruby are just amazing, true masterpieces I haven't had a whiff of the Saffron Lazuli it sounds so good, coffee addict I imagine I would love too, I hate coffee as a drink, too bitter for me but I love its smell, especially when it is roasting.

Such a hard topic and as you stated, it's hard to decipher from classifying as a "masterpiece" to I really love it. Also, does one consider just scent and originality or include performance, sillage, projection, longevity etc. Must it check all the boxes?!?!? I can honestly find masterpieces in each house. From the CH Confidential line, Platinum Leather is masterful indeed. It is how leather should be done and it is engulfed in the most wonderful white flowers. It is heaven and dare I say my favorite of the line *gasp*. Most I will mention will forever be in my collection because they are simply the best IMO in their genre and superb compositions: Dior Hypnotic Poison Kayali Utopia MFK BR540 (It was an original scent profile and although duped to exhaustion, it remains my one and only) Amouage Love Tuberose, Material Xeroff **** plenty to choose Italica, La Capitale Roja Creation E

I find BR540 and Delina Exclusif to be masterpieces. They’ve been duped and over duped 😂 Especially BR540 but I always recall the first time smelling them and thinking how unique they were back then. 😍❤️
Boy do I agree about the Aura EDP. I am continuously regretting buying the EDT instead. I might get the EDP at this point and give the EDT to my kind. :)
For me the only "masterpiece" in my small collection is Shanghai lily. It's warm, incensy, slightly floral, glorious. Perfect for gloomy fall and winter. It just sends me to a very specific imagery. I love it! And I remember you saying duas dupe was no good, which made me so sad. I almost avoid wearing my Shanghai lily cuz I want to keep it forever

You nailed it, L’Autre Oud is a masterpiece. I’m weary of cypriol but I took a chance b/c it was on sale at Lancome. So glad I did. It is pure class, elegance and opulence.
Shalimar and Habit Rouge my mom always wore and I feel like they qualify as masterpieces. A masterpiece isn't always something I can wear personally, for instance, Fracas, #5, Samsara, Opium, BR540, Alien, Poison...but I respect all of these creations being that all of them were groundbreaking in some way! Unique scent profiles, no cheap synthetics, beautiful projections. If I had to determine masterpieces just within my own collection, I think they would be Escentric Molecule 01, Vermeire Bombay Bling, TF Black Orchid, TF Shanghai Lily, Aesop Marrakech Intense, Diptyque Volutes Edp, LeLabo Rose 31, Le Labo Santal 33.
Hi Julia, that is quite a list of masterpieces you have noted. I agree that "masterpiece" and "wearable" are not, and don't have to be, the same. Love "groundbreaking" as a criterion to make the category. 👍👍👍
I love that I own so many of the fragrances that made your masterpieces list (Terracotta Le Parfum, Prescriptives Calyx, Dior Addict, Amarige, Fracas, Dune, Soleil Blanc)! And the ones I don’t own are probably because I haven’t smelled them (yet). That must mean your criteria has some validity (just kidding, LOL). The only qualification I have is that there are probably some fragrances that you’ve dismissed because they are ubiquitous now, but only because they were so revolutionary in their day that they started a whole fragrance trend. Examples of that might be Angel, which started the gourmand phenomenon and Coco Mademoiselle which could be the first fruitchouli. I don’t personally wear either Angel or Coco Mademoiselle, but I believe they are both masterpieces. Opium and Poison might also qualify. And I agree with Richard...you are a masterpiece!

I have Terracotta and love it! The dry down smells just like a suntan cream from the 80’s and 90’s called Bain de Soleil. It was an orange colored jelly cream and smelled heavenly! 🙂

Hi Veronica! Very classy list. Fracas is 1000% a masterpiece. The queen of white flowers. Germaine Cellier was an astounding woman. I will always have a bottle of Fracas. Even though I personally cannot wear it, Bandit is also a masterpiece perfume. Very ahead of its time.

My masterpiece fragrance was Dior Midnight Poison. I never understood why that one, out of all the flankers, got discontinued.
More recent scents I have smelled are BDK Gris Charnel and Atelier Materi Cacao Porcelana - I find those both to be masterpieces and I can't wait to own them both 🖤

Wow, how interesting. I have L'Autre Oud in the original bottle but was disappointed with it not living up to the praise for me. I guess I'll have to see if I can learn to understand it better?! Some wonderful frags on your list, Veronica 👍 2002 Dior Addict is also a stunner. I personally find it hard to label frags as 'masterpieces' bc almost nothing is new or unique anymore, so very few really stand out to that degree. But even if not totally unique, some frags do deserve such recognition, and there's two that I class as masterpieces. They've lasted through the decades and are still relevant and are still so incredibly amazing, and they are the OG Dior Poison - one of the best tuberose fragrances (or just best fragrances) ever created imo, and Joop! Femme. What an outstanding fragrance - there's nothing else like it. I have a vintage bottle of Joop! and it's unreal - I adore it! Also agree on Fracas (TorD is close but not the same). As for artistic, 'non mainstream' fragrances, from my collection is Bis by Rodin Olio Russo. I love it (successful blind buy) but it's very much an acquired taste. Great quality and unique, and it smells amazing to me, so I guess I'd sweep that into the masterpiece category as well. 😍👍 PS just reading some of the comments below mine and I have to agree that OG Opium would also fit into the masterpiece category for it's bravado when it was created, such a wow fragrance of its time, and is still not only relevant, but in production today, albeit reformulated. Shame the original formula has been castrated but c'est la vie. Sign of the times.

Hello Veronica, another great video...thank you. Dune is timeless, and just like Dior Poison the OG very intimidating and require courage to rock them.. To me it is oceanic, hot sand, floral, sensual...if the line where the sky meets sand and ocean has a scent it would be Dune. Although Dune has no lavender I still get the vibes of Mon Guerlain Intense.

Agree, Dior Addict does smell like a rich woman. I have memories of being around rich women at different times and places and the fragrances they wore brings that association when I smell certain scents. One of them is Dior Addict and of course Chanel No 5.

What a terrific video Veronica! I haven't smelled most of those so can't comment to them but my selection would be Olympic Orchids SonnetXVII. I have loved this for years and always thought it was genius, not like anything I have smelled before or since - it's definitely not for everyone though. It has orchid but also a very prominent stables/barnyard/earthy scent that is nostalgic for me and very intoxicating. It's definitely odd and animalic but is also quite pretty.

Hi Veronica. On your recommendation I picked up Haramain Amber Oud at a great price Memorial Day sale. I wore it to my son's wedding last week. Very elegant. It gave me a Euphoria vibe, but more subtle.
I would love to try Oak in Oak. Scents of Wood doesn't list it in its very pricy sample sets. I got a small bottle of Ebony in Oak and am truly loving that as an everyday woody fragrance.
Also loving a sample of Xerjoff Lira.
I'm planning on ordering a Kolotinis sample box with Coffee Addict. Very reasonable price and you can customize the box.

I have a growing list of fragrances but I have top 10 that I think are masterpieces: pure gold, gold flowers, LDBS, Rose D'Arabie/Rose Omeyyade (they smell somewhat the same 😄), coco vanille, star musk, bal d'afrique and Golden Gai. Yes, LDBS have many dupes but when I first smelled it 5 years ago I was shook 😄.

Such a hard topic and as you stated, it's hard to decipher from classifying as a "masterpiece" to I really love it. Also, does one consider just scent and originality or include performance, sillage, projection, longevity etc. Must it check all the boxes?!?!? I can honestly find masterpieces in each house. From the CH Confidential line, Platinum Leather is masterful indeed. It is how leather should be done and it is engulfed in the most wonderful white flowers. It is heaven and dare I say my favorite of the line *gasp*. Most I will mention will forever be in my collection because they are simply the best IMO in their genre and superb compositions:

I find BR540 and Delina Exclusif to be masterpieces. They’ve been duped and over duped 😂 Especially BR540 but I always recall the first time smelling them and thinking how unique they were back then. 😍❤️

For me the only "masterpiece" in my small collection is Shanghai lily. It's warm, incensy, slightly floral, glorious. Perfect for gloomy fall and winter. It just sends me to a very specific imagery. I love it! And I remember you saying duas dupe was no good, which made me so sad. I almost avoid wearing my Shanghai lily cuz I want to keep it forever

Shalimar and Habit Rouge my mom always wore and I feel like they qualify as masterpieces. A masterpiece isn't always something I can wear personally, for instance, Fracas, #5, Samsara, Opium, BR540, Alien, Poison...but I respect all of these creations being that all of them were groundbreaking in some way! Unique scent profiles, no cheap synthetics, beautiful projections. If I had to determine masterpieces just within my own collection, I think they would be Escentric Molecule 01, Vermeire Bombay Bling, TF Black Orchid, TF Shanghai Lily, Aesop Marrakech Intense, Diptyque Volutes Edp, LeLabo Rose 31, Le Labo Santal 33.
Hi Julia, that is quite a list of masterpieces you have noted. I agree that "masterpiece" and "wearable" are not, and don't have to be, the same. Love "groundbreaking" as a criterion to make the category. 👍👍👍
I love that I own so many of the fragrances that made your masterpieces list (Terracotta Le Parfum, Prescriptives Calyx, Dior Addict, Amarige, Fracas, Dune, Soleil Blanc)! And the ones I don’t own are probably because I haven’t smelled them (yet). That must mean your criteria has some validity (just kidding, LOL). The only qualification I have is that there are probably some fragrances that you’ve dismissed because they are ubiquitous now, but only because they were so revolutionary in their day that they started a whole fragrance trend. Examples of that might be Angel, which started the gourmand phenomenon and Coco Mademoiselle which could be the first fruitchouli. I don’t personally wear either Angel or Coco Mademoiselle, but I believe they are both masterpieces. Opium and Poison might also qualify. And I agree with Richard...you are a masterpiece!

Fragrances that I think are a masterpiece? Rouge Malachite by Armani Prive, Gris Dior by Dior Prive & BR 540 (sorry but yes I do!) oh & the Carolina Herrera line is incredible I have two of them and I think Sandal Ruby is darn close to being a masterpiece too! Saffron Lazuli sounds amazing tho! 💙
