  • I visit the SVR's Station at Kidderminster in Worcestershire to have a look at the SVR's 1940s weekend. I take images of the station and trains coming and going, as well as the classic cars and military vehicles.

Oh how lovely! Those beautiful locos and toplight carriages! After the bluebell railway, that is my second favourite railway! Thanks for that Paul!

      Thank you Michael!
There was a super atmosphere here on Sunday last - great to see everyone had got behind the spirit of it.
I will, of course, return to the Severn Valley Railway in the not too distant future.
      Take care,
      Paul

Wonderful trip down nostalgia lane. I love the sights and sounds of the 40s especially the big bands. I have always been drawn to that era. The military display was very pleasing. I Had a relative who was a crewmember on a Sherman Tank with the U.S. Army in WWII. Great job Paul.Thank you.👍

It really was a very well organised and supported event.
Oh, wow - I bet your tank crewmember had some tales to tell.
      Glad you enjoyed it.

Good Morning Paul - greetings from Poland
1940s nostalgia at its very best. Big Band sounds, UXB in the station, tanks, cars and people. Superb video old friend

      Good morning Michael!
Thank you - I really enjoyed my couple of hours here (I went on to film a canal series on nearby).
It was such a splendid atmosphere here.
Hope all is good with you.

Hi Paul, this looked fun and very well supported too. Some really well cared for vehicles on display. I particularly liked the bus I think because of its graceful lines. Very well captured, well done!!
    All the best!!

Thank you! It was a fab day! Wonderful atmosphere - I would like to do a fuller explore of it next year - well supported event, and all of the SVR's stations look immaculate, with lots of 'hidden' detail.
This event was very well put together.
Hope all is good with you David.
      Take care,

Thank you Cathy - yes, those classic cars were wondeful!
That is quite a rare sight to see a tank zooming around the front of a railway station! It was amazing.
      Thanks for watching.
      Take care,
      Paul

Really nice video! Loved the music! Really interesting to see all the military vehicles and buses. It was like being transported back to a time that I never lived in. Lovely steam footage too! Thank you!

      Thank you Louise!
It was such a fun event, although I didn't visit it all properly, as I went on to make another longer canal video nearby later that day. Maybe next year.
It was exceptionally well put together - I think that they have a similar one on the West Somerset Railway too (just checked - yes they do! Iti s on the weekend of the 14th & 15th Sept this year).
There were live bands and singers doing 1940s music, but, obviously I couldn't include that for copyright reasons, and had to find my own copyright free music to use in the video.
      Glad you enjoyed it too!
      Paul

These themed weekends are becoming more popular, probably more so next year with the 80th anniversary of the ending of WW2.

      Thanks Alice,
yes, this was a really popular event. I think you are right - there will be many more of these events next year. Good to see so many people get into the spirit of it as well. It was a lot of fun, despite it being a time of hardship and loss for many.
      Take care,
      Paul

You captured the flavour of the weekend!
I do watch the WSR 40’s event! The music (usually live singers a la Anne Shelton Vera Lynn etc) are captured ‘live’ - don’t think it breaks copyright rules but I’m not sure re things like that! Everybody gets into ‘the mood’ & it’s always so friendly!
I do admire how enthusiastic the contributors are - brilliantly costumed!
I like the UXB touch haha & did I spot a Captain Mainwaring lookalike standing there?
    Thanks Paul!

    • @westcountrywanderings

Thank you Diana - it was a super event with a great atmosphere.
Yes, you can sometimes get away with those sorts of music - but the trouble is you have no way of knowing in advance if RUclips will pass it, or not!
As well as Captain Mainwaring, they also had Laurel & Hardy and many other characters.
      Thanks again,
      Take care,
      Paul
