Behind the scenes: preparing a locomotive for an important exam on the Severn Valley Railway

- No SATs, GCSEs or A levels for our locomotives, but they’ve still got to go through their paces on a regular basis to make sure they’re in good, safe working order. At our Bridgnorth motive power department, it’s that time of year again, and many of our steam locos are being prepped for their annual boiler exams. Getting them ready is a painstaking and at times a dirty old business, as you’re about to discover in our film. But it’s all part of what it takes to keep heritage steam engines in the pink. Join Will Marsh, Gary Williams and Steve Llewelyn for a tour around 1501, where they’re reaching parts you wouldn’t normally get a chance to see.

I think his idea of showing what goes on behind the scenes is a total winner as before I started volunteering I had no idea of what was required to ensure the railway can run. Lets have more !!!!!
More videos coming soon - don't forget to subscribe
Love this, the video & production quality is excellent, no idea how you managed to achieve this in such a dark location. I could watch this all day. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! Don't forget to subscribe
A good demonstration , great video 👍🇬🇧
The SVR is professional in everything it does, including promotion and information. An excellent presentation by vitally important backroom guys who deserve their moment in the sun. Great stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it Phil!
Great to know that you guys are keeping the railway going!!!
Preparing for when we can reopen again - we can't wait.

Nice to see the locomotives are still being worked on over the lockdown period
It's a vital part of the Severn Valley Railway and to ensure that the steam engines are ready for action when we need them
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial I just hope I can get back to Bewdley to my volunteering at the Carriage and wagon department there.
Another great video. Can we have a look in bridgenorth MPD a little more often? Great railway and we will get through this tough time together.
Plenty more videos planned - don't forget to subscribe to be the first to see our videos.

Ex military instructor? He is good. Confident that he would hold the attention of any future members of the maintenance gang. Well done indeed.
So glad you enjoyed the video, Bob!
It's Wiiiiiiiiiill and Gazzer !

When will other engines in the MPD be restored and back running as I noticed 82045 in the top right at the start of the video and I know 4930 Hagley Hall is coming along nicely how is she getting on
Have you watched our video about Hagley Hall here? ruclips.net/video/fd7R9f3ZDwE/видео.html

@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial I Love how you guys take care and pride at keeping the Rolling stock and the Locomotives Polished and greased and Well looked after and it is very interesting to know how much effort you guys put into keeping the Railway up and running. Cheers Lewis :).
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial I have seen the Video about how you guys dealt with the Vandalism and I am appalled I am Not happy apart from working at the Severn Valley I also want to be a security guard so to all those vandals out there if I were you I would think twice about Vandalising the Severn Valley and you can try to run but I will catch you and you can hide but I will find you and you will be taken to the Police station and the Severn Valley Railway don't need to be Dealing with the Vandalised Heritage Locomotives and rolling stock
The Severn Valley Railway is a tourist attraction for young children and Railway enthusiasts to come and enjoy The Great days out and To Look at the Iconic Heritage Locomotives and all the Times I have been on the Severn Valley Railway I have enjoyed every minute of It no matter what the weather is like and if it Weren't for my Grandfather who lives in Felixstowe Suffolk I would not be Interested in Locomotives so I want to thank him and if I could See him right now I would give him a Big hug but until this COVID Lockdown has settled I will have to Imagine that I am Hugging him
@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficial I hope you guys are well and staying safe and I can't wait to work for you guys
I have ried that locomotive at severn vally railaway

@@SevernValleyRailwayOfficialwould it be possible for me to become an engine driver when I volunteer
But SVR spring steam Gala was cancelled or postponed since April last year.
We're preparing for our Spring Steam Up, William. Tickets on sale now!
Hi my name is Lewis and I'm 16 years old and I love steam engines even though I was born in the 2000s but that doesn't stop me from Loving steam engines and I would like to be an engine driver on the Severn Valley Railway and soon I'm going to Agricultural college and then I'm going to study mechanics at university and I would like to get an apprenticeship at the Severn Valley Railway
Great we need more younger people to volunteer to keep the railway going. I don't volunteer with the locomotive department but I volunteer on another important part of the railway which is the Bewdley carriage and wagon department. There are loads of different roles available on the railway.
