- You may have heard of cooking bacon & eggs on the shovel, or maybe even jacket potatoes in the smokebox. So for this year's Heritage Open Day's special we have challenged ourselves to cook something we have never tried before! Join us on this potentially ambitious challenge and find out a little more about the line along the way!

Ahh yes, this is what I’d do when my locomotive is built! I cook for a lot of my time so I mean my 2 favourite hobbies merged together! Nice 😎
A footplate crew on the Avon Valley Railway were regularly cooking a full Christmas dinner in the smokebox of a loco during the Santa Specials some twenty years ago.
Ben was standing there like, i'm hungry. Lol.
Well done Clement Freud..!! ;-)
I really admire the people of the past, i wouldn't imagine anyone in modern day building a railway over months and months of hard work and not be paid, and doing it purely just for the passion. So a MASSIVE THANK YOU to any volunteers on this railway, any other railway and any volunteers in general. 👍 Great job as always Will it was pure entertainment, I'll be waiting for you to appear on Gordon Ramsey's tik tok very soon 🤣🤣
The Watercress Line is so much more than just steam trains, I've just spent a most enjoyable day on the line, it was great to meet so many of the people who make this railway the success that it is today. Thanks to everyone at the Watercress Line for a great day out.
This is fantastic - you are going to start a new cooking trend!!
Need to make this a series
Here's an idea for the next smokebox cooking idea: bread pudding!
Oooo now that I like the sound of!
A very nicely put together and presented film. I must get down to visit your lovely railway. And lovely food too.
Hi. Great video, enjoyed. 👍👍Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Martin
My brothers a chef and also a big railway enthusiast. We cooked steak and Stilton cobs on the footplate of black 5 45428 at the nymr . It was the best cooked steak I have ever had .
Lovely day, great time filming, thanks for including the cameo at the end 😂
Brilliant, well done, good fun
fantastic video
Looks like Will was pretty chuffed with the outcome!
I reckon you'd give Jamie Oliver a run for his money, nice one Will!
Ben. Takes one bite. Nods politely. And walks away. I hope he's out of intensive care now.
You'll be pleased to know he did survive and came back for seconds 😅
I would love to go but I live over seas so that’s a problem
Maybe they should cook Sam's signature Modelrailwayman's Broth.
it would be nice if they tried cooking watercress soup
I think this is better than Gordon Ramsey’s cooking lol
I Live Near the Severn Valley Railway which is a 16 mile long Heritage line which goes from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth which is in Shropshire
ok
Why am I watching this ?
My money is either on the RUclips algorithm thinking that the best thing in the world right now is seeing some delicious cooked on a steam engine. Or boredom, but hopefully it was entertaining nonetheless!
