Perfect timing for me! Thank you for this video! I'm just getting to the point of assembling all the pieces to make a mini backpack. I will add your false bottom to it. This will be my first false bottom, and my first mini backpack.
Great video! I also use false bottoms in my bags. You can find the corrugated plastic boards at Lowe's Home Improvement stores too. Usually I use glue to permanently secure the false bottom to the bags. Thanks! Keep up the beautiful work!
I used plastic canvas to make a false bottom for my Chickadee Backpack. I inserted it in between the body of the bag and the lining and cut it to fit nice and snug.
I've made oodles of false bottoms. I actually had a plastic corrugated sheet I purchased years ago to place between the springs and mattress of my hide-a-bed and kept it when we got rid of my couch. I used the corrugated plastic in the bottom of pet carriers I've made and sold. I used 2 pieces for added support, taped them together and just covered it with foam, fleece and matching minky/fabric.for a firm and stable comfortable pillow like bottom. It works great!!
I did it once out of a cardboard, I took it off every time I washed the bag, but I didn’t know that is a false bottom. I also used a plastic canvas (the one that is use to cross stitch with wool yarn), I cut it to the measurement of the bag but was not sturdy, I sew two together with wool yarn, then covered it with the fabric… it worked well, but not enough sturdy for long time because it was a big bag. Now I know the name and what to use, thanks, Sara!
I use the foam board, but instead of sewing the edges shut I extend the open end by an inch or two so it folds underneath. This way I can remove the foam easily for washing the cover or change the piece of foam board.
I made the Sheffield tool bag and it has a false bottom. I was looking around my house for what on earth I could use to insert in the false bottom! Fortunately we had recently gotten a case of huggies wipes. The box they come in is really sturdy, THICK cardboard! It worked beautifully! I hope it will last! 😊
When I've used this corrugated plastic I snipped the corners to somewhat give them a round-ish corner to take the sharp ends off and just placed some painters tape around the edges to soften the blunt cut edge, then covered with desired materials for the project I was making.

I have never made a false bottom but I love the idea. I will definitely be trying this. Thank you so much!
I have but used peltex which isn’t quite as stiff as your corrugated plastic Excited about trying this method

Thank you! Perfect timing, too. I was going to make one up with decovil heavy. I will do this instead! 😊
No, but in the future I will! Thank you for the tutorial and for the info on the corrugated plastic!
I have done this, but never heard it called by this name. Interesting to use materials that can remain in place for washing.
I have used plastic canvas, but this is a good idea also. You could also add a Velcro tab.
Yes, I usually use the same rawhide I use for my shoe soles.
I love that you can add this to any bag even after it's made.
I'm curious if the edges of the plastic will wear through the fabric cover over time.

No, but I just made a lunchbox that could use a false bottom. Thank you! You Rock!
Yes,but I just used a couple of layers of really heavy interfacing - the kind used on curtain pelmets etc
Please let me know what you used to cut the Fome-Cor Pro board. Thank you!
Where did you get your corrugated plastic? I have made a false bottom with a double layer of peltex.
I used to do this a long time ago...like maybe 10 yrs ago...not so much recently...I made a lot of tote bags then
No never made one before but a good idea
No I haven’t made a false bottom before but I will be making one soon
No but this video is popping up at the right time cause I've been considering them.
